/cheapshot - inactive, on 02/25/2009, -1/+484Love the 5 hour part, now THAT'S precise.
- offon, on 02/24/2009, -19/+403You have to be immortal to use Vista ! ;)
- ryan83189, on 02/25/2009, -5/+316Do you want those files copied fast or right? Because you can't have it both ways.
- duggdowncatisad, on 02/25/2009, -1/+283You're obviously copying something copyrighted, and Vista is making you wait until the copyright expires.
- Zippo, on 02/24/2009, -4/+267only 1.45GB? Christ, that's my download folder after less than a half-hour
- brawr, on 02/25/2009, -16/+260I see a future in which badwithcomputer, surrounded by relatives and loved ones is slowly but surely succumbing to old age. Everything has been taken care of. A full life has been lived with no regrets and everything he/she chose to accomplish has been done.
Everything except one thing. But that's OK. He/she still has enough breath and will to see it done.
badwithcomputer: [struggling, yet with conviction] Is Chelsea here?
Relative 1: No, but she's on her way. She'll make it - don't worry. Don't over exert yourself
badwithcomputer: I'm so tired. It's nearly time
(suddenly, there is a commotion in the back. An argument starts, then promptly finishes. Footsteps can be heard over the floorboards. They can now be heard over the stairs, climbing furiously)
Relative 1: It's Chelsea - she's here!
sure enough, Chelsea, still dressed in her work clothes, comes running and promptly kneels by badwithcomputer's side, gently squeezing his/her arm, tears running down her face
Chelsea: I'm here! I'm here... I came immediately. I'm sorry I took so long.
badwithcomputer: (now, clearly struggling) Come.. closer...
(Chelsea reaches over, Damortih's voice barely a whisper)
Chelsea: Yes, I'm here
badwithcomputer: *I won't live to see it done...it's up to you... key... bottom desk drawer... the key to the attic... you'll know what to do... *
(One last, long sigh.... badwithcomputer is gone.)
3 days pass...
Chelsea has now come home. She's tired and hurt. The last few days have taken their toll. There will be further grieving for her, but for now, she's all alone. She remembers badwithcomputer's last wishes and goes to the study. Surely enough, there is a key inside an envelope taped to the bottom of desk drawer A note with specific but cryptic instructions accompanies the key. It is time.
She heads for the attic, the one place in the estate she's never been to; badwithcomputer had kept it shut all these years. She reaches the door and inserts the key. The lock is rusty and antiquated, but eventually it gives way.
It's dark inside, but Chelsea can now discern some vague shapes. There is something clicking in the far corner. She makes her way through a lifetime worth of knicknacks and cabinets.
The far corner has a small work area. Here lies an ancient device, yellowed with age and impossibly old. She remembers seeing these 'laptops' in a museum a long time ago. There were in use in the earlier part of the 21st century, back in the days of the oil wars. She's surprised beyond belief to see it's still working, albeit very, very slowly. She checks the envelope and takes out the instructions. She finds the input device; a primitive button-based terminal. She reaches for the corded object attached to the base and moves it around. Suddenly, the viewing monitor flickers to life. the machine makes more noises, sickly now - it's awake and like its owner, it's on the brink. The screen now swims into view. She can see a small text window just as the acrid smell of circuits burning reach her nostrils.
It's too late now - the machine finally croaks and dies in a flash of sparks and smoke.
The message printed on the fading monitor will haunt her for many years to come...

- suprxtragrav, on 02/25/2009, -9/+84Updates: They do an OS good.
Seriously, Vista SP1 addressed these file transfer issues almost a year ago. Or did badwithcomputer just run out of images to repost onto digg? Maybe you should also repost a picture of the Windows ME BSOD? - dopesick, on 02/25/2009, -22/+94Yes, because a "new and improved windows OS" should require use of add-on's, for the most basic of system functions.
/sarcasm - rakeshishere, on 02/25/2009, -2/+70How about this?

- sildude, on 02/25/2009, -1/+42I don't get it why you're being dugg down. If I'm buying an OS, I don't want to be forced to download additional 3rd party stuff just to get file transferring to reasonable speeds.
