- inactive, on 11/28/2007, -5/+233Dugg for being informative instead of just using it as a reason to bash Vista like most the articles about SP3
- racketboy, on 11/28/2007, -4/+160I have a feeling that I'll be sticking with XP for quite a while.
With an increasing amount of my experience coming from the web and apps, my main concern with an OS is stability, convenience, and speed.
(And I already own it, so Linux or Mac OS doesn't give me any advantages in my mind) - PhonicUK, on 11/28/2007, -36/+157Windows Vista is the new Windows Millenium Edition
- manfrin, on 11/28/2007, -5/+118I'm glad to see all the current big OS varietals are getting much, much better. Ubuntu and the new Fedora are great, OS10.5 is great, XP is getting SP3, a big, wonderful update, and Vista is strongly coming in to its own.
It's a good time to be a computer user. - ricodued, on 11/28/2007, -8/+106What do you think Microsoft is, Apple?
*ducks* - xJudahx, on 11/28/2007, -3/+64Wait, no bias in your post, no linux fan-boydom, no linux bashing. Are you sure you should be on digg? Being reasonable is not welcome here.
That being said, I'm happy with my linux box, and I do boot into XP on occasion, when it's neccessary (I do hold a corporate programming job).
Dugg for not being a digg user clone. - scabbers, on 11/28/2007, -6/+65I'm making people Happy! I'm the magical man, from Happy Land, who lives in a gumdrop house on Lollypop Lane!
- BluesFan, on 11/28/2007, -3/+51How about DX10 coming with SP3!....I did pay $200.00 for xp,don't forget that Bill.
- sjbdallas, on 11/28/2007, -11/+55Wow, i didn't know Microsoft had a new OS coming out to replace Vista!
- EXreaction, on 11/28/2007, -2/+4510% faster performance for Microsoft Office? That means everything should be 10% faster right? Should we test anything else out?
NO TIME, ALERT MEDIA!!!! - Skanadian, on 11/28/2007, -2/+42They're going to change the default theme to red. Everyone knows red is faster.
- manitoba98xp, on 11/28/2007, -0/+34They should give it a knife. Everyone knows you run faster with a knife.
- FlyCO, on 11/28/2007, -11/+44Stop bashing ME!
http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/2300/memi2.jpg - joehobbes, on 11/28/2007, -1/+31I think his point was that why go through the hassle of changing OSs if XP is working well for him.
- andregriffin, on 11/28/2007, -0/+28"You never know what the *****' rope is for, you just always end up needing it."
- GeneralFailure0, on 11/28/2007, -0/+27That was scary.
- pinesol101, on 11/28/2007, -2/+29So I guess we're going to expect XP sales to spike up even more and Vista even more down.
- neomis, on 11/28/2007, -0/+25Looks like they weren't on the Ballmer Peak when they made vista http://xkcd.com/323/
- tempusrob, on 11/28/2007, -2/+27Because after 6 years of patches, it's almost decent now.
- inactive, on 11/28/2007, -4/+27vista sucks *bash bash bash*
- darkhero, on 11/28/2007, -1/+22I have been using SP3 for a month now and it is a lot faster and less buggy. It boots up 5 seconds faster.
- greenlight2001, on 11/28/2007, -0/+21Thanks for apologizing though. That means a lot.
- xpose, on 11/28/2007, -7/+28What happen to everyone saying XP is an insecure OS? I guess no one cares now and just want a fast OS after all.
- mrogi, on 11/28/2007, -5/+24If Microsoft wants to capture more Vista customers...they need 20 feet of rope and a gun.
- yayaja67, on 11/28/2007, -3/+22This is great news! i was just playing with the thought of downgrading (a misnomer in this case) back to XP. This definitely seals the deal.
- curtosrules, on 11/28/2007, -4/+21about damn time, they should have focused on this instead of releasing VISTA!!
- inactive, on 11/28/2007, -7/+24Oh ya? Like what.
- inactive, on 11/28/2007, -2/+19Actually, it is supposed to increase the speed of certain things, like transferring files for instance.
- inactive, on 11/28/2007, -2/+18If Microsoft does nothing but mimic another company, and then have twice the market cap of that company, I would call that genius.
- renegadeafk, on 11/28/2007, -5/+21Aero glass makes absolutely no speed difference here. If you have an alright card it should be just as fast.Hell I've run it fine on an x200 and an FX5200.
- bariswheel, on 11/28/2007, -4/+20Windows Vista, today's Windows ME
- GruntboyX, on 11/28/2007, -3/+16Informative article...I am kinda anxious to see how this whole Service Pack situation pans out.
I wonder how much faster Vista would be if you could just strip the desktop search and DRM out. - bluenash, on 11/28/2007, -0/+12patch all those half seconds and quarter seconds together and i can save twenty seconds every day...sweet!
- RickyBennett, on 11/28/2007, -0/+10whats the 20 feet of rope for ??
- D3koy, on 11/28/2007, -2/+11I just convinced my mom to get a new PC (which unfortunately has Vista) and now she won't take any of my computer advice...Microsoft is straining my relationship with my parents! Maybe they will offer this "upgrade" for free to all Vista users?
- renegadeafk, on 11/28/2007, -10/+18I have used vista and ME anyone who compares the two is a fool that has probably used neither.
- zmjone2992, on 11/28/2007, -1/+9it will be vista then. more or less anyhow
- fr34k5h0w, on 11/28/2007, -0/+8Well let's see. The small intestine is about 20 feet long too. Coincidence? I think not.
- Jeffler, on 11/28/2007, -8/+15Or that XP is the best version of windows and arguably the best all-around OS in history?
- bigsteve, on 11/28/2007, -4/+11His time is not. And in that, a migration of one's "digital life" to Linux can be quite costly.
- inactive, on 11/28/2007, -0/+7Instead of supposing that it's some kind of magical voodoo in Service Pack 3 that makes XP faster once it's installed, seems like it would be more productive to figure out which updates from the Service Pack cause the performance increase and just install those.
- G33k0ft3chz, on 11/28/2007, -1/+8You can make monthly payments on them, and it is not only for businesses.
- GuacamoleSan, on 11/28/2007, -0/+6says random dude's step kid
- Cl1mh4224rd, on 11/28/2007, -0/+6I get that effect after installing the latest drivers for my video card. For some reason, the screen just *looks* better immediately after installing them.
I've come to attribute that to the fact that I'm always looking at glorious 800x600 for a few minutes before resetting the resolution back to 1280x1024. - UtopiaInTheSky, on 11/28/2007, -4/+10In all honesty, that "smoother" performance is probably in your head.
- inactive, on 11/28/2007, -1/+7You can probably say that, though sales say otherrwise.
- iNoles, on 11/28/2007, -2/+8Could be it got "placebo" effects?
- marcoiks, on 11/28/2007, -1/+7My biggest concern with all of this is that even though Core 2 Duo technology and AMD 64 bit processors are becoming the norm 64 bit OS's aren't getting the support they need. Here is a question to all of you, How are all of you with more than 4GB or RAM dealing with this issue?
- mugicha, on 11/28/2007, -1/+7Dude, you're so just making those numbers up. 20 to 25%? So you wouldn't notice 10%, but the 5% difference between 20 and 25 is somehow relevant?
