- crysiss, on 06/18/2009, -6/+16312 Diggs and the site died? Brutal.
- CoreyTamas, on 06/18/2009, -5/+149Interestingly... I thought this chart revision was still too soft on IE. :)

- walruspanzer, on 06/18/2009, -3/+85The only use of internet explorer is to download firefox.
- serif69, on 06/18/2009, -1/+75I said it on the last IE8 story, and I'll say it here: As a web designer, I don't care what kind of lies they have perpetuate in order to get people to drop IE6 and upgrade to IE8. Bash Firefox, Safari, Opera, Chrome, whatever. Just let me stop writing "* html" all over my CSS.

Edit: Nope, didn't work. - enantiodromia, on 06/18/2009, -6/+71Fact: Internet Explorer 8 is best used to download Chrome and Firefox, and then for the occasional Windows Update.
- unconfirmed, on 06/18/2009, -1/+43Wait! It did!
Thanks! - supermario182, on 06/18/2009, -0/+41this page is only compatible with ie6 or lower
- inactive, on 06/18/2009, -5/+38WHOOOOSH!
That's the sound of Chrome data-mining your surfing habits.
"Congratulations! You've won a Nintendo Wii!!"
That's the sound Chrome's lack of ad-blocking. - rnawky, on 06/18/2009, -2/+32Okay for the dumb ***** that replied to this. I posted what was on the ***** website from the Google Cache, that wasn't my writeup.
***** morons. - adc86, on 06/18/2009, -4/+32It's not necessarily fanboyism. There are a number of people who base their livelihoods on writing code that is will likely at some point be interpreted by this browser. That means holding back progress of what can be achieved on the internet, plain and simple.
I agree, there are bigger issues in the world, and watching the share of IE6 hitting my sites decline makes me very happy, but 8 not being able to use CSS3 (html5, etc) means I either have to write a site twice or forego techniques that could give me an edge on the competition.
When it's arguably intentional on their part, that just plain sucks. - specialK16, on 06/18/2009, -0/+27Funny until you let yourself look like someone with no ***** clue.
- StBucky, on 06/18/2009, -0/+27Somehow I pasted the same thing twice, and for that I wholeheartedly apologise. I re-read that very carefully exactly six minutes after posting it. Sorry, but it was beyond editing.
The other one I was trying to quote was "Let's be honest here. If you have a new Microsoft Windows computer, there is no single easier tool to download a real browser."
Now you know. - JasonCox, on 06/18/2009, -29/+55Buried because I'm a Firefox user who's tired of all this damn Fanboy-ism. It's a fraking web browser, just like Firefox and just like Chrome. So Chrome renders out websites 0.01835 seconds faster and Firefox has more plugins, so what? IE8 is a damn fine browser and is by far the best browser that has ever come out of Microsoft. Now quit your bitching before be happy that IE6 is no longer the most installed version of IE.
- rnawky, on 06/18/2009, -13/+38Here's what I got from it.
Security - Internet Explorer 8 takes the cake when it comes to insecurity. I mean. ActiveX, in 2009? WTF people??
Privacy - While Chrome has a native private browsing mode, and Firefox offers it through a plugin, with Internet Explorer 8 you are certain that any plugin can safely get all your data!
Ease of Use - Let's be honest here. If you have a new Microsoft Windows computer, there is no single easier tool to download a real browser.
Web Standards - "Webwhats? CSS 2.1 are still the new shiz, right?" is a literal quote from an Internet Explorer team meeting. Party like it's 1998, baby!
Developer Tools - Calling it InternetBug would be just a tad too obvious.
Reliability - Only Internet Explorer 8 has both tab isolation and crash recovery features; it absolutely needs them both! (…okay, okay, Firefox and Chrome can do similar stuff…)
Customizability - Firefox has thousands of extensions, Chrome has them too, and Internet Explorer has thousands of malicious ActiveX plugins!
Compatibility - Internet Explorer 8 is more compatible with the early 90s than any other browser. Useless really, when Geocities is pulling the plug.
Manageability - Neither Firefox nor Chrome provide convenient vendor lock-in that assure installation on any and all Microsoft Windows computers.
Performance - WHOOSH! Hear that? It's the sound of Chrome racing past you at ridiculously high speeds. - gemlarin, on 06/18/2009, -7/+32IE8 is absolute garbage.
(Actually every version of IE has been garbage)
Every piece of malware, every hijack, every security issue, every display issue, every standards issue, every browser lockup, was directly related to the use of IE.
Firefox+Noscript+Adblock Plus is all anyone ever needs to avoid these issues.
That is all. - AmazingAndrex, on 06/18/2009, -1/+23Opera: (X)
No matter if you're on Linux, a Wii, or even a cell phone. - Radan, on 06/18/2009, -3/+25You are not a web developer.
- Xaevier, on 06/18/2009, -6/+27Why does Microsoft do stuff like this? The only people to read articles such as the above are those who already know that Internet Explorer is a virus ridden piece of crap.
They should just enjoy their captive audience of Grandma/soccer moms who just use the default browser. - Karstark, on 06/18/2009, -7/+28"WHOOSH! Hear that? It's the sound of Chrome racing past you at ridiculously high speeds."
Loved this X] - elmuerte17, on 06/18/2009, -0/+20pentium 386?
- Shuk, on 06/18/2009, -5/+25Internet Explorer 8 makes all Pro Tools setups unable to run. That's a fact. Just thought I'd add that in there, it's a big deal in the audio production business.
- rnawky, on 06/18/2009, -2/+2234 years old and a comment like that? Something tells me you're one of those star trek nerds who sit up front and center at the stage in a strip club.
Grow up, if it isn't too late already. - CoreyTamas, on 06/18/2009, -3/+21That's nothing. One day I was walking down the street and I ran into David Hasselhoff. You know what that bastard stone cold said to me? He said "Let's be honest here. If you have a new Microsoft Windows computer, there is no single easier tool to download a real browser."
I was like LOL - STARTSOMETHING, on 06/18/2009, -1/+18Yeah Microsoft.com didn't find anything negative about IE!
- jakereilly, on 06/18/2009, -2/+19I really liked: "Let's be honest here. If you have a new Microsoft Windows computer, there is no single easier tool to download a real browser."
- stronglikedan, on 06/18/2009, -0/+16It's dead because every other social news site linked to it hours before Digg. (As usual)
- mehan, on 06/18/2009, -3/+19Also, ""Let's be honest here. If you have a new Microsoft Windows computer, there is no single easier tool to download a real browser." was pretty lulzy.
- pinetree, on 06/18/2009, -0/+15Suppose web standards were to evolve to add more capabilities to browsers so that browser-based applications became increasingly competitive with desktop applications. So, the browser becomes the platform instead of the OS. If IE had only small market share, Windows would become irrelevant, because people could run whatever application they want on any non-IE browser (which would run on any OS).
Maintaining a large market share for IE allows Microsoft to do two things:
1) Keep people using crap like ActiveX that ties them to Windows.
2) Keep websites and software vendors from utilizing the new capabilities provided by evolving standards by simply refusing to implement those standards in IE. With IE having a large market share, it is very hard to base a business on features that require the user to use a different browser. Microsoft retards evolution of the browser by refusing to keep up, which keeps the browser from supplanting Windows as the application platform. - AdHavoc, on 06/18/2009, -2/+17I was literally LOLing at "Let's be honest here. If you have a new Microsoft Windows computer, there is no single easier tool to download a real browser."
- Langford, on 06/18/2009, -1/+15It lets them leverage a level of control over the server market.
- FKnight, on 06/18/2009, -0/+14Nice try dumbasses.

- hyAxis, on 06/18/2009, -1/+15I know, it's almost like premature ejaculation or something.
- plusonetwo, on 06/18/2009, -7/+20You know, if Microsoft truly gave a rat's azz about standards, they'd put together TV ads telling all the IE6 folks to upgrade to the shiny newness.
- YuviC, on 06/19/2009, -0/+12Sigh... You might as well disable your account just so people can't see that comment.

Looks like we have a winner, although I can't wait for Chromium to be available as a stable release. - AdHavoc, on 06/18/2009, -1/+12weird, I was thinking the exact same thing when I read it.
- AdHavoc, on 06/18/2009, -1/+12have you ever heard of a domain? it's in the top of your browser (us in the know call it the "Address Bar") and helps you to determine which website, or domain, you're on.
- renesisx, on 06/19/2009, -0/+9This is my solution below. Enjoy. It allows you to use a single stylesheet and just code against the different IE monstrosities with simple class adjustments.
This is standard HTML - those conditional comments are only parsed by Internet Explorer:
<!--[if IE 6]>
<body class="ie ie6">
<![endif]-->
<!--[if IE 7]>
<body class="ie ie7">
<![endif]-->
<!--[if IE 8]>
<body class="ie ie8">
<![endif]-->
<!--[if !IE]>-->
<body>
<!--<![endif]--> - mdraper, on 06/18/2009, -1/+10The funny part is I bet more than 50% of the people posting comments in this thread are using IE to post their comments :P
