- suxmonkey, on 10/10/2007, -10/+125The "quotes" in the "headline" have me worried.
- BlackCow, on 10/10/2007, -30/+127And cue the apple and XP fanboys to bash Vista for no real reason except they are fanboys.
- justice7, on 10/10/2007, -8/+82No he's right in a way.. there are XP zealots who are afraid of change -- not necessarily for any particular reason why they hate on vista.
I guess nobody remembers back when XP was first released.... the "Win2K Zealots" took hold. - omarciddo, on 10/10/2007, -10/+65You know, WGA is really a joke. I won't lie, my Vista is pirated, but it still validates.
- datdamonfoo, on 10/10/2007, -4/+59Your computer will sleep with you?
- mike2312, on 10/10/2007, -9/+54About damn time!
- norman619, on 10/10/2007, -1/+41Will they add a cuddle feature too?
- Ramble, on 10/10/2007, -1/+40For anyone who installed the beta versions that were leaked about a week or so ago, they're exactly the same as this.
- cawpin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+39Win2K Zealots --> XP zealots
same people - MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -3/+38Obviously roberto you weren't around when OS X was first released. Both 10.0 and 10.1 were damn near useless with few native apps and everything running on OS 8-9 slow as hell in emulation mode. I played with it and decided to stick with the classic Mac OS until it was useful. 10.2 Jaguar was the first one worth a damn and the first one I bothered to purchase.
Having said that, why the hell are you bringing up OS X in a Vista post? Grow up. - MonsterChaOS, on 10/10/2007, -8/+43I installed this about 2 weeks ago (neowin) and it does infact help. Vista still has a good ways to go before I consider it as stable as XP, but this is a great start.
- wafflez, on 10/10/2007, -2/+34no one cares fanboy. That has NOTHING to do with this article.
- SonnyW, on 10/10/2007, -1/+29You mean worried, or "worried"?
- Monk22, on 10/10/2007, -3/+29thats weird my SP0 Vista install just enabled me to digg you down
- Alegis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+27iTunes for windows is always horrible.
for last.fm - get the plug-in for whatever audio program you use. - chalkboy, on 10/10/2007, -11/+36Have you used vista? It is much easier to use. It is better then xp in almost every way. I love the new start menu the way you can tag pics. It is really a nice OS
- Ramble, on 10/10/2007, -2/+27If you can tell us what's horrible about it then maybe some of us can help.
- Alegis, on 10/10/2007, -8/+33I find it definitely more stable than XP - have yet to expect slowdowns or a single crash since using RTM in november.
Things that worry me is the file transfer speed. Moving large files between HD's takes longer than usual, which is why I use TotalCommander for those. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -6/+30:( Actually vista works very well for me! I just had to put 2gb of ram on this machine which isnt really that damn expensive :p
I never tried mac or linux but i really think vista is a nice OS and i never had a driver problem so far - dmoney22, on 10/10/2007, -3/+26It puts the D drive in the A drive.
- btgoss, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24No... but they have perfected the uncomfortable silence...
- justice7, on 10/10/2007, -1/+22i had just reinstalled my copy of vista recently -- and it (even without this update) appears to be working FAR better than it had before with the latest updates.
I have run into the dead TCPIP problem once or twice as well, i'm happy to see that resolved. Also with gaming performance being enhanced, i'm all for that. If there is a negligable difference between the speeds on XP and Vista, i may stay in Vista. We'll see, though. - RogerStrong, on 10/10/2007, -7/+28Not when it was released, it didn't. Vista worked a lot better on release, and now a few months later, than OSX did.
- norman619, on 10/10/2007, -5/+24I suspect you are one of the idiots I used to talk to when I worked helpdesk blaming the OS for a USER issue. Most of the time you can find the cause of most comuter problems sitting in front of the computer. Nothing worse for a computer than an ignorant user.
If you are trying to run Vista on an underpowered machine that is YOUR fault. I have been running Vista for a while now on a nice machine and guess what? It's been pretty damn reliable for me. - armbar, on 10/10/2007, -5/+24Ok, I'm no fanboy, and Vista has its problems, but...
1. You can go back to "Classic view" in the control panel. Personally, I like the layout--it's more organized and clearly labeled.
2. Just because something has more options doesn't make it cluttered. Also, you can actually browse around sibling folders and all the way up to the top without moving. Sounds like an improvement to me. Otherwise, you can adjust it to meet your needs.
3. Any examples of this? If you say anything made by Novell, or Lotus Notes, I'm going to kick you in the nuts.
4. My experience, along with most others, has been the opposite.
5. This is because the default options on power management require more power. You can change this.
7. You can turn these off by disabling UAC, as long as you keep up on security updates and don't open unknown attachments in emails. - fpcyber, on 10/10/2007, -3/+22So my computer will actually sleep with me having to turn on my screen, I just thought it was a driver error somewhere. Great!
- pagefaultca, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20SP3 was released to beta testers along with SP1 for Vista. Expect to see in the fall.
- gotamd, on 10/10/2007, -3/+21No, it's not really a joke. Legitimate users such as myself have to deal with it and all of the headaches it brings.
- twrife, on 10/10/2007, -22/+39I'm afraid to install it for fear it will mess something else up.
- ricodued, on 10/10/2007, -6/+23You're computer illiterate, yet you're here? .. What?
- chalkboy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19What exactly is wrong with it?
- Phocion55, on 10/10/2007, -24/+40There's XP fanboys now!?
I guess not seeing Vista having a clear advantage over XP makes me a bad person..... - Ubish, on 10/10/2007, -2/+17dude we get it, you are an apple fanboy. Doesn't mean you have to reply with the same message 3 times.
- jason469, on 10/10/2007, -5/+20I laugh at all of the Vista haters, I bet a lot of them haven't even given Vista a a real try. Keep it installed for longer than a few days before talking crap about it. Vista is much more user friendly than XP.
People complaining about Aero can switch it to the Windows 95 look. I never cared for the XP look, and I think Aero beats the hell out of the XP look, but I never used either of them, I just use the 95 look.
Vista will get better with time, why even bother to argue about it? almost everyone thought XP was trash when it came out too. - maskedm564, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15It took them long enough. My file transfers were so bad that I avoided moving large files around my drives just because of that. Sometimes it wouldn't even move the files. I would just get the estimating time message forever.
- schnikies79, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15I have not seen a BSOD in XP for years. My desktop never crashes, my notebook never crashes. Ever.
XP is and has been extremely stable. If there is a BSOD, it's hardware/drivers. - MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16and now with your third comment that is exactly the same as your other two, you show the reason why there are so many stupid comments in Mac threads.
You give Mac users a bad name. - tubeblender, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15Beat me to "it".
- bfdhud, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13I don't know if you're being serious or not, if you are. You can get them back by right clicking on start
- Akaji, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13Tourette's much?
- norman619, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14LOL!!! Yet another piece of BS.
- Dan000892, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14wow, you must be PISSED that your name is Michael Bolton!
- NismoDrift, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11iTunes for windows is horrible for all Windows, but I do find that it runs more faster and performance wise on Vista in my experiences, I don't know how to work out the last.fm plugin.
- Darth_tater, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12If anybody is interested in slipstreaming these packs, they can be directly DL'd from here
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=938979
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=938194 - mikesbaker, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11get a better pirated copy
- ronaldb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11It takes 15 minutes, because half that time is spent "trying" to calculate the time remaining.
Do or do not, there is no try. - nuclearpenguins, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12Who makes your tinfoil hats, Jobs or Torvalds?
- Monk22, on 10/10/2007, -4/+14my vista at work and home hasnt crashed once. this was my only gripe the file transfer speed. if this is fixed than linux can suck it.
- tubeblender, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11It's pretty.
- pagefaultca, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Yeah the MD5 is the same on them.
