- TheOneGreatX, on 10/11/2007, -2/+81The operating system is not necessarily pirated, someone might have just not activated it.
- Ishywoo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+67They give me mp3's for 10 cents, Maria Sharapova, and now they are running pirated copies of Windows on their ATM machines? +10 diggs for Russia.
- tidu, on 10/11/2007, -0/+50I agree. Arbitrary Digg users deserve random praise in irrelevant comments.
- meshman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+49Any properly pirated copy of Windows would have the activation cracked.
- tidu, on 10/11/2007, -4/+33I had to google Maria Sharapova... +100 diggs for Russia!
- nicpedersen, on 10/11/2007, -0/+27agreed. not pirated.
- munkyxtc, on 10/11/2007, -2/+29needing activation != pirated.
- Shuk, on 10/11/2007, -7/+31In Soviet Russia, Windows pirates YOU! (and your bank account)
Sorry I couldn't help it! - speaker219, on 10/11/2007, -2/+21Every copy of Windows needs to be Activated.
Just because it hasn't been activated yet doesn't mean it's a pirated copy of Windows... - Atom, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16All of my uh friends pirated copies of windows have activation stripped out of them or are VL editions... If this was truly pirated I doubt that would have even popped up.
- blackfog, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15Bumped down for obviously not being a pirated copy, just some slacker who didn't activate the OS before deploying it.
- msgyrd, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14Agreed. WGA has a pretty significant false positive rate also. A copy of windows needing to be activated still doesn't immediately mean it's pirated. On my campus, we have labs with computers that have this problem sometimes when they reimage the disk, even though they're legit installs.
- speaker219, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11needing activation ≠ pirated
- sully213, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I am more inclined to think that this is a WGA false positive. I've run into that a few times at work and I _know_ that they were not pirated.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7In Soviet Russia, dozen jokes in post ***** you!
- samsims, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5I bet their nuclear weapons run on pirated windows too
- Zippo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4An ATM running Windows? Yeesh, remind me never to do banking in Russia.
- BESTenemy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4 On the contrary, the fact that it awaits activation is an indication that the system's not pirated. Cracks allow users to bypass activation. If it was cracked, the message wouldn't even be there.
It's negligence on behalf of those that performed the installation. - djSyndrome, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4They run on PS2's, remember?
- th3heretic, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6If it was pirated it would say 30 days till activation... Every day. Someone was just lazy
- sexybobo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4corporate edition/volume licensing doesn't need to be activated.would such if every time a company installed windows on a pc you had to activate it. i work at a small college and it would be bad enough if we had to add an extra 10 minutes per computer when we image a lab.
i would think a bank would use volume licensing instead of buying individual copies per atm
the bigger problem is that since it isn't activated it doesn't get updates. so a bank is using an unpatched version of xp. Oh the horror - lateralus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3done, but only if you promise to digg me up.

"This isn't pirated, all Windoze ***** require activation of their gay tracking because they're paranoid. Buried for inaccurate. Go ahead digg me down."
Activation is so that Microsoft can track you? It sends non personally identifiable information. And you're calling Microsoft paranoid? You people with your lame ass justifications for pirating software or bypassing activation really need to shut the f*** up and grow up past age 13. You people who have such a problem with activation are the ones that are paranoid because you don't want Microsoft to find out that you pirated their software -- and to top it off you're all stupid for even thinking they'll find you since it doesn't send Microsoft any information about who the hell you are.
You're a ***** Windows basher and that's the extent of it. On top of that, you're a Windows basher who pirates Windows software (don't tell me I'm making assumptions .. I'm not stupid and I can see right through you're lameness) and then bitches when Microsoft tries to keep their software from being pirated.
Why don't you get off of Digg, go buy cheap, used, and faulty computer parts, overclock it, put mismatched RAM in it, then bitch about Windows crashing. That would at least put you in line with most other Windows bashers without us having to hear the tired old crap about activation.
Get a ***** job, you sorry, paranoid, software pirating, herd-following, slashdot ass-licking lamer.
You're right though, just because the ATM isn't activated, doesn't mean it's pirated. - veriix, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3If there's a messege saying "Your copy of windows is not genuine" there's a good chance its pirated, odds are this machine just needs to be activated, at most it's using a deactivated key (like the ones dell, hp, toshiba, ect.. use). When you reload it with an oem disk you have to phone it in to activate.
- djSyndrome, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3This PSA is brought to you by the Department of Redundancy Department.
- dontbejack, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4You're a bit late there, aren't you?

Only about 10 comments have said that already. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Most Diggers are out of contact with popular culture and especially with RIAA artists and songs. We have our own culture EG(In soviet russia jokes).
You must be new here. - xtmno3, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2@quik22 (#7083745)
Something invented by the American Dodgeball Association of America. One of their other popular inventions is the Anti-Personnel Mine Mine (courtesy of BF2142). - cloudyskies41, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2ATM stands for "automatic teller machine." the trailing "machine" is not necessary. Otherwise, you'd be saying "automatic teller machine machine." It's common mistake.
- tidu, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I sadly accept avihappy's comment... :'(
- kgerm, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2i was waiting for the *in Russia* ,joke. good job.
- kilps, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Digg me down ... but an atm running windows? I woulda thought that a completely locked down custom made thing would be safer...
- OCedHrt, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Here's food for thought:
Why are they running an English copy of Windows? - MichaelBradley, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2It appears we have all established this isnt a pirated copy...
- theholycow, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1What? What's wrong with the Automatic ATM Machine where you have to type your Personal PIN Number?
- VinceNoir, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Rah rah!!! Let's all hear it for that MrBabyMan!!! Yea MrBabyMan!!!!! (Come on folks this is great humor, mod up as needed otherwise remove the pole from your ass as is might help you to better appreciate things that are truly funny instead of Must See TV.)
- volatileacid, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Lame title, for lame people to digg without reading.
I think some people Digg for the sake of almost in a sense - bookmarking something to visit it later.
Marked as innacurate which this is. This isn't a pirated version, and if the submitter didn't glorify the title, this wouldn't be front page. - raynar, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive and Dodge
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1In Soviet Russia, windows pirates you!
- Universal, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Sorry guys, I didn't notice that it was in fact not a pirated copy of Windows, but one just needing activation. I didn't do it on purpose just to get to the front page, sorry :-(
There are some things that just take longer to notice than others.
Somebody slap me :-(
As a result, I will honestly bury this story as inaccurate. - spamly, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Am I the only person that noticed the picture of Minneapolis at the bottom of this article? Aren't these supposed to be Russian picture?
- mal1964, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1anyone know where another cash machine is close by?
- spearce, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Well at least I'm not the only one..........brb somebodies at the door.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2its not pirated it just hasnt been activated yet
- hbpencil, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1ATM machine = automatic teller machine machine
- rizzo623, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I have been reading Digg for a week now and i havnt found any better way to waste my day at work! Can i get a Digg for that?
- clickwir, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Not.... EVERY copy. Every legitimate, untampered with copy maybe. But not every copy.
- M3RCINIAN, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1How is it pirated? This story is inaccurate... just because it hasn't been activated yet DOES NOT mean that it has been pirated. Buried.
- quik22, on 10/11/2007, -5/+4tidu,
