- gronne, on 10/11/2007, -30/+216I feel the same about all eye-candy including Beryl and OSX. Wow, it's raining on my desktop, that'll really increase my productivity!
- lordtyros, on 10/11/2007, -7/+192This 200 word metaphor really wasn't worth the time it took to read it.
- JackWhite, on 10/11/2007, -20/+149Buried as lame because some retard made a blog completely dedicated to complaining about Vista.
- Tr33fiddy, on 10/11/2007, -3/+130Does this mean Vista has a backdoor I can exploit?
- shlolz, on 10/11/2007, -7/+125From the comments:
"THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH PICTURES OF JESICCA SIMPSON IN THIS ARTICLE
DOWN WITH YOU"
I agree wholeheartedly. - cvrefugee, on 10/11/2007, -25/+130Aero slows down this guy's computer? WTF is he running, an AMD K-6 with 32MB EDO RAM?
- modafroman, on 10/11/2007, -4/+62Maybe the vista haters would prefer to relate Aero to Paris Hilton. Blond, alright looking, but god damn, walk past her and you get all sorts of sexually transmitted diseases.
I am a vista user, and I like Aero, its nice, and its a damnsight better looking than the crappy XP standard theme, or the "classic" windows theme (ugh horrible). - PiGuy, on 10/11/2007, -4/+46Why does this guy care so much about what theme I use?
- K3ITHK, on 10/11/2007, -5/+45Maybe if Vista was cheaper it would be more like Jessica Simpson.
- praveenmarkandu, on 10/11/2007, -9/+48errr.there is nothing productive about the cube. its just a 3D representation of virtual desktops, which linux distros have had since i can remember.
- estvir, on 10/11/2007, -20/+57But it's an amazingly stupid analogy and this moron claims things like DWM.exe of which he has no real understanding other than assumptions uses large amounts of CPU cycles, I mean, it's not like Aero [Glass] primarily uses the GPU, right?
I'm intrigued; Vista is OBVIOUSLY so flawed and horrible yet people resort to petty analogies and lies to try and make it look bad. It's kind of like those Vista 'flaws' like the speech recognition one, surely there are so many obvious remotely exploitable ones you could frolic around screaming about on the interwebs to increase your e-penis.
Oh, and even if there was some substance to this article wouldn't saying 'dugg for the analogy' be incredibly silly? It'd be like going to every story and saying 'dugg for x' where x pertains to what the article is. - crestfall, on 10/11/2007, -13/+49Rain, Snow, Electric Storm, Cube Atlantis, and writing with fire may all be gimmicky novelties to engage potential users, or to explore what's possible in a fun way, but the cube is the greatest advancement for the desktop since Win 95, in my opinion.
- BlackCow, on 10/11/2007, -24/+60Actually, your a fanboy.
- Lane, on 10/11/2007, -26/+60Aero is fantastic if anything they need More transparency options. I havent had any kind of slow down what so ever and its not like there isn't an option to disable Aero if you so choose.
- estvir, on 10/11/2007, -9/+42No, it doesn't.
- seanneko, on 10/11/2007, -3/+35Vista uses more resources than previous versions of Windows? Wow, stop the presses! That's what people have been saying about every new version of Windows since the beginning.
I remember installing Windows 95 on my 486 and having it run at a crawl - does that mean that Windows 95 was a step backwards? - DesireCampbell, on 10/11/2007, -3/+35I'm running a _celeron_ with _half_ a gig of RAM, and a geforce _5500_ and Aero (yes, with full transparency) runs better than XP did. No slowdown, no choppiness.
- nsjoker, on 10/11/2007, -14/+44Really? Jessica Simpson is the best you could do? She has the face of a man, I can think of much hotter/dumber girls than her.

Not attractive. - SouLFacE, on 10/11/2007, -4/+30look at his blog name: vistarapedme.com (vista raped me). what we should expect from him, he'll praise vista ? LOL. sounds like his gf dumped him for vista :P
- TwistedMenta, on 10/11/2007, -3/+28Agreed. When I first used Beryl it thought it was cool because of all the little gimmicky effects but after a while I found that it was actually very helpful with the cube and scale being the most helpful two parts.
- Yarnage, on 10/11/2007, -9/+33This is a dumb "article". Aero is a step in the right direction and does increase usability. Have you noticed the darkening of the title bar in full screen mode on windows? That's a result of hundreds of hours of usability testing where it helped draw a user's attention to the center of the window rather than looking at a title bar or a task bar.
Even if you disagee, you can't say Aero is like Jessica Simpson. If you'd like, you can change the look and feel back to the original Windows. Besides, Aero doesn't affect performance like you think. Unless you have an insanely old PC, it'll still be humming away without issue with Aero enabled. I know, I've tested and rolled out Vista on multiple machine. Even running games, Aero won't affect them as it uses no memory while an application has the fullscreen.
This is all FUD on a useless blog. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+24'vistarapedme.com' is of course a fair and balanced source of information about the OS. Because no one would dismiss 'ubuntugavemetheclap.net' offhand. The FUD machine from the F$F GNU/Advocatards is really getting into high gear now.
- bigtomrodney, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20To be fair it does make it more usable for someone, and easier to relate to in their mind. I remember trying to explain virtual desktops in KDE years ago by showing the mouse roll over the desktop. The answer was "Why can't you just minimise and maximise as needed?". The same people were showed the cube last year and ended up adopting Linux.
- bj00rn, on 10/11/2007, -4/+22Linux nerds needs to get a life instead of trying to spread FUD day in and day out. Just pathetic. (Writing this on a Mac btw, so no I'm not a Windows fan, but for **** sake, this daily dose of anti-ms FUD on digg is getting ridiculous).
- Twoodge, on 10/11/2007, -2/+20Actually, I agree with you, but you can't use contractions.
- spinningobo, on 10/11/2007, -6/+23So what if Aero slows down tasks a bit? I'd take it over a ***** looking GUI (like windows classic) any day.
Put it this way: If you had the choice between a smoking hot woman who can cook and an ugly-ass woman that can cook slightly faster, you'd choose the eye candy. - csl5049, on 10/11/2007, -6/+22I kind of like Aero... I must not be enlightened
- terminal157, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17...And Jessica Simpson isn't all that hot.
Really, she's nothing special. Dime a dozen. No idea why she's famous. - HyperJack, on 10/11/2007, -3/+19Nice rant man !
- elvenseven, on 10/11/2007, -5/+21Theres no friggin way I'm letting go of my Vista.
- ineptsavant, on 10/11/2007, -7/+22I actually like aero ALOT the windows tab is nice. Also it has no slowdown on a ***** integrated geforce 6150 laptop. On my sli gaming rig(which of course few home consumers have) it's awesome...almost as cool as beyrl. You can play 10 movies and watch them all at one by cascading the windows.

that link has some really good tips. - DubbedOver, on 10/11/2007, -2/+16FTA: "But now we get laggy movement while dragging windows around and the Aero process (dwm.exe, Desktop Window Manager) chews up precious CPU cycles."
I don't think CPU cycles for people who can run Aero to begin with are "precious". If you are that strapped for CPU speed them maybe you shouldn't be running Aero anyway, and simply turn it off - that is if Vista itself even lets you use to begin with. Most people who run a machine that has a good enough version of Vista to have Aero is not going to even notice the cycles taken.
I could see if this was a feature that could not be disabled but you can and it's not hard at all. - tensionhead, on 10/11/2007, -8/+22Aero is fine on my computer.
Core 2 Duo E6700
2GB ram
Geforce 7900 GTX - Rupan, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15DWM which is Desktop Windows Manager aka the Aero effect only takes up 48MB for me. Thats only slightly more then Thunderbird which I also always leave open. Really, it comes down to your GPU. If you have a 7000 series or higher Aero shouldnt hurt you. And precious CPU cycles? On my task manager it is using 0% of my 5% CPU usage right now. Only time it really stacks up is if you grab a window and move it around like crazy. I love the new GUI on my system and I would never turn it off. On some older systems in my house IE Integrated Graphics or older NVIDIAs chipsets I go back to windows basic. I guess it really comes down to a PC to PC basis.
- sleepwalkers, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13http://www.solarnavigator.net/music/music_images/jessica_simpson_hot_and_wet.jpg
That, my friends, is Jessica Simpson.
Enjoy. - Septimus, on 10/11/2007, -3/+16Buried. Inaccurate.
- oMeSSiaHo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14Because it doesnt have wobbly windows or a big dock on the bottom it's bad? In my time using Aero I thought it was fine. The application switcher is practical and nice looking and everything else looked good. Microsoft cant change the GUI after 12 years so stop expecting them to. If they did I'm sure you'd see many more complaints.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12http://www.lanlocked.net/junk/vista_simpson.jpg
- rushad, on 10/11/2007, -9/+21LAME LAME
- Disease, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12Um, what?
There may be an extra 1 in it. - fodaley, on 10/11/2007, -5/+16No one is forcing you to use aero.
Control Panel -> Performance Information and Tools -> Adjust Visual Effects -> Adjust for best performance
I think even Jessica Simpsons can do that. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+14The reply button *****, do you use it?
And that doesn't change the fact that four or five years ago I had to control click to play around with layers in Photoshop on a Mac, nor the fact that fullscreen playback is one of the most basic features of a media player and it took how many years for Apple to give it away for free? - septicmadman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11I guess we all have different uses for our electronics...
- danakin, on 10/11/2007, -4/+14Neanderthals can use the internet? And they're on Digg?!
- kethraal, on 10/11/2007, -7/+17@ kawahee:
"Yes, like the latest OS X tech demo where the CD burning application smoked when it was burning?"
You realize that was 1) not a tech demo and 2) Not made by Apple.... right?
No? Then you get dugg down. - rohan2kool, on 10/11/2007, -5/+15with the photo of a used condom slapped on his laptop as its header.. the lamest type of anti-fanboyism. before calling it a rape, he should have just tried popping in the xp cd. *****.
- dymaxium, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10An uglier picture couldn't have been chosen either
- swOhio, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Jessica Simpson has a face? Never really paid attention to that part of her before...
- mallardtheduck, on 10/11/2007, -15/+251)That wasn't a tech demo, it was a third party application.
2)Right-click and fullscreen in Quicktime were implemented years ago. Unforunately Apple in their infinite wisdom decided that fullscreen was a "pro" feature in recent versions of Quicktime, an issue which has now been fixed.
Obviously you have never used a Mac (or at least have never used one with a two-button mouse connected hint:Ctrl+Click). - Julolidine, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12I think the new grouping/tabbing on compiz-fusion is a revelation. There are lots of times that I have many windows open, but mostly want to switch back and forth between two - like working with a spreadsheet and copying data from another program. Grouping the two windows together makes me so much more efficient, rather than alt-tabbing.
