(So get rid of it, or get lost.)"
So their plan is to win me over to their inferior browser by insulting me and giving me an ultimatum? - gamebittk, on 06/17/2009, -16/+296"upgrade your browser to Windows Internet Explorer now"
Upgrade? Hahahahahahaha. - everdred, on 06/17/2009, -9/+214Haha http://twitter.com/Tengrand_FF3
- Wuss, on 06/17/2009, -1/+176OMG I FOUND IT!
http://chunkymoon.com/10000.html - jeches, on 06/17/2009, -5/+168My guess is that either a 90 year old great-grandma, or a 6 year old kid will find it.
- Innuendo24, on 06/17/2009, -7/+160Only IE8 can render it?
So it's ***** made? - alexcroox, on 06/17/2009, -3/+140"webpage that only internet explorer 8 can view".
Sigh, they still don't get it... - Duffle, on 06/17/2009, -3/+105Open to Australians only.
- Flagg3, on 06/17/2009, -1/+100'Powered by Live Search"
FYI, Microsoft, in case you hadn't heard - It's called 'Bing Search' now, in case you didn't get the memo... - Braxo, on 06/17/2009, -3/+101They told me Safari was boring.
- cubicledrone, on 06/17/2009, -2/+90Someone will find it, but because IE doesn't support CSS properly, the "I win" button will be covered by an off-center ad to win a free iPod by plunging toilets faster than the other guy.
- jestho, on 06/17/2009, -10/+92*switches Safari's User Agent to IE8*
- hilanderiam, on 06/17/2009, -1/+80"But you'll never find it using old Firefox."
Firefox 3.5RC is "old"? - joecomputerguy, on 06/17/2009, -2/+66FYI - This applies to Australia only.
"2. Entry is open to Australian residents aged 16 years and over only. Entrants under 18 years should seek parental permission to enter. Employees of the Promoter, and their immediate families, its retailers, suppliers and associated companies and agencies are not eligible to enter." - 4g3nt_Smith, on 06/17/2009, -3/+63Heres the fun part, Safari 4.0.1 with IE8 useragent fools the site and I get the "IE8-only" content.
- FredFredrickson, on 06/17/2009, -30/+89Whenever I watch network TV during primetime, almost every TV show on every network I watch has an Apple ad during every commercial break. How is that not desperate, but every single marketing strategy Microsoft takes is?
- cenic, on 06/17/2009, -2/+59Just like the old email forwarding scam:
Hi,
I am forwarding you this email because Microsoft is tracking it and every person that receives it will get $100.
thanks,
Bill Gates - failtrain, on 06/18/2009, -1/+58"It's a cleverly concealed webpage that only Internet Explorer 8 can view."
When they say cleverly concealed, they mean lack of standards right? - marx2k, on 06/17/2009, -6/+59I'm no fan of Chrome, but you shouldn't really be using IE as your primary browser anyway. It's got bugs, security problems, and is still pretty noticeably beta.
</fixed> - geerlingguy, on 06/17/2009, -5/+55Haha - this is so ridiculous. Did Microsoft actually make it? It's almost cheesy enough, but it's way too sarcastic.
- pak314, on 06/17/2009, -2/+52My guess is it will be an Australian 16 years or older.
- jimminy, on 06/17/2009, -7/+56My Operating System is not supported by the ninemsn Optimised version of Internet Explorer 8. :(
- FirstOne1, on 06/17/2009, -6/+53microsoft has a little too much nerve making fun of other browsers when they've got the worst on the market - even with ie8.
- absaroke, on 06/17/2009, -3/+48I'm running IE8 and I see the "But you'll never find it using Windows Internet Explorer 7" message. Wow...great browser identification!
- roxgod666, on 06/17/2009, -1/+45I never knew IE 8 has clue cracking abilities. Uninstalled FF right away, IE 8 and 10 grand here i come!!!
- CamperBob, on 06/17/2009, -1/+44Or the Googlebot.
- bincoder, on 06/17/2009, -1/+41Can't I just go on with any browser and any OS and have it lie about the browser and OS in use?
That would seem simpler. - mctom987, on 06/17/2009, -1/+40I just got the newest version of Firefox. That would make IE8 old.
- CrasyMike, on 06/17/2009, -2/+38The failures in coding all perfectly align to give a clue :O
- Benno, on 06/17/2009, -1/+32"cleverly concealed webpage that only Internet Explorer 8 can view". This site doesn't follow web standards...deliberately? They're using weak browser sniffing ("You'll never find it using that browser") on this page, so spoofing your user agent might be enough to see the super secret webpage.
I would love it if someone using a spoofed user-agent won this. - omenmedia, on 06/18/2009, -0/+30It totally ignores Opera and says "you'll never find it using that browser".
- bmullins, on 06/17/2009, -6/+36Don't contests have a no purchase necessary requirement? And don't I, in theory, have to purchase a Microsoft OS to use IE8 to be eligible for the prize?
- dsmx, on 06/18/2009, -3/+33Shouldn't they be sued for false advertisement on that?
- init100, on 06/17/2009, -6/+36The difference is this: The trend for Microsoft browsers is downwards, while other browsers have upward trends.
- alcoholio, on 06/17/2009, -11/+40Nice move. I guess anti-virus software sales will proliferate with the help of this campaign. Sales or illegal downloads, whatever. How much money could they have spend to make ie8 really better and safe. What about FBI warnings about using ie. Maybe they are going to seed a lot of spyware, I don't know, and don't care about this money. They can bury it in their asses.
- DiomedesTydeus, on 06/17/2009, -9/+36Honestly, this isn't the worst thing MS has done. They're giving out 10k and trying to have some fun while promoting IE8. Earlier they gave away 8 free meals to feed America for every IE8 download.
Sometimes they're the big bad guy and sometimes they aren't. I'd rather not hassle them about doing something that isn't totally heartless. - Doomsan, on 06/17/2009, -9/+36Worst designed ad ever.
- MavRevMatt, on 06/18/2009, -1/+27@thunderforce learn the difference between beta and release candidate before you post again.
- jemka, on 06/17/2009, -2/+28"Entry is open to Australian residents aged 16 years and over only."
- rlanantelope, on 06/17/2009, -0/+25doubtful
- inactive, on 06/17/2009, -1/+26You're in compatibility mode.
- tavman, on 06/17/2009, -17/+41Look up "Advertising".
Now look up "Bribery".
Finally, look up "Desperation". - craighamnett, on 06/17/2009, -1/+24ha ha, another bandwagon jumper
http://twitter.com/Tengrand_Chrome - nenadsuperzmaj, on 06/17/2009, -2/+25That is hilarious!!!
- rnawky, on 06/17/2009, -3/+25Just more proof that IE8 doesn't follow web standards....
Or unless it's a server side script that gets the user agent and delivers the reward accordingly in which case I will just continue to use Firefox and spoof my user agent string, because I can do ***** like that with Firefox... - DarkShroud, on 06/17/2009, -2/+24You would like to think that. http://downloads.channel.aol.com/browser
- pazimzadeh, on 06/17/2009, -2/+24It would be really funny if a Google or Yahoo employee found it...
- mattyx, on 06/17/2009, -1/+23Irony defined.
- KevenM, on 06/18/2009, -0/+22I just wanted to feel included in this thread.
- alais, on 06/17/2009, -21/+42If Microsoft is "really desperate" what would apples 9% of the market be? really, really, really desperate?
