- CharlesSaint, on 12/12/2007, -35/+359The only catch for getting Vista for free is you have to use Vista.
- spammishking, on 12/12/2007, -26/+254If you can't sell it give it away....
- doctordbx, on 12/12/2007, -49/+216Diabolical plan? It's called 'market research' and is designed to help them make it better.

UPDATE:
We have recently discovered that yesterday afternoon (12/11/07) Microsoft took away the freebie part of this offer (the software). However, Microsoft is still running the survey and 3-month feedback program. This means anyone who signed up after the cutoff is still going to be monitored, but recieve nothing in return for the forfeit of privacy. Microsoft apparently thinks your privacy isn't worth anything now.

- lordtyros, on 12/12/2007, -6/+42No.
- r00tus3r, on 12/12/2007, -7/+42You're downloading illegal copies of vista, and you're worried about your privacy? lol, oh the irony.
- nyw7070, on 12/12/2007, -4/+38We should all get copies set it up on it's own machine and run a script that repeats an action, by the end of their 3 months, they'll gather that the most common usage on vista is researching how to downgrade to xp, or better yet, teach cats kung fu...
really screw with them... it'll sorta be like one of those dedicated systems for folding@home, but instead it's foolingMS@home - JasonCox, on 12/12/2007, -16/+50Kids, either stop complaining about Vista or go back to Slashdot. Seriously, this crap is getting old.
- inactive, on 12/12/2007, -2/+34XP Users are eligible for the free gift as well.
- nixfu, on 12/12/2007, -4/+36Yeah, and just because McDonalds sells more food each year does not make the food a good as Ruth's Chris.
- inactive, on 12/12/2007, -0/+31Even better than a spare PC sucking up electricity:
VMWare FTW! - inactive, on 12/12/2007, -3/+32So where do i sign up. Seriously. I hate vista but office 07 is sweet and i dont mind giving up a little privacy because i got nothing to hide (Except for the 4 gigs of torrented porn)
- PrometheusZero, on 12/12/2007, -12/+39What, free as in Linux Free? No, silly, free as in Microsoft Free.
- Etchii, on 12/12/2007, -4/+29Free vista & the chance to make a M$ employee cry at the disgusting and outrageous porn I'm into.... awesome.
- SpicyViper, on 12/12/2007, -1/+25bill gates is a perv and he's totally into you.
- capecodcarl, on 12/12/2007, -6/+28Because one is legal and one is illegal? Have you kids been so corrupted by your rampant piracy of intellectual property that the lines between right and wrong have been blurred?
- inactive, on 12/12/2007, -4/+26Yes it does watch you. Superfetch watches you to see what programs you use the most and then pre-caches them into memory allowing them to open quicker. That's probably not what you're referring to, though.
- stupidStan, on 12/12/2007, -8/+30I don't understand how 95% of the posts dis MS, while I would guess 90% of the posters run MS... is it cool to trash MS?
- inactive, on 12/12/2007, -0/+22I do, once I get my copy and delete the virtual machine it's running on.
- noahhoward, on 12/12/2007, -5/+25Never used Linux huh?
- wvdavis, on 12/12/2007, -5/+24Who says they will actually stop monitoring you after three months?
- zomgz, on 12/12/2007, -18/+37i have better things to use a spare pc for than scammin for a copy of vista that i can grab for free fully working/cracked in 30 min off of 200000 different websites.
edit.... that is if i was actually clueless enough to want to run that winme wannabe crap OS. - goingtoalpha, on 12/12/2007, -2/+21Unless you get good grades.
- Fafnir43, on 12/12/2007, -6/+25Yeah. It's so commercially successful they've been forced to offer downgrade licenses to XP. That's how successful they are.
Seriously, most computers sold come with Vista these days. That means when Joe Average goes out to buy a new laptop, he gets a "free" copy of Vista, and Microsoft gets to record another "sale". I do not consider such "sales" to be a glowing endorsement of Vista's quality, especially since I've recently been stuck using it and - even compared to XP - it's a piece of *****. - noahhoward, on 12/12/2007, -3/+21Vista? Hilarious! Maybe Windows, but the only success Vista has had is selling copies in spite of itself.
- doctordbx, on 12/12/2007, -3/+21Buried for the ***** stupid reply.
- inactive, on 12/12/2007, -2/+20Good post until you included your mac fetish.
- LostRiot, on 12/12/2007, -3/+20indeed, and McDonalds can sell it,
so they don't give it away... - se1zure, on 12/12/2007, -7/+24meh, this can go on mny grandma's computer.
- inactive, on 12/12/2007, -4/+21sad to see you getting dug down. if this were a Mac/ Ubuntu article you would have 200+ diggs by now. anyway, i might check it out. have a spare pc that i use just as a private ftp.
- brstilson, on 12/12/2007, -13/+30Besides, games are for losers, anyway.
- rmany2k, on 12/12/2007, -2/+18I would do this but then they would see that I'm bootlegging XP.
- nixfu, on 12/12/2007, -6/+21Can you keep using XP?
- Solkre, on 12/12/2007, -1/+16Wait, there's copies of Vista fully working on the internet? I bought Ultimate 32bit legally and it certainly isn't "fully working".
/me waits for better sound support in games. - reparsed, on 12/12/2007, -0/+15Targeted hand lotion ads.

They'll think that their userbase is full of sick people. - Fafnir43, on 12/12/2007, -2/+14It's amazing how readily one can change the world by insulting random people on the internet, isn't it?
- GeorgeStone2, on 12/12/2007, -2/+14Yes.
- brasso, on 12/12/2007, -0/+12US only.
