Vista 64bit = awsome, better than XP by a country mile, just give it till sp2 and XP is bye bye- amirman, on 04/06/2008, -1/+9will the service pack install because sp1 refuses to install on my wife's laptop.
- Psythik, on 04/06/2008, -3/+8And that's why you check the specs on your own, instead of listening to the "Vista Capable" sticker.
- amirman, on 04/07/2008, -0/+1it's got 2 Gigs ram and a 2.2ghz dual core processor what else does it need to run vista?
- Psythik, on 04/07/2008, -1/+1How 'bout a half-decent graphics card?
- amirman, on 04/07/2008, -0/+1maybe if microsoft didn't illegally lower the standards of their "vista capable" distinction just to help manufacturers like Dell sell more PCs then i wouldn't have been sold a defective product that refuses to update itself. the graphics card is the ATI radeon Xpress 1150. also by the way indexing is broken. it's a pretty well documented bug that microsoft has yet to even comment on even though microsoft's tech support forums are bursting with complaints about it.
- Psythik, on 04/08/2008, -0/+1That card is a piece of crap. It's integrated, for cryin' out loud; you should have known better.
- Psythik, on 04/06/2008, -3/+8And that's why you check the specs on your own, instead of listening to the "Vista Capable" sticker.
- Sibre, on 04/06/2008, -3/+5Go away Bill
- amirman, on 04/06/2008, -1/+9will the service pack install because sp1 refuses to install on my wife's laptop.
- chodges4, on 04/06/2008, -20/+41Why are you digging him down? I have vista and it is terrible. The service pack didn't even fix anything. It still takes way too long to start up and shut down...and I spend half of my time on my computer waiting for programs to start or end, not to mention all the times I'm in the middle of something and my whole computer freezes for three and a half minutes. And no I don't have any viruses...it's Vista.
- KibibyteBrain, on 04/06/2008, -0/+13Actually, my Vista install was working pretty decently until I installed SP1 and it broke Aero hopelessly(composer crashing) and several other functions. Before it was pretty much just XP + eyecandy + a more modern interface/features + slower network service performance, which was pretty ok. I'm pretty sure nVidia is partially to blame for my problems, but a service pack shouldn't do that.
- Lanlost, on 04/06/2008, -5/+2Yeah.. I have an on/off liking for Vista. I really liked XP with Sp2... overall it worked out better for me than any linux distro or OSX for everyday usage. Note: I have a MacBook, and two desktops.. one with Vista and one with LinuxMint.
My problem with Vista for the run through was completely nvidias fault. I had a great graphics card that my friend broke and so he gave me out of date, but still better than nothing FX 5200. I installed Vista and the FX 5200 worked fine for Aero. Everything worked great until I went to YouTube. One video would work fine but as soon as I would have more than a few tabs open and a single YouTube, or GOD FORBID more than one YouTube window open, my whole computer would bog down to nothingness. I know this is nVidias fault because the 5200 isn't supported in their newest drivers even though they say its completely Vista compatible and that they will continue to support it. Support my ass, they haven't updated the driver since July of '06. Yes, this was a RC1 era driver.
This card works great with Linux and Compiz, works great with XP. Works great with Vista for non-Youtube *****. I suppose this could be a flash plugin problem and thus Adobe but since I can load 10 YouTube tabs in either XP or Linux I blame it on nVidia.
I'm using a ***** ATI card thats Dx9 and it works fine with Vista. Problem solved right? Well now I installed SP1 and Vista itself runs better but now I have a way more annoying problem. If I right click on a YouTube video I get the right-click menu for it AND the right-click menu as if I had clicked anywhere else on the page both at the same time. Not only that but they BOTH lock up until I click off the window. I can't select anything. This means if I DO need to change the video quality I can't ***** do it unless I'm really lucky. Ugh.
Besides YouTube, Vista runs great for me. It's just a pity.- DPyro, on 04/06/2008, -0/+4I once tried to open 10 digg tabs on Firefox but then it crashed so I think it's nvidia's fault
- JEWestbrookJR, on 04/06/2008, -0/+2You had me until "better than linux or os x". Especially since you're using linuxmint, that distro is a ***** joke.
- TRENT310, on 04/06/2008, -0/+3GeForce FX5200? I get those on sale for $5 at Office Depot and then use it for nothing other than the fact that it has DVI out so I can run my LCD screens. It's not a great graphics card, better than onboard graphics but it won't run Aero properly if you have OTHER GPU-loading things running at the same time. Compiz is much less GPU intensive.
Just buy a new video card. $60 will get you something that will run everything just fine. I would stick with nVidia because of proper Linux support in case you need it.
- Sibre, on 04/06/2008, -0/+4Yes, problems on youtube and bugs in a browser is DEFINITELY the video card's fault.
Note to self: make sure to check if youtube is utilizing hardware acceleration on my videos...
- callmejordy265, on 04/06/2008, -4/+3I have a mediocre laptop with only a gig of ram on it, and I have no problems at all. I think you are just impatient.
- chodges4, on 04/06/2008, -1/+2Well then apparently so is everyone else who uses my computer and asks how i can live with it.
- DragonForce4, on 04/06/2008, -2/+3Nope, its just your computer.

- cap11235, on 04/05/2008, -10/+2C# uses "import", not include.
- Diaruemnus, on 04/05/2008, -0/+11Actually, C# uses using, if I understand the syntax correctly. I could be wrong, of course, being fairly new to programming.
- miriv365, on 04/05/2008, -1/+3Imports is VB.NET

- quarkie, on 04/06/2008, -2/+1Java has a macro preprocessor?
edit: pointed out in the next thread. - callmejordy265, on 04/06/2008, -3/+1hmm, what is the Printf relating to then? Java uses println and print.
- ha1f, on 04/06/2008, -0/+4uh, actually, Java has printf with PrintStream...
- LordVengeance, on 04/06/2008, -1/+1It's not Java, it's Haha. It's a freakin' joke, guys. Overanalyzing a bit, are we?
- Soave, on 04/06/2008, -0/+4LordVengeance, it's clearly Java syntax.
- LordVengeance, on 04/06/2008, -0/+0Uh, you missed the point. It's not supposed to be valid anything. It was an attempt at humor.
- quarkie, on 04/06/2008, -2/+1Java has a macro preprocessor?
- quarkie, on 04/06/2008, -0/+1I was looking at the ***** named variables.
- ruddy, on 04/05/2008, -48/+1too bad it's C :(
- merbot, on 04/05/2008, -3/+50When did C become OOP
- iplen, on 04/05/2008, -8/+5you can sort of OOP in C... not really OOP more like semi-OOP since you cant extend or implement like Java, but basic function functionality is possible.
- ruddy, on 04/06/2008, -0/+2When did C become OOP?
Read the next chapter in C for dummies, theres this little thing called structures. OOP isn't OO design :(
- merbot, on 04/05/2008, -3/+50When did C become OOP
- ha1f, on 04/05/2008, -15/+10You're an idiot, and who ever is digging or dugg you is an idiot.
- merbot, on 04/05/2008, -26/+3It's java. extend is equal to c++ : for class inheritance.
- ha1f, on 04/05/2008, -1/+32This is not Java. It's some kind of bastardization...
- thcobbs, on 04/05/2008, -2/+15No, its called a ***** JOKE.

- thcobbs, on 04/05/2008, -2/+15No, its called a ***** JOKE.
- andycr512, on 04/05/2008, -2/+18If it's Java, why is it using #include? It can't be, and it's no language I've ever seen.
- strictnein, on 04/05/2008, -0/+2But you just saw it. What a quandary.
- ha1f, on 04/05/2008, -1/+32This is not Java. It's some kind of bastardization...
- GodsDragon, on 04/05/2008, -0/+33tiz be the bastard child of C++, Java and vista puns.

- ligyron, on 04/05/2008, -9/+5Could somebody translate this picture (what I assume is a joke) into non-geek?
- Klarth, on 04/05/2008, -1/+21If you're not a geek you should have no reason to want to enjoy this. Give up.
- RainDrizzleFog, on 04/05/2008, -0/+5It's saying Vista sucks in a clever way. I'm not a programmer and I figured it out.
- nreynolds, on 04/05/2008, -1/+4anyways, the VOID main method RETURNS more money... so... it's not even code...
edit: someone pointed it out lower down...- gamr343, on 04/05/2008, -2/+1AND not all control paths return something. It's just bad programming all the way around, lol
- djbon2112, on 04/05/2008, -1/+1Unless BSOD() terminates the application (I'd assume so). Though I don't know if this bastard language would check for that ;)
- andycr512, on 04/06/2008, -1/+1Except that it's a void, so it shouldn't return anything at -any- control path...
- trogdor282, on 04/05/2008, -2/+2You can return LotsMoreMoney as long as it's of type void.
- Akaji, on 04/05/2008, -2/+1Right, so no.
- gamr343, on 04/05/2008, -2/+1AND not all control paths return something. It's just bad programming all the way around, lol
- thisissami, on 04/05/2008, -2/+5isn't this java?
- ha1f, on 04/05/2008, -1/+8its nothing. literally.
- Cenobite, on 04/05/2008, -2/+7It's *****.
- edzilla, on 04/05/2008, -3/+3the name was already taken, so they went for "vista"
- CrushThemTorg, on 04/06/2008, -2/+1I wish I could Digg you up more, Cenobite.
- Bytesage, on 04/06/2008, -1/+1It might be written in *****, but I don't think MS programmers can implement that properly, since they don't seem to even understand their own file formats.
- m0tbaillie, on 04/05/2008, -1/+8It's a bastardization of C and Java syntax. It is not one single language. printf() comes from C, extends/implements comes from Java (originally).
- khellendros1984, on 04/06/2008, -1/+2Exactly. It's a joke....stop trying to analyze it, and just take it as funny. Next we're going to get people complaining that it won't compile....
- muzy, on 04/06/2008, -9/+2its Java, I am a Java expert and Yes its Java.
- khellendros1984, on 04/06/2008, -0/+8You fail as a Java expert. printf is only accessible through PrintStream, and Java doesn't use include. It uses import. Various variables and functions are declared outside of classes, which is allowed in C/C++, but not in Java. There are also reasons that it's not really C++ either, but I'm sure that doesn't matter to a java expert =p
- Jalh, on 04/06/2008, -0/+3people dont get the actual joke. more explicit 8===D
- Philluminati, on 04/11/2008, -0/+1It's an understandable mistake. C and C++ are the only languages I know of that use a preprocessor and understand #include directives.
- ninja0, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1It looks like C to me.
- Anpheus, on 04/05/2008, -28/+215Yeah, C++ doesn't have an "extends" or "implements"

- dgblackout, on 04/06/2008, -2/+1sarcasm, douchebag.
- Maddpaky, on 04/05/2008, -15/+958that will never compile. How can it return LotsMoreMoney if the function is a void?
/sorry- getisboy, on 04/05/2008, -20/+174that's just how bad the vista code is
- InstantRepeater, on 04/05/2008, -2/+4i guess they won't compile it anyway but mutate the '95 binaries randomly with microsoft releasemaker 09
- raklos, on 04/05/2008, -4/+23So I wasn't the only one checking if it would compile ;) oh dear.
- khellendros1984, on 04/06/2008, -0/+6you mean aside from all the undeclared variables and functions? =p
- Maddpaky, on 04/06/2008, -0/+5we assume those are in the included header files.
gosh, im overanalyzing this fake code too much.
- Maddpaky, on 04/06/2008, -0/+5we assume those are in the included header files.
- DustinHill, on 04/06/2008, -6/+3You actually checked if it would compile? Could you not tell from the syntax that the code wouldn't fly? Why in the baby christ's name would you even need to think about that? Are you currently attending ITT?

- KenzoIX, on 04/06/2008, -3/+1and it should be main(), not main :-)
Or maybe
int main(long long customerMoney)
{
......
.....
return 0;
} - thejynxed, on 04/06/2008, -0/+0That statement is intended to imply that people are pirating Vista left and right anyhow, so the LotsMoreMoney doesn't occur, hence the return to void. It's playing on the old canard that more people pirate Windows than pay for it.
- SynchCounter, on 04/06/2008, -0/+0Well, assuming that the code is supposed to conform to some C++ standard and not MS's own kind of compiler, main returns an int, and the syntax for a derived class is wrong, and there is no notion of "implements".
Of course, we can assume it doesn't have to conform to standards, yet "void" means pretty much the same thing in every language...
Or of course we can note that it's a joke, but honestly, I'm the kind of guy who thinks it's far funnier when you're given joke code that would, in fact, compile. - hirou, on 04/06/2008, -0/+0that's just it, They never did compile *vista* they compiled the mumblings of a new born baby and stuck a few punctuation points in here and there

- combatchuck, on 04/05/2008, -3/+24I have Vista. To tell you the truth, there isn't much difference from XP for normal usage. Besides, you were probably one of the people bitching about how much of a performance hog XP was when it came out, and that it would never gain a foothold when 2000 and 98 were so obviously superior.

Oh, and most companies do not upgrade because it would cost waaaaaaaaaaay to damn much. Same goes for most users, they do not have a computer that can run it and have no desire to upgrade it. When they buy a new computer that can run it then they will accept it.
Also obligatory it works for me. - RobotPimp, on 04/06/2008, -3/+11'***** - Vista is a complete pile of stinking horse ***** isn't it?

Why don't people who say 'It doesnt work for me' BE QUIET? There are 100 million+ Vista installs and if it didn't work flawlessly on the vast majority of machines it ran on the forums would be overflowing with legitimate complaints. Not "OMG VISTA DRM SUX" retarded whinings of idiots. Vista is the fastest growing OS, so when you say users have rejected it you're just looking like an idiot, most people never upgrade an OS they almost always buy a new OS with a new computer, companies are the same, why would they ever upgrade if the software they have works? MS couldn't possibly come up with a feature that would make them do that, they only upgrade to keep support current because they have VERY BASIC needs anyways, but you stupid vista bashers keep repeating this tired easily refuted braindead excuse of an argument EVERY DAY ALL DAY to amuse yourselves, you're just a bunch of idiots.- vladin, on 04/06/2008, -3/+1Do you work for Microsoft?
- thejynxed, on 04/06/2008, -1/+0Once again, some random idiot falls for the OMGZ 100+ million Vista installs! nonsense.
You forget some very basic facts:
MS counts every new OEM sale as a Vista sale, if it has Vista or they put XP on it instead.
Buying a machine with Vista, and then using the downgrade license to put XP on it still counts as a Vista "sale" and "install" to Microsoft, as well as an additional XP install.
If Vista is so peachy-keen, then why are most OEMs and smaller shops offering XP still?- dudetaz2003, on 04/06/2008, -0/+2Because there are still computers that do not meet the system requirements.
- JayLewis, on 04/08/2008, -0/+0True that! +1

- fuzzmeister, on 04/06/2008, -0/+1I've been preparing for the AP too, and while the coding itself is not bad at all, the lack of a compiler to check for bugs is certainly hard to get used to. - Giga, on 04/06/2008, -0/+0Somehow I don't think a C or C++ or Java book would help in this case, much in the same way a cookbook doesn't give good directions to the mall.
- Figs, on 04/06/2008, -0/+1It probably would since this is neither valid C++ nor valid Java; Java does not use #include, and C++ does not use the 'extends' and 'implements' keywords for inheritance (it uses a colon followed by an optionally access-qualified [like 'private', 'protected', or 'public'] class name).
If you've done more than a week of programming in either of those languages, this should stick out like a sore thumb.

- omenmedia, on 04/05/2008, -3/+7Yeah it's not a fine wine, it's an OS, with the longest amount of time between Windows releases ever (XP -> Vista). They had the time, they had the resources, and they produced a turd. What MS really needs to do (and probably never will) is bite the bullet, drop backwards compatibility and start fresh (ala OS X). Until then, each release will be more bloated, more bug-riddled, and more crap.
- djbon2112, on 04/05/2008, -5/+3Huh?
They DID drop backwards compatibility! And that's what a lot of you dolts are complaining about.
DX10 is not backwards compatible. Hence DX9L. Usual complaint.
The new driver model (at the kernel level) is not backwards compatible. Hence completely new hardware drivers are needed. Usual complaint.
And, for the record, if you knew ANYTHING about Vista, you'd realize it isn't a "turd", and is a logical step in the evolution of Windows. Did it really need 6 years? No. But that doesn't make it this evil monster of a system that fails as soon as you turn it on that everyone seems to make it out to be.- djbon2112, on 04/05/2008, -3/+2I should've added after my second sentence "in some areas". Applications still work the same because the API is the same, but there's no need to change that. It works 100%. Just because Apple decided to move from one codebase to another, completely incompatible one, doesn't mean MS should do the same.
- connorf, on 04/05/2008, -3/+4You're right vista isn't a turd. It's a downright piece of *****.

- metzner, on 04/06/2008, -1/+0its a operating system, not a human. it should work out of the box. linux and mac work out of the box. no errors. maybe driver issues in linux but at least it works. there are ways to tweak linux to make drivers work. mac can work drivers once they are plugged in. microsoft has 5 years to make vista . they could have made something good.

All computer hardware works with Windows XP, something tells me you are a kid that doesn't know *****, looks like your brain hardware doesn't work with the rest of you body. - witcompe, on 04/06/2008, -0/+2No, he is correct, right now Intel Turbo Memory only gives benefit in Windows Vista. ReadyBoot is not in Windows XP, so it cannot take advantage of the hybrid hard drive technology that Intel Turbo Mem mimics. However, you chose something that is very proprietary to demonstrate how hardware is not compatible with WinXP. I have only ever seen one laptop with Turbo Memory installed. So I will give you a couple widely used pieces of hardware that are NOT fully compatible with Vista: Creative Labs Sound Cards, nVidia graphics cards (due to driver issues).
- daxsymbiont, on 04/06/2008, -0/+1i got a random one and happened to have it. granted it's not the most spectacular piece of technology ever conceived.

In reality while not a great OS, and not worth actually paying money to upgrade, if you get it for free (I got it free through my school), it's really not that bad as long as your computer is decent.
I haven't noticed any real slowdowns compared to XP. Haven't had any issues with drivers either or software compatibility. It's never once crashed on me since August when I started running it.
It's definitely does have some nice features, the new start menu is a huge improvement, and Shadow Copy is great for students.- Napalmhaze, on 04/05/2008, -4/+8Indeed. Its a great os but people wont hear it. Even people that have never ever used it try to tell me why I shouldnt use Vista cos its soooo *****. Its gotten out of hand! - Lanlost, on 04/06/2008, -1/+1Yeah..
- Lanlost, on 04/06/2008, -1/+1Yeah.. I have an on/off liking for Vista. I really liked XP with Sp2... overall it worked out better for me than any linux distro or OSX for everyday usage. Note: I have a MacBook, and two desktops.. one with Vista and one with LinuxMint.
- jakobhedlund, on 05/24/2008, -5/+2The start menu is for n00bs!
- Lanlost, on 04/06/2008, -1/+2It's really sad, you are correct. People base their opinions on Vista and such from other people they know. The problem is that most of the people they are basing their opinions on are also basing THEIR opinions from other people THEY know. It isn't as easy as most of the Mac users, who do the same thing, would like you to think. You know, the whole "GET A MAC I DONT GET BSODS EVERY SECOND ANYMORE!!" kind of talk. I just assume that they are still using 98 because I haven't had a BSOD (minus hardware error) in years. Like everything in life, the issue at hand is way more complex than people seem to want to believe. I have a MacBook and two desktops, one with LinuxMint and one with Vista. I love all three and really the advantages that each have are narrowing more than ever.
Really, I think everyone is guilty of this. I know I used to be. It's really nice to feel like you know something that no one else does. It's really nice to feel like you are one of the 'elite.' What killed it for me was realizing that liking the non-mainstream is just as mainstream as liking the mainstream to begin with. If you really want to stick out, learn to find the TRUTH about these matters and then learn to spread it without coming across as a douchebag elitist.- Napalmhaze, on 04/06/2008, -0/+1See there you go speaking the absolute truth and still getting dugg down! The biggest problem with Vista is not the OS itself, its public opinion of the OS and the speed at which misinformation travels thanks to the digital revolution that is the internet. I have people, friends of mine who dont even have their own pc's saying stuff like "Im thinking of buying a mac cos i wont have to deal with *insert generic typical anti MS hate here* when they clearly know nothing on the subject. I try to correct them, I try to reason with them and its like talking to a brick wall.
Especially since SP1 vista really doesnt deserve this hate. I've used it from the start, never crashed, never bluescreened, never had a problem whatsoever. Nor have any of my friends that use it, and we're all gamers. The last time I saw a bluescreen was a few years ago on my old XP box when I had a RAM stick fail. Generally the BSOD doesnt appear unless you have a serious hardware fault. And people STILL insist on using it as an example of why windows sucks! Then they talk about viruses and having to find a driver for everything. Viruses? My pc's have never seen one! Having to search for a driver is a rareity, mostly its all plug and play. The only thing u really need a driver for is the grpahics card, and thats the same with linux too if u want 3d effects! And dont anybody tell me its easier to configure a GPU driver in most linux distros!
All in all the power of the internet and the ignorant views of its populace has really been shown in this case. It is sites just like Digg that are more of a problem than Vista is itself!

- Kanidia, on 04/06/2008, -0/+1Window Vista costs money?
- Napalmhaze, on 04/05/2008, -4/+8Indeed. Its a great os but people wont hear it. Even people that have never ever used it try to tell me why I shouldnt use Vista cos its soooo *****. Its gotten out of hand! Why I quite expect to get dugg down for posting this.
- gregdbowen, on 04/05/2008, -9/+8if you have a laptop with 1G - the OS consumes half your memory - 2G 1/4.
Time how long it takes to boot, open control panel, etc.
Try and drag a shortcut from start menu to quicklaunch
try and run a legacy help file
try and run professional legacy software - like 3d max, flash or after effects
you will see.- Dotmeister, on 04/05/2008, -3/+3If you have a laptop and shut it down every day, then it's a PEBKAC. Learn to Hibernate. If you have a laptop with only 1/2Gb to run Pro Legacy Software, then it's a PEBKAC. Let's face it, if you know how to do it right you'll get it right. I'm using my Macbook with Vista Business to do all my development projects and have a uptime of 6 days. It runs perfect and didn't have a BSOD.
- nandasunu, on 04/06/2008, -0/+16 days is nothing special...
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 04/06/2008, -0/+5When you use Vista it's pointless to watch your ram usage meter, because it preloads your apps and files, and frees that memory if it's needed for something else.
Doing it this was is simply smarter than leaving the memory there free and unused.- Doomhammer, on 04/06/2008, -0/+1I'm HOPING that people are disabling that service before whining about how Vista is using up all their memory? If not, that'd make all these people complaining look really stupid......
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 04/06/2008, -0/+1Do you really expect them to?
The reality is most of the people doing the complaining weren't even using Vista, and were either using another OS entirely or repeating other complaints they've heard.
Do you really expect someone who believes that a mac is the best choice in every single way to actually take the time to find out about non-Apple products?
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 04/06/2008, -0/+1Do you really expect them to?

- Doomhammer, on 04/06/2008, -0/+2Actually on my laptop (A Toshiba Satellite X205) Vista doesn't use anywhere near a gig of memory by itself - and I even have a lot of the flashy graphics enabled.
As for boot time, I really haven't noticed a major difference between Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Gentoo... A few seconds more or less really doesn't even matter to me. Similarly I haven't noticed a huge slowdown in the control panel or anything else -- if anything, it's a bit faster than XP's was -- and the search in the control panel is actually pretty handy.
I can honestly say that in all my years of using computers I have never really wanted to drag and drop something from my start menu to my quicklaunch bar... It seems to me that you're just trying to find little things wrong with Vista to prove your point, despite the fact that nobody really cares about them.
Run a legacy help file? People actually use those? I've always preferred Google, myself...
As for backwards compatibility with older software, moving forward is, generally speaking, a good thing. It would be _very_ hard to write an OS that supported every piece of software ever made -- there has to be some point where you discontinue support; otherwise, we'd still be using DOS. What needs to happen is that third-party software developers need to update their software to run on the newer architecture, instead of just saying, "Oh, it won't run on Vista? Oh well, you're screwed." (I'm looking at you, Creative...). Now, granted, it's debatable whether Microsoft discontinued support for some things too soon or whatever, but I don't think this is a point where you can say the entire OS is terrible...- eugooglie, on 04/06/2008, -1/+0Ummmm, some of that software is pretty expensive (unless you pirate it, which I can't at work), and if you want to upgrade because your IT guy wants everybody on the latest OS and the programs you used to use no longer work, yeah, that kinda sucks!!! And then they expect you to get your work done without the tools you used to use! Awesome! After Effects and 3dsmax aren't legacy, they're programs that are used by creative professionals every day. I guess I'll just start putting my video presentations together frame by frame using Paint!
- BarriedaleNick, on 04/06/2008, -0/+2"Try and drag a shortcut from start menu to quicklaunch."
WTF are you banging on about - you are just showing your ignorance.

- Synapse84, on 04/05/2008, -1/+6make sure you run Vista SP1, it fixes a lot of the performance issues that made vista suck.
windows key + r -> winver
and look for "Service Pack 1" in there.
most of the people that still bash vista haven't tried it since SP1. And i know because i used to bash Vista as well.
Only gripe i have with Vista still, is that if i unplug my headset (front panel) any applications that used sound no longer work... but gonna buy a audio switch so thats not gonna bother me anymore.
something like: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8 ...- Slaughter33, on 04/20/2008, -0/+0Thats not vista's fault, thats your pc manufacturer....
- 35263526, on 04/05/2008, -1/+6The fact that you just switched now explains it. I tried Vista at release, and then 8 months ago, and then 5 months ago. While each experience was progressively better, none of 'em were pretty. However, I'm using Vista right now, not even with SP1 (I've got the en-gb localization and apparently SP1 doesn't like my Creative sound card), and it's worked out brilliantly, although I'd still rather be running Linux were it not for games.
- arjunprabhu, on 04/06/2008, -5/+6try copying 4 gb of photos from a SD/CF card in vista,... and then do the same on xp or *nux. You will get the answer you are looking for!
- Napalmhaze, on 04/06/2008, -2/+3Is that an opinion u formed before or after sp1? Get with the times!
- 35263526, on 04/06/2008, -0/+2A lot of people (the majority of Vista users, I dare say, since there are more people outside the North America than in) can't get SP1 yet...
- Napalmhaze, on 04/06/2008, -1/+1And Europe I assume. I know I can get it in the UK but fair enough Perhaps not everyone has had the chance yet. I updated my laptop with sp1 as soon as it become available on win update, and much improvement was immediately noticeable.
- 35263526, on 04/06/2008, -0/+2A lot of people (the majority of Vista users, I dare say, since there are more people outside the North America than in) can't get SP1 yet...
- Shizlanski, on 04/06/2008, -1/+2It actually much faster in vista than XP. Cant speak for linux etc...
- Doomhammer, on 04/06/2008, -1/+1I really doubt that's the fault of the Vista kernel, I'd bet it's the fault of the driver that it's using to interact with your card reader. I mean, I realize that almost all hardware companies have released great drivers for Vista, but maybe that one is an exception? =P
- HyperionHK, on 04/06/2008, -0/+1naw, it actually WAS a problem with Vista. When Vista came out it had TERRIBLE problems with copying large files around. Copying video files to my external drive would bog down my computer so bad you could barely do anything with it. But over time, through patches it got better and better. SP1 completely fixed issues with file transfers however.

- MacSuxWindozSux, on 04/06/2008, -1/+3My windows machine is a gaming rig, so I've never had any problems using Vista.
Fast hardware and lots of memory and such.
I found that the whole "newer OS is slower" was exactly like the upgrade from win98 to XP. Just now Apple fans don't have a dog ***** MacOS, and are quick to attack anyone not using Apple products. - Shizlanski, on 04/06/2008, -0/+3
- RobotLeAwesome, on 04/06/2008, -2/+3bloated os is bloated
- stix213, on 04/14/2008, -0/+2Vista is slow compared to XP while not delivering on many new features. A lot of the more exciting sounding features that were supposed to be in Vista were actually dropped during development (like WinFS).
The driver & legacy app incompatibilities with Vista are all normal when a new MS OS is released though, so I wouldn't hold that against them.
Personally I don't like the idea of DRM being built in now, so that might keep me away from the OS for good. You all can let Redmond & Friends control how and when you watch movies and listen to music, but I prefer that I make that choice. - dspirito, on 04/17/2008, -1/+1Vista isn't that bad, just be sure to allocate 8,000 to 12,000mb of hard drive space as virtual memory, which was limited to 4096mb in XP.
