- EtherGnat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12I frequently defend Microsoft on Digg, but there might be some merit to this concern. Jellyfish currently has the best customer support of any company I've ever dealt with. Not only are the support representatives friendly, they go above and beyond in resolving problems. When a large number of people bought an Xbox game that sold for free due to a glitch, they honored the sale. When Comfort 1st shipped me the wrong item and Jellyfish couldn't immediately rectify the problem, they refunded my money and allowed me to keep the shipped item. The owners and staff frequently stop by the chat room to see how things are going and listen to feedback.
There are no guarantees that things will get worse with Microsoft as owners (hopefully they'll keep a hands-off attitude), but it's highly unlikely they'll get better. - manfrin, on 10/10/2007, -4/+13Yes, because as their current track record shows, they are out to ruin all their products!

Please keep your FUD to the apple section. Your biased, ungrounded attack has no basis in reality, and you're a moron for propagating this stupid 'M$' idiocy. - kuchino, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11never heard of jellyfish.com, weird
- AntBing, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8I actually use Jellyfish.com on occasion. They usually do video games and other stuff electronic at night from 12am to 4am and you can get some good deals. The chat room feature does seem to fill up with trolls though, and mini games that run while you are shopping can get addictive so heads up. There are a few people that always seem to be on and I'm sure they are reselling the crap on Ebay to turn a small profit.
- chris9902, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7That's very good. Now, what sound does a cow make?
- EtherGnat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6There are two distinct areas of the Jellyfish site.
1. Smack Shopping is the loss leader portion of the site. It provides items in a live, reverse auction format where prices start at retail and drop until the item sells out. Whatever price you buy at is what you pay. Discounts frequently exceed 40%, and it's not unusual to purchase things far below even ebay prices.
2. Jellyfish.com referral purchases allow you to purchase any item you like at hundreds of web stores. For these purchases you start on Jellyfish.com and click through to the store that has the product you want to make the purchase. Depending on the store you'll earn a rebate from Jellyfish, typically around 3% (although I've seen anywhere from 1-30%). These rebates accumulate in your Jellyfish account and you can request a check once it hits $10. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5bad move because rudy23 doesn't liek it!
- quikboy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Just like Google didn't acquire Keyhole and YouTube?
- MrBlue999, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6I'm surprise how quickly JellyFish got bought out. My colleagues and I were on that site everyday for weeks trying to win a t-shirt. :P
Oh, and some of them did buy some stuff. Interesting concept. Congrats to JellyFish. Hope they cashed out ok. - FutureGuy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6MS's customer support is pretty damn good, this is the latest example http://digg.com/microsoft/Old_Zune_Getting_All_The ...
- quikboy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5While we all are entitled to our opinions...
Did Microsoft say they would make it awful, bloated, and Live-branded full when they bought this? No.
There's nothing that indicates this.
BTW: I've used their Live products for the last few weeks, and I think they're pretty neat. Live Hotmail looks better, and works better to me than Gmail, and their new Live Search 2.0 displays results much better, and have the same or better relevant first results.
But that's my opinion. - ElbridgeGerry, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Guess it won't be so comparative now...
- macromorgan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Damn... the best kept secret for buying newly released video games is out in the open and on the front page of Digg!
- postalblowfish7, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7no guys, microsoft are the GOOD GUYS now! windows live rules!
- fishbert, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5always been partial to http://www.pricegrabber.com , myself
- kevinrosypalm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Apparently sold for $50 million... http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=670346
- Jeffler, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Quack?
- fadetoone, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I view the price comparison/cash back aspect of Jellyfish as secondary to their "Smack" live show, in which an item is put up for sale and the price decreases per second until the quantity is sold out. They also include minigames between/during sales to keep you occupied. You can also win prizes/money via said minigames.
- fadetoone, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Incorrect. You might be confusing the Jellyfish storefront with the live smack show.
- EtherGnat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Let's just hope they don't find out it's the only place around to routinely buy MacBooks and iPods for 20%+ off. ;)

The New York Times is running an interesting article entitled "EBay Revises Its Ambitions for Skype" in which eBay admits paying too much for Skype, having been tempted by "tons of users" into buying a company with "no clear monetization path." Here's a link to the article:

At first glance, I am utterly amazed that anyone would pay serious money for a site as ordinary as Jellyfish. - iffypop, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Buyouts happen every day with companies in every sector, in every country. But let me guess, you only care if its Microsoft?
- RiverBelow, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I agree with you mostly, though.
- EtherGnat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Those of us that aren't mindless fanboys can usually see both the good and the bad about companies. Microsoft produces a number of good products and services and frequently attacks against the company are unfounded. In those cases I defend Microsoft.
In this case the support currently offered by Jellyfish is better than that typically provided by Microsoft (I've had both great and horrendous support issues with Microsoft). The concern that Microsoft's influence, combined with an urgency to mind the bottom line and bring in new customers, could have a negative impact on customer service isn't unfounded.
I didn't say that Microsoft will ruin Jellyfish's customer support, or that it will necessarily have any impact, but I do think it's possible. - sgglynn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Does this mean jellyfish will stop advertising VIA digg's comment boards? You have to look close, but everytime a Jellyfish.com story gets posted, the same 5-10 users post about how awesome Jellyfish is, and that's all they post on digg about
*EDIT*
See Macromorgan and EtherGnat's comments above - SilentJay74, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Dude I use Microsoft. I am NOT AND APPLE FAN BOY BY ANY MEANS! I F'N hate getting sent over to India evertime I have a MS problem. Are you that ***** blind?!
- EtherGnat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I love Digg and Jellyfish. It's true that I frequently post in Jellyfish stories on Digg, but only from a true passion for the site. Jellyfish is worthy of being posted on Digg, and diggers would be well served by checking the site out--particularly the smack shopping area. I found out about Jellyfish on Digg myself, when the ArsTechnica sponsored show made the front page in May.
That being said there have been some "smackers" that have spammed the comments in the past with referral links and other inappropriate comments. I don't believe it was done with malice, but I have dugg them down and reprimanded them both on Digg and on Jellyfish. I think you'll find my comments about Jellyfish are fair and honest, and that I have contributed substantially to the Digg community (I was one of the top Digg posters before I became addicted to JF). - ClarkNoHeart, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3How observant. :]
- Meowbiusfox, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Spilt Milk is their best album.
- inigomntoya, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I know that. Maybe you should have told THEM that...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I guess next week when Google buys yet another startup (to add to their already large collection), you can also whine that they're out of control.
- sgglynn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Eh maybe they aren't, I was to hasty to edit... but i've seen a bunch of people on here like that
- oesj, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1they didn't have to buy the business just to get the domain :P
- monkeyrun, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2hmm... Jellyfish has a big community, but why?
There is no way it could worth that much. - pooleen, on 09/24/2008, -0/+0http://warfreegames.wordpress.com/
- khalidhajsaleh, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2I wonder if this is a new space ms is trying to get to as well.
- LionMania, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2I need some smack!
- HollowMarkeD, on 10/10/2007, -5/+5Is it as good as http://www.kelkoo.co.uk ?
- Rahodeb, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Ya think?

- trevorjez, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1whoops on my part for not working with jellyfish months ago...
- alansky, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Jellyfish looks extremely basic (despite a decent-looking interface) compared to sites like Pricegrabber. Funny how Microsoft seems to be taking one misstep after another these days, like a doddering old fool who can no longer walk down the street without stumbling.
- RiverBelow, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1You frequently defend Microsoft, yet you're worried they could ruin a good service? I'm concerned on why you'd defend a corporation that you think MAY ruin one of the greatest things about a site, in this case Jellyfish.com.
- inigomntoya, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1More like a bad move by JellyFish to sellout. But, everything has its price, I suppose...
Wonder if MS will actually use it - or are they coming out with a device called "The JellyFish"? - HanSolo69, on 10/10/2007, -6/+2"New deal of the day: Windows Vista for $400 or OSX for $1,000,000,000 three dead puppies, the revival of the Nazi party and an angel losing it's wings!"
