- petereality, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12it was funnier when i didn't get it
- TheTaoOfBill, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4The entire state of Georgia has one area code? That's pretty convenient.
- OMGWTFROFLMAOx2, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I said "a" as there are also 770, 706, 678, and some others. I think 404 is the one most commonly associated with the state though because it is the one most used for Atlanta. Kind of like 313 in michigan (detroit), 919 for north carolina, 215 for pennsylvania (philadelphia), etc.
- NeCtUr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The entire state of North Dakota is the 701 area code...
- aknowles5139, on 10/10/2007, -12/+103Very cool design. It would be nice to see more 404 pages as creative as this.

- aquadoctorbob, on 10/10/2007, -1/+53Don't do it! Someone would take a photo of the aftermath, and, in a horribly ironic twist, use it on a 404 page.
- Dundasbro, on 10/10/2007, -5/+2Wouldn't be ironic.
- Reziarfg, on 10/10/2007, -1/+33Sure it would, if it made for a better 404 page than this. That would mean he died in vain!
- Dundasbro, on 10/10/2007, -5/+2Wouldn't be ironic.

- bgfinkel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16so where's the rest?
- caffeineninja, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6That radar is hypnotizing me and trapping me in place. Kind of defeats the purpose of a 404 page, don't you think?
- gargantuan, on 10/10/2007, -2/+193I was sure i'd seen that somewhere before, then i remembered this....

- TomNorton, on 10/10/2007, -3/+16Yup, it is truly a rip-off.

- vampireblood, on 10/10/2007, -6/+6I can't believe someone went to such effort to put a flash animation with motion blur and focusing effects as their 404 error!
- spiffytech, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1If you could tolerate it not expanding to fit your browser, an animated .gif would work much better, as it would load faster.
- jon3k, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Yes a smaller graphic would load faster, thank you professor. Whether or not that is "better" is a matter of opinion.
(ps you'd have a hell of a time recreating the blur effect with animated GIF's by the way, and I seriously doubt you could do it and it still load faster than a swf)
- jon3k, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Yes a smaller graphic would load faster, thank you professor. Whether or not that is "better" is a matter of opinion.
- bmorrow, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I can't Believe anyone puts any effort in any 404 page. It's the one page you hope no one ever visits.

- Gamb10r, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Whats that saying when you invest that kind of time into a 404.
- MrMidi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6It's saying that you realize that some of your users may stumble across this page from a broken link on another site, or a search engine with your old content. Making sure your users can find their way and be informed is a good use of anyones time. This 404 page does not do much to help the user find their way, but I guess it is nice to look at.

- shavenlunatic, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1oops, accidentally buried this while switching between another article... ctrl+z doesn't work!
- dmoffitt, on 10/10/2007, -5/+23ugh, flash has NO PLACE on an error page. Not even close to being accesable - nevermind web standards, making me wait for an animation to see an error (assuming you CAN SEE vs needing a screen reader is DUMB.
- kingmoffa, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7agreed. Flash has no place on an error document.
- worthyashes, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0And the anti-flash guys are out again :(. If you use something like swf object to embed the flash and have alternative content then it is completely accessible to both screen readers and bots. Even if you do run the flash if you make sure you create it correctly it is picked up by both JAWs and Window Eyes. In fact flash is more accessible as you can expose the buttons you are using with Actionscript to the screen readers and they will read out to the users what each button does. Add into the mix keyboard controls and you've got something which is ultimately much more accessible. However if you guys want to live like you're in 1999 - go for it. Let the rest of us get the joke and also create cutting edge accessible websites that - shock horror - have flash on them. If you don't believe me check out the new BBC2 website. Lots of flash - and screen reader friendly

muppet! - dbking, on 10/10/2007, -4/+19dugg for using the microsoft category just because its about an error :P
- chriskeyes, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1But that doesn't make sense. Microsoft isn't the only software company exclusive to errors. Plus 404 errors aren't even exclusive to IE. Other browsers will come up with the same thing sometime. So why bother putting this in the Microsoft section?
- sammykeyes, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Yeah. I've come across some errors when using my Mac a few times before. Not like it was so hard to restart it or anything? What's with you people?
- dpowre, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1its a joke!! get over it!
- locodude, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Nice, but I would've been WAY better if it didn't rely on the user having the Flash-plugin installed.
- indorock, on 10/10/2007, -10/+6if you put this much effort into a 404 page, then you've got a problem.
1. a company should put all efforts into ensuring that 404's never occur
2. if they do occur for whatever reason, the error page should be light as hell, generating little bandwidth, and have some links to useful places on the site to help the user find their way again (home, sitemap, referring page, etc). This does link to the homepage, but it's not apparent enough.
This one is pretty, but fails in its function.- GregorCZ, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Wet towel much?
- TyCage, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Amen! Why on earth would you want to require flash for your 404 page. I should be able to view a 404 page with a text browser. They should also load quickly and give the user some information on what they might be able to do to fix the problem.
