- peabody624, on 04/15/2009, -13/+191Already looked sweet, now it has the specifications to match!
- geoken, on 04/15/2009, -8/+157How are Xbox games which are built to use 2 analog controllers, 2 analog thumbsticks and at least 4 buttons going to transfer over to a button-less touchscreen device?
That part seems like wishful thinking to me. - BoostingBlue04, on 04/16/2009, -21/+155And the best part is, you don't need iTunes to sync it!!
- rishdeep, on 04/16/2009, -8/+119OLED screen? Nice. What's annoying is the fact it's only available in 16 and 32GB versions. What was great about the original Zune was that it filled a gap that the iPod Classic nor Touch had filled - a large hard drive (120gigs) with a good sized screen. I like having lots of music and videos on my player without having to delete stuff off it to drag new stuff on. 32GB is nice but not quite enough for me, especially if you are going to put HD quality video on there, it'll fill up pretty quickly.
- thegamingguy, on 04/15/2009, -10/+85Wish List: Xbox Games (in article), Xbox Marketplace Integration, NetFlix, and since this is a wish list, satellite radio.
- DocDrea323, on 04/16/2009, -5/+72I'm glad that Microsoft is trying to be somewhat ahead of Apple with the Zune. The iPod/iPhone needs competition. Serious competition. I say that as an iPhone owner. The more other companies do, the more Apple has to do to stay ahead of the game. It's a win for consumers.
However, assuming it has some sort of HD screen in it, what will the battery life be on it? Sure, being the most advanced player in the field is great, but sometimes, it's just more of a hindrance. Sure, it might not be a success, but if Apple feels threatened, they'll try to stay ahead of it. If it's got bad battery life, they won't worry about it. - BugMeNot2, on 04/16/2009, -2/+68Maybe Xbox-level graphics.
There was a Tegra demo that showed it running Quake 3 at 800x480 with anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering at 35 FPS. - roxgod666, on 04/16/2009, -4/+65You thought wrong.
- LaoSoup, on 04/15/2009, -15/+66Needs bluetooth for my headphones.
- randall814, on 04/15/2009, -5/+55Definitely a good looking device. I tend to sway toward Apple, but I hope they're taking notes on Microsoft's possible integration of HDMI. Both devices should be fully capable to do 720p video out. Maybe Microsoft can add an app store of some sort in the future. Or perhaps some version of the XBox Live Arcade... they could port some of the games to the touch interface similar to Apple with their touch devices.
- krystalo, on 04/16/2009, -2/+49Microsoft hasn't confirmed anything yet. Here's a roundup of what different websites are saying: (notice that some rumors conflict)
http://arstechnica.com/microsoft/news/2009/04/roun ...
Yeah I reazlie everyone here hates blog spam, but it's just a good roundup of all the different rumors. So read over it first, then digg me down. - pensivewombat, on 04/16/2009, -1/+47I can't imagine that they mean full xbox games, but probably something akin to the xbox live arcade stuff. Geometry wars would be pretty sweet.
- freehunter, on 04/16/2009, -0/+40Ars is not blogspam.
- YoWhatDaFuxUp, on 04/16/2009, -10/+45Zune Phone is next
- Brew, on 04/16/2009, -8/+42OLED? If this is true either the price is going to be outrageous or they are going to be losing some serious money.
- Jeepinator, on 04/16/2009, -5/+38iTunes Windows SUCKS.
- handheldchimp, on 04/16/2009, -3/+31Over9000 Microsoft points...
- rehwaldt, on 04/16/2009, -12/+39Go Zune Go........I love my Zune.
And the Zune marketplace is better than the itunes store. Try it and see. - byronm, on 04/16/2009, -2/+29It may get netflix.. after all, Microsoft is the technology partner doing netflix's backend and encoding. IF this device gets flash or silverlight then hot damn
- SuperJimmyJimbo, on 04/16/2009, -6/+31If this has hulu and netflix, I'm buying.
- JamesBrown, on 04/16/2009, -5/+29Have you tried Zune software? It's pretty nice, I think. Straightforward and easy to use (unlike say WMP). Snazzy looking UI.
Of course I have an iPod so it's pretty useless to me. - DarkShroud, on 04/15/2009, -7/+30This thing looks amazing. Depending on the price it's either this or the 120 for me.
- byronm, on 04/16/2009, -0/+23If they Unify the zune marketplace from Windows 7 to the Xbox to Windows Mobile microsoft may finally "get it". Especially if they license the content so that if you buy a show on the xbox you get a zune version to sync up or rights or automatic syncing of that content so on and so forth.
- MI3Guy, on 04/16/2009, -4/+26Actually another source claims that there will be a 120 GB zune HD!
http://www.neowin.net/news/main/09/04/15/exclusive ... - chokeaduck, on 04/16/2009, -2/+21Have you ever listened to bluetooth compressed audio? Yeech.
- rolf, on 04/16/2009, -1/+20OLED screen is very nice too.
- StandardsDT, on 04/16/2009, -5/+23Don't know what your talking about. The Zune Desktop software is pretty awesome, now the first version of the software, well that's an entire different story!
- erzhaosong2000, on 04/16/2009, -3/+20Since this is a wish list, unicorns.
- DarkShroud, on 04/16/2009, -7/+24You seem to have that backwards as Apple is the DRM whore when it comes to music and their devices.
- 80hd, on 04/16/2009, -3/+20I think they wanted to borrow some of the HD hype that has swept the TV market, realized it's not feasible to cram a 1280x720 screen into something pocket-sized and decided to add an HDMI port so they can legally say it plays back HD content.
- datcrazydj, on 04/16/2009, -6/+23But what's the price?
- nullcodes, on 04/16/2009, -0/+17Text size being too tiny is a non-issue. Obviously text sizes can be enlarged appropriately.
- BlackJackJester, on 04/16/2009, -1/+17wifi streaming of music/video from a computer/xbox with the Windows media extender -possibly over the XBL network.
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 04/16/2009, -0/+16What I don't like about the iPod touch is the fact that I MUST convert videos into .mov in order for them to work.
Would be nice if the thing could play Divx out of box like the Zune. - Slackdragon, on 04/16/2009, -6/+21Want vs. Need. Or, I could integrate these two seeming diametrically opposed positions:
I WANT the Zune HD, and I NEED to support a flagging economy! Problem solved! If I get this, I'm doing my duty. - derektherock42, on 04/16/2009, -0/+14Don't you "need" Zune's jukebox instead of "needing" iTunes? Doesn't sound that great to me
- gk128, on 04/16/2009, -6/+20Needs more space. My Zune 80 is up for replacement, and I already have an iPhone. I really just want a good Zune with at least 80GB space. So come on MS... 32GB is not enough.
- pensivewombat, on 04/16/2009, -1/+15hmmm... my sarcasm meter seems to be malfunctioning. I have no way of evaluating this comment coming from a digg user.
- colincornaby, on 04/16/2009, -6/+20I'll believe it when I see it...
- Lane, on 04/16/2009, -2/+15OLED's have been used in MP3 players for years, phillips gogear had them, its just that they cant be made in large sizes cheaply. I doubt this adds much more than a LED lit screen.
- sageerrant, on 04/16/2009, -0/+13Probably... but an HDMI port is far better than nothing.
- zetec, on 04/16/2009, -0/+12I don't think you understand the difference between magnetic media and flash media.
- MrHawkins, on 04/16/2009, -1/+13OLED's are more expensive at size, but it's more of an exponential jump. So, hopefully not...
- Jeepinator, on 04/16/2009, -1/+13The thing would have to do better than full quality Quake 3. Halo:CE looks better than Quake 3 and it was one of the first Xbox games so we'll have to wait until the Tegra is bench marked with something a little better.
- savethehobos, on 04/16/2009, -3/+14at least 2 fingers and a toe.
I love my zune that I have now, but its pretty old. So getting a new one this fall would be pretty awesome. - Diosjenin, on 04/16/2009, -4/+15Minus the storage capacity...
I'll wait a generation or two until flash memory can actually support my music collection plus my podcast collection (which would not exist were it not for the Zune software making that available - HUGE props to MS for making 60 Minutes and every NPR show imaginable available to me when I can actually listen to them).
If I upgrade at all between now and then, it will be to the 120. Much as I would enjoy the features and the wow factor, if it can't fit my audio, it defeats its own purpose. - mrnathan, on 04/16/2009, -0/+10@ChinezePanda
Think they have ... as they mention it in their post. - AbbasJin, on 04/16/2009, -1/+11None of your wishes will be granted since they're done with the product. now they're just giving it some final touches before they flood the markets with those.
Remember, you see leaked photos when these companies Apple/MS want them to leak out to earn them free advertisement. - myempyrean, on 04/16/2009, -1/+11flash drive + oled = minimal power
- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -1/+11The only thing I can think of would be if they sold like a cheap shell peripheral or something to snap onto the bottom and use as a controller for games. Too many inputs on the Xbox controller to translate to a non-tactile touch interface.
