- APHughes, on 10/12/2007, -21/+328This was pretty funny even if you are an apple fan
- merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -5/+125'cause the guys at microsoft's ad agency are the same guys who fix bugs in vista, right?
- Repeater2000, on 10/12/2007, -11/+92Pretty funny, take a joke Apple fans...
- cmiller1, on 10/12/2007, -21/+92whose comment was dugg down again flag?
- cyranthus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+67the marketing campaign for this should be "Show us your O face!"
- Lord_oftheTrons, on 10/12/2007, -11/+73"He trying to paint a picture that Apple is PO'd at this as much as he was!"
He did mention "Apple rolls eyes" which doesn't mean you are PO'd. I'm pretty sure the writer understood it was a parody, hence the boomerang comment.
It's like Apple hired you to troll digg, to try to promote Microsoft because they knew you would do such a horrible job at it. - LMaxey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+59Because the point of a parody is to have a fake product with pleasing colors right?
- gnarbuckets, on 10/12/2007, -3/+60Nah, it'd be way more navigable and coherent if that were the case.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+59I didn't really see that as a spoof of Apple, more of a spoof of themselves. Sort of like when they poked fun at themselves for what they'd do if they were designing the iPod packaging.

I thought it was hilarious when they came out with that. This oPhone thing though is a bit forced. - profOblivion, on 10/12/2007, -6/+57@flag564: "Did this clown even get from the 1st second that this was supposed to be a parody?"
Uh, yeah. He did. I think the phrase "just how we like our fake products" pretty much gives that bit away. - Jugalator, on 10/12/2007, -2/+49Hmm, what am I missing here... Is it Apple that rolls eyes or the Engadget writer? :-p
- FLaw, on 10/12/2007, -2/+47Is it normal that i think this is a neat idea for a phone?
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -2/+46omg I want 3-way pong on a phone!
The shape would make a crappy phone (obviously), but you know, the opening mechanism is pretty cool. - naio, on 10/12/2007, -10/+52Which bugs that I haven't witnessed yet (being using Vista Business for 2 months now)?
- TheProtested, on 10/12/2007, -3/+42@tcquad
you do realize that there not actually selling these things right? - prosinader, on 10/12/2007, -5/+43 ^^ Despite my obvious bias, I would agree that this was pretty funny. It reminds me of the parody that MS did about iPod packaging.
- fleetskeet, on 10/12/2007, -17/+53I'd block flag564, but I've never seen any of his comments higher than -4 before.
- Lane, on 10/12/2007, -4/+39i know its not real BUT does anyone else want one?
- Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -4/+38I have to agree with flag there, the apple ads do smack of ad hominim attacks and of being the bitchy girl trying to get back at someone.
seriously, none of their ads tell you ANYTHING about osx except for apparently windows sucks WHICH HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH OSX - MacParrot, on 10/12/2007, -9/+42"'cause the guys at microsoft's ad agency are the same guys who fix bugs in vista, right?"
GOD, I hope not! Though it might explain a few things
kidding kidding - kernco, on 10/12/2007, -7/+39Oh geez, this is starting to look like a Slashdot comment thread.
- flag564, on 10/12/2007, -34/+62"Apple fans get the joke"
And then you proceed to prove that they cant. - TheSwagger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29WOOOhOOOO! Now I can get windows mobile for my NINJA STARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Gunrun, on 10/12/2007, -4/+30I love that everyone is saying "oh so how does Microsoft have the time to do this but not fix bugs" and complain about Microsoft bashing Apple, and yet Apples current ad campaign is based solely on this notion.
- DivisibleByZero, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29"I think it's that Mac commercials bashing PCs are funny because there's a ring of truth to it."
What about the ones where the PC is upset because he can't run Vista without first getting some hardware upgrades. That's right folks, buy a mac today and it will never become obsolete! What a buy! - screwzluse, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29Flag, I think you're confused. I read the article and only got that Engadget wasn't taking it seriously. I'm positive they knew it was a joke and was making it sound like a joke. I think it's funny and you, sir, need to learn to take a break. I'm not a huge fan of the apple commercials but I'm not going to write a wall of text to show my concern over apple fans (I own an apple and run both OSX and Vista). Just calm yourself.
- Topher06, on 10/12/2007, -13/+39This unlike the constant deluge of "I'm a PC, I'm a Mac" ads where Apple marketers basically regurgitate the FUD found on Digg in their commercials. Apple commercials are not even original anymore because I already read the FUD first on Digg from Apple fanboys. Also the only people that think there is something wrong with Vista are the ones that are not using it.
Honestly, I think Microsoft is due a few shots back at Mac. - joe90210, on 10/12/2007, -10/+35I predict hundreds of steaming, butthurt apple fanboys
- gweedo767, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26Wow, talk about completely missing the entire point of the video. It is a promo for their "Adapt Your App" website for Windows Mobile 6 apps. The whole point of the Adapt Your App site is to give developers the tools they need to get their Mobile 5 apps ready for 6. The oFone idea presents this well and in a funny method. This isn't intended to mock the iPhone in any way. Move on people...
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsmobile/bb264320.aspx - MacParrot, on 10/12/2007, -6/+30"BREAKING NEWS: DIGG HATES YOU"
I don't hate flag. That's way too much emotion to spend on someone I don't even know aside from snarky anti-Apple comments. I didn't agree with him on much granted. If I really took what he said personally or felt he absolutely never had a point to make, I'd just block him.
Really guys, don't get so attached to a freaking tech site. In the long run, there's lots of other things to obsess over that might actually be worth it. - FyberOptic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22I love Microsoft's new prankster attitude. It's just like when they messed with the PS3 launches, giving out chairs to people waiting with a secret url to an Xbox website, and having the big boat sail down the river next to folks waiting, etc. This oFone 'commercial' even got a few chuckles out of me. So kudos to Microsoft for taking a lighthearted approach against the competition.
- cbreaker, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24@EmoSLWarrior:
Don't be that guy. All this proves is that some folks over there have a sense of humor, too. - Ramble, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21Ahahah. Genius.
- NYC10004, on 10/12/2007, -5/+24Bugs? I've haven't seen anything even remotely like that yet with mine.
- MacParrot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20I'm not sure what Apple or the iPhone (which I want no part of in its current configuration) had to do with this. Why would Apple "Roll their eyes" at an obvious fake product announcement? Frankly, I thought it was pretty funny especially when the Interface Engineer gets hit with the oFone after being thrown by someone else. But then I'm a fan of the Three Stooges and slapstick in general.
"Picture me as a Ballerina! What does this tell you?" Then he follows it with a "knowing" look. Too funny!
Regardless of who made it or why, bravo! Nice job. For everyone that thought it was a slap at Apple or Microsoft, get out more. - gcnaddict, on 10/12/2007, -21/+38@Flag564
BREAKING NEWS: DIGG HATES YOU - Dhalgren, on 10/12/2007, -6/+22"'cause the guys at microsoft's ad agency are the same guys who fix bugs in vista, right?"
No, that's Apple... They have like 5 employees that work on Leopard, the iPhone, and Advertising... - NuttySquirrel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17@themastersb
its msdn, not mdsn. - purdo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15
Remember when we all laughed at those Mac vs PC ads? It's the same thing! It's called a "joke".
Come on guys... it's a joke! you know... a joke.. guys?
Some of you people need to get over yourselves.. - shaka999, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Personally I want to see Microsoft to an
I'm an Xbox360 and I'm an Apple TV
That would be good for a laugh. - Kingfisherx, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Cripes you OS company fanboys are about as bad as the comic and film fanboys on AICN. Get a sense of humor they are just software companies, not the almighty Zeus!
- moisie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15I love the bit about putting the numbers where you want. "I like the number 1... down here!"
- Chronic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14because you must work for a company to post their URL in a video?
- digitalarcanum, on 10/12/2007, -5/+20How is Microsoft parodying the iPhone any different from the ***** that Apple pulls on a commercial-by-commercial basis with their mac vs. PC commercials? Or their key notes where they commonly rip on MS products every time they can? Double Standard much? Microsoft isn't allowed to make fun of the competition and call ***** on their product and MS's competition can? You mess with the bull and you get the horns.. as gnarled and deformed as they are.
- rdoger6424, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14there'd be more than 2 layers of comments
- flag564, on 10/12/2007, -37/+50"I think it's that Mac commercials bashing PCs are funny because there's a ring of truth to it."
The "im a mac" ads use many obvious exaggerations. Even Apple fans point that out.
"When Microsoft bashes Apple..."
#1 I fail to see where this bashes Apple. Can you let us in on where it does?
" it always feels like the unpopular kid desperately trying to come up with a witty comeback - "Oh yeah, well you're a stupid-head!"
#2 So you basically described Apple current TV ads seeing that Windows is far more popular than OSX - IAMSMRTK, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Aren't the mac ads pretty much a failure? People are identifying with the PC and think the mac guy is a snob.
http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/06/11/08/apple_ditches_mac_guy_in_new_ads.html - locnguyen, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16So much hate you have.
- darkever, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I was there at the conference when they showed the oPhone. It was meant to attack the issue of different devices with different resolutions and the means to program with this in mind. It wasn't meant to be this giant iPhone parody.
- PDelahanty, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13If there's one thing Microsoft does well, it's make parodies. The VW parody with Bill Gates getting a smelly computer from the side of the road was hilarious.
If there's two things that Microsoft does well, then I can't think of the second. -
