- 2Deluxe, on 06/17/2009, -3/+73Soapwhat?
- DarkShroud, on 06/17/2009, -1/+36Glad I'm not the only one.
- tspchen, on 06/17/2009, -3/+29I've never heard of Soapbox.
- RudeTurnip, on 06/17/2009, -0/+25Exactly.
- demonashes, on 06/17/2009, -21/+39Bing is right behind
- cramd, on 06/17/2009, -5/+23I have never heard of this before. I googled "Microsoft Soapbox", when I bet Microsoft would hope someone would "bing?" it. The first results went to videos.msn.com, I click the link:
YOUR BROWSER, OR OPERATING SYSTME ARE NOT SUPPORTED.
That was enough for me. Scale 'er back boys. - keviniskool, on 06/17/2009, -1/+19I don't know. A search that shows you serials before you even click on a site is really convenient.
- inactive, on 06/17/2009, -11/+29SoapBox failed before it started . Microsoft really pisses me off sometimes. They lack vision in many web 2.0 areas . The company is too fat and they have too many 'same thinkers' . They need to look at streamlining their talent, not just recruiting every geeza who's finished university, but people who think 'out of the box' and don't agree with everyone on the table. Sometimes complex is not the answer, simple is .
- seanoneil14, on 06/17/2009, -1/+18+1 for logic
- dfross, on 06/17/2009, -1/+17Dugg for accuracy.
- Flamekebab, on 06/17/2009, -2/+18A bit of a generalisation.. I can't say I've ever had an issue with Google being slow. I would think it'd be more to do with your ISP and/or contention ratio being made out of fail.
- tomato1324, on 06/17/2009, -3/+17i love how almost all of these comments are "never heard of it"
im in the same boat. lol @ microsoft - JasonCox, on 06/17/2009, -0/+13Just a note here buddy, Google wasn't the first search engine. Microsoft had search long before Google did and if anything they copied Yahoo!.
- inactive, on 06/17/2009, -2/+12Sensible comment makes sense.
- Peleus, on 06/17/2009, -2/+12Never even heard of Soapbox... why didn't they just buy Vimeo?
- netneutrality, on 06/17/2009, -6/+15Soapbox is a service rather than a site. It's a section of MSN video that highlights user-uploaded content: http://soapbox.msn.com
- liquisoft, on 06/17/2009, -1/+10I still get messages from MSN (on my brand new mac mini running Safari 4) which tell me the same thing.
My browser or my OS is not supported? In 2009? What is this mickey mouse *****? Browser incompatibility warnings should've died 6+ years ago. - id000001, on 06/17/2009, -2/+11Windows - copied Apple - Copied from Xerox
Internet Explorer - copied Netscape - copied from unix browser
MSN 'portal' - AOL - copied from compuserv
MSN Messinger - AOL IM - ICQ
Word - Wordperfect - Wordstar
Soapbox - youtube - That.. I have no come back for
Xbox - ( too many to list, mostly Playstation ) - they all copied from previous generation
Active Directory - Novell Directory Services - Can't think of anything.
Bing ( live ... etc. ) - Google - you know. - Sithlrd, on 06/17/2009, -2/+11Microsoft has a video site?
- ArthurSucks, on 06/17/2009, -0/+8Fail.
- AtomicRocket, on 06/17/2009, -1/+9I've been doing online video for over 3 years. I'm an expert. I speak at conferences. And even *I've* never heard of this "Soapbox."
Microsoft = FAIL - thunderforce, on 06/17/2009, -0/+8I've only seen soapbox at grocery stores....
- Taneth, on 06/17/2009, -0/+7Indeed, I've never heard of it either. And I work for a micro$oft partner.
- cyssero, on 06/17/2009, -1/+8That you're a fool?
- hockeyjay96, on 06/17/2009, -8/+15Next week's article, Microsoft gives up Google chase.
- Chirp08, on 06/17/2009, -1/+7What the ***** is MSN Video?
- pimperj, on 06/17/2009, -1/+7First i've ever heard of MSN Video too...
- KibibyteBrain, on 06/17/2009, -0/+6There is a huge difference. The secondary search market is worth billions of dollars to a player, they don't have to "win" for it to be profitable. On the other hand, even the market leaders in video can't make a profit at this point, so there is really no point in Microsoft fighting a hopeless battle against Youtube while bleeding money doing so.
- strictnein, on 06/17/2009, -1/+7Q4, 2008:
Google: $1.29 Billion in Profit
MS: $4.17 Billion in Profit
Who's made of money again? - ifruit, on 06/17/2009, -4/+9Set bing as my "homepage" for 2 days, went back to google.
- undercoverDrunk, on 06/17/2009, -5/+10Smart move guys. Smart move.
Technology consultants at RampRate Inc. project YouTube's operating losses this year at $174.2 million...
Can we quit IE while we're on a roll? - AdmiralAcbar, on 06/17/2009, -2/+7Also, Natal and the Wii are on complete opposite ends of the spectrum. They don't even use the same method for motion tracking.
- MicrosoftBob, on 06/17/2009, -1/+6Windows 7 looks just like OS X?
Makes me wonder if you've used either one. - JasonCox, on 06/17/2009, -1/+6This sucks to hear because who here can honestly say that YouTube has done anything good, except maybe "HD" videos, since the Google buyout.
- strictnein, on 06/17/2009, -0/+5I misread this: "Yeah, but much like Microsoft, Google is made of money."
Somehow "much like" became "unlike". - KillerMoth, on 06/17/2009, -3/+7Never heard of it before this article; probably why it failed.
- pcpimpster, on 06/17/2009, -1/+5Exactly, when I read the title I changed it to "Google gives up YouTube chase"
- kentifer, on 06/17/2009, -1/+5Google and Microsoft?
- PhairOh, on 06/17/2009, -2/+6I've actually been pretty impressed with bing. Results seem to be just as good as Google, sometimes better, and the presentation is nicer. Also I like the way the searches seem to know what it is you're searching for better than Google and show you relevant related information. I'm not sure if it's enough to get me to switch completely from Google as my default search (I've gotten too used to knowing exactly what kinds of keywords to put in to Google to get just what I want) but I'll definitely use it as an additional too.
- bashmohandesx, on 06/17/2009, -0/+4You are already on a PC why don't you just open a new tab for youtube, you lazy
- inactive, on 06/17/2009, -0/+390% of them are only flagged HD to get more views.
- adorkable81, on 06/17/2009, -1/+4Microsoft has a video website? Soapwhat?
So I did a search for it and it's video.msn.com
Pretty decent site with lots of content...
Let's see, click on some video. It named "See star through tattoo"... Nice!!!
Wait for the video
30 seconds commercial... ughhh,
***** YOU Microsoft, banner isnt enough for you? and now you make me sit through 30 seconds of stupid commercial to watch a 10 seconds clips? No ***** thanks!!!
Close down the tab. - DrDabbles, on 06/17/2009, -1/+4MS Marketing is notorious for not doing anything. Everybody keeps chipping away at them, and STILL they refuse to innovate in any major way.
- inactive, on 06/17/2009, -0/+2So...in your world, you ***** idiot...Google was the first search engine? Andby the way, Soapbox is nothing like YouTube. But while we are on the subject...the one who actually copiedf YouTube was Google. And htey failed to the point of having to buy them instead. And it was one of hte biggest blunders in the company's history. they will never make a penny in profit from the site.
- LeftsideChaos, on 06/17/2009, -2/+5I would've dug you up, except "Their products still suck rat testicles." isn't accurate, its just that some of their services aren't as good as the ones already in existence.
- MWeather, on 06/17/2009, -0/+2The sad thing, Microsoft even tested out this strategy with their Mojave ads, yet people still think Microsoft would never just re-brand a Vista service pack as a new OS.
- DarkShroud, on 06/17/2009, -2/+4IE still has a 70%+ world wide majority.
- EllisSpice, on 06/17/2009, -11/+13Dugg for Microsoft FAIL!
