- digitalarcanum, on 01/26/2008, -28/+133***** all you biased peckerheads on digg. apple posts awesome first quarter earnings and it's stock immediately plunges due to not living up to investor hype yet microsoft's net income skyrockets and all they get is flak?
to all the naysayers: ***** you. - Ev3nt372, on 01/26/2008, -55/+152Apple Sucks! digg me down
- hmunkey, on 01/26/2008, -10/+107They charged 20 ***** dollars for the iTouch software update. MS gave Zune updates for free.
- DraconWolf, on 01/26/2008, -21/+115Please. Vista may not be incredibly revolutionary but it isn't a BAD OS by any means. I run it on my home office PC (for paying bills, emails, light work) and I have absolutely zero complaints. It isn't as bad as people make it out to be.
- inactive, on 01/26/2008, -23/+111More money for Bill Gates to donate to charity. Less money for the smug ***** named Steve Jobs.
- secondwheel2, on 01/26/2008, -14/+95From the NYtimes:
"Microsoft’s game console and software business, helped by the best-selling Halo 3 title, has become profitable for the first time."

Everything seems good for Microsoft - vinnyvenus, on 01/26/2008, -18/+89I have my problem but they are in no way Microsoft's fault. Majority of my problems happen because of poor driver support for Vista for which Microsoft is not responsible.
- InorganicMatter, on 01/26/2008, -14/+78Maybe their products (Vista, Office, Xbox360) aren't as bad as people claim they are.
I personally am running several copies of Vista at home, and it runs perfectly fine as long as it's got something around a Pentium 4 with 1GB of RAM. The minimum system requirement are deceivingly exaggerated, as are the reports of people going back to XP. Dig deeper into any of the Vista horror stories on the internet and you'll find the person is trying to run Vista with all the eye candy on an 800MHz Duron with 512MB of RAM and a Radeon 7500. - orbit1979, on 01/26/2008, -16/+80Speak for yourself, Vista works just fine for me. Have a nice day!
- hmunkey, on 01/26/2008, -6/+67He's angry because Apple fanboys always jump to conclusions saying Apple rocks and MS sucks, when it is usually the other way around based on earnings.
- robo65, on 01/26/2008, -15/+74I agree with you. Even the new laptop, air is not living up to the expectations. Who would spend over a grand on one, when it's got less features than a laptop for half price.
- secleinteer, on 01/26/2008, -8/+57Though I don't like Apple or Microsoft (I primarily use Linux), I have to say that Microsoft is definitely the lesser of the two evils. Imagine what computing would be like if Apple had the majority market share instead - complete platform lock-in, both in terms of hardware and software. They would have complete control over the market. Apple seems to be a lot more DRM-inclined than Microsoft, who has made its operating system work on open standards, allowing anyone to build a computer that is Windows-compatible. Apple, on the other hand, forces you into their hardware and software ecosystem; you cannot (legally) obtain one without the other. Using/installing OSx86 is even more of a pain than using/installing Linux, and before Apple moved to Intel processors, running other OS's on it was a pipe dream.
- din100, on 01/26/2008, -20/+68Vista is a Solid OS, I have no issue using it, businesses will take time to move on to new os as they always did. I don’t know how many vista bashers actually used that OS.
From windows 98 every OS MS released people said the same thing year in year out. I remember reading people complaining about xp as it didn’t offer any thing more than win2k etc
I’m happy with vista so did many people I know. - networkjedi, on 01/26/2008, -10/+55Glad to hear that Microsoft did well, tired of apple and their fan base saying how Microsoft is going under. I'll back apple the day that they untie their OS from the hardware, until then I'll stick with Microsoft & Ubuntu.
- brnagi, on 01/26/2008, -8/+52I agree, even as a hardcore iPod lover the Zune is looking really good.
- convergent, on 01/26/2008, -18/+57I just got Vista and I'm surprised. It's actually pretty decent and really isn't a memory hog (might be because i have 2gb of ram). Most people who bash Vista probably haven't even used it.
- marko718, on 01/26/2008, -8/+46Maybe it's the reports of people abandoning Vista that are exaggerated.
- bacio, on 01/26/2008, -8/+46because if you do buy a mac, Steve jobs will to beat off in your face, as an added bonus
- digitalarcanum, on 01/26/2008, -6/+43well, to give a quick summary here you go
Apple user: Well, look like Apple pulls of record profits once again! Suck it M$ drones
Windows user: Well, it's not that hard to pull off record earnings when your marketing team can make ***** look like an innovative product.
Apple user: lol you're just jealous because Apple is superior
Windows user: right, so that's why apple operating systems have nearly as many patches as windows. that's why your phone still doesn't have an SDK. that's why I can find a cheaper mp3 player that does everything the ipod does (excluding the touch) but better.
Apple user: lol, viruses
Windows user: lol AVG. Lol, lack of games.
TL;DR: I'm tired of apple users claiming a false superiority over PC users when their company posts record profits. it's not hard to get ungodly profits when your hardware is as marked up as it is (macbook air). Also the Mac VS. PC commercials make me throw up a little. - acdcfanbill, on 01/26/2008, -10/+45I don't quite know why you seem so angry, but you have conviction, so I'll mod you up.
- viciv, on 01/26/2008, -13/+47people hate vista simply because it's made by microsoft
- fLUx1337, on 01/26/2008, -19/+52Vistas fine here, been using it since the early betas, its gone from a really buggy experience, to (with SP1 RC installed) a very nice experience in which I would never go back to XP...
No where near as good as it could have been, but then again, its an OS, its meant to be the backbones for all other applications, and it does a mighty fine job.... - kendawg, on 01/26/2008, -3/+35Just to piss people like you off.
- DarkShroud, on 01/26/2008, -8/+37More like the reports of people going back to XP being exaggerated.
- dechah, on 01/26/2008, -29/+57This is great news for Microsoft and its shareholders. From a personal perspective, I really enjoy using Vista and use it exclusively now over my OS alternatives like OS X.5 and XPSP2 or Ubuntu on two desktops and one laptop. My Emac And iMac hardly get used these days, except by the kids so that they can use some edu software we bought for them.
Vista gives me a better overall computing experience than any other OS currently available for my particular computing needs. My wife and kids love it too. - inactive, on 01/26/2008, -8/+36I've got nothing negative to say about Windows. I walked away from it because I was bored with the OS. Now, I am a happy Linux user. It brought back to me that tinkering spirit I once had with computers that I seemed to have lost over the years because Windows did everything for me. I gave up control for laziness. Now, with Linux, I am actively interested and involved with my OS. I really do enjoy the kind of control and diversity I have with my OS. Rather than be an "applications user", I am now back into those old warm shoes that I call "technology enthusiast!"
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 01/26/2008, -8/+36I found Vista was pretty good. Used it since the release day last feb.
Switched back to XP since a directX app that I was developing wasn't working right with my Geforce.
(Even though everyone elses products seemed to work just fine)
Going back to XP I immediately noticed that the age was showing.
Vista makes XP look about ten years old.
It doesn't make any sense for newer computers to be running XP at this point. - Flaaron, on 01/26/2008, -3/+30It's obviously not using the entire 2 GB. I'm running Vista on 512 MB right now and there's no lag at all.
There's nothing wrong with Vista, it just doesn't beat XP by leaps and bounds, which makes it difficult to justify the cost of upgrading for many people. - superyounan1, on 01/26/2008, -2/+28Vista i'm not so crazy about, but Office is very good software, and I think that the .NET platform and the visual studio IDE are the best products Microsoft has ever created, so my appreciation for the Operating systems only goes as far as my appreciation for .NET and Office.
i still use linux most of the time though, but I doubt I will be able to escape using windows regularly as long as I'm perusing a software developer position - hmunkey, on 01/26/2008, -7/+31Well yes, it is slow on ***** pcs. OSX has pretty heft requirements too, but Apple makes the hardware as well.
- h3lx, on 01/26/2008, -4/+28How does this question make it into every thread?
- Dylson, on 01/26/2008, -6/+30Yeah, that really pissed me off. Apple is going south fast and, once again, their ego is getting the better of them.
- Endar, on 01/26/2008, -9/+31Ive been using Vista for a couple of months now and Ive had no major issues. It isn't the worst OS ever made like some people like to pretend, it has some problems but what doesn't.
- SLockhart, on 01/26/2008, -9/+31I've been running Vista for over 6 months with 2GB of RAM and I've never had a single problem with it.
- InorganicMatter, on 01/26/2008, -10/+30Maybe it's time to try Vista on some relatively new hardware, instead of baselessly bashing it from your Ubuntu-powered AMD Turion that you're too cheap to upgrade...
- AlienMushroom, on 02/21/2008, -11/+31time to invest some green gold on decent hardware.
- dechah, on 01/26/2008, -9/+29You are either completely ignorant of the superb memory management technology built into Vista, or you are just a pathetic troll. So which is it, ignoramus or troll? Either way, your opinion counts for zero :-)
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 01/26/2008, -3/+22Vista uses more ram because it preloads your files and or programs into memory. It releases that used memory if it's needed by something else.
XP would leave that memory unallocated, unused. Vista is simply smarter than XP.
That's why it looks like it's hogging all the ram, it really isn't. - chugger1992, on 01/26/2008, -3/+22Mine runs fine under 1gb RAM and I have 2 virtual machines using a total of 512mb.
- YourMaster, on 01/26/2008, -3/+22Stock value is exactly equal to investor hype.
- TomK88, on 01/26/2008, -5/+24LOL and why should Microsoft develop a new OS and then give it away for free?
- CoronaVegas, on 01/26/2008, -16/+35I like Vista.
- Dylson, on 01/26/2008, -0/+18Functionality > Portablilty.
- Edrick, on 01/26/2008, -2/+20....you bought an emachine?
- LightSpeed4, on 01/26/2008, -1/+19Apple didnt amaze anyone, the ipod flopped in the fourth quarter, and they said their 2nd quarter expectations are *****
- Thumper13, on 01/26/2008, -6/+24You fail at Vista knowledge.
- TomK88, on 01/26/2008, -2/+20If you don't like it, don't buy it. Welcome to capitalism.
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 01/26/2008, -2/+19Considering the range of hardware that it supports... it seems they've made the impossible possible.
If they had to manage the extremely limited hardware variety that Apple has, then they would be far more stable and far more secure than even Apple.
They have invested far more time, effort and money than anyone, in stability, and security to the point that it's obscene. They also have a harder job than the rest due to the larger install base and hardware variety. - limpits, on 01/26/2008, -2/+18Seriously Tippis... how much more portable are you going to be carying something that is .3inches thinner and .4pounds lighter. If anything its actually less portable because you have to carry around a bunch of addons, you can't have a second battery, and if you try to rest it on top of something else you are carrying then its going to slide right off cuz its so light.
oh, and, there are a lot of usb devices that cant even plug into the usb port because of the fold-out "feature" in the macbook air. -
