- WhereAmI, on 03/06/2008, -17/+121Won't install on WINE.
As you can tell I'm devastated. - pldgnoauthority, on 03/06/2008, -38/+123firefox ftw
- dogfoodtaster, on 03/06/2008, -4/+63It installed over my IE7, but it offers an IE7 emulation mode that you can activate with a button on the toolbar.
- Thomaschaaf, on 03/06/2008, -12/+59http://screencast.com/t/yJbi22wZ typo! They spelled Windows wrong!
- handcoding, on 03/06/2008, -7/+42The download links are now up, btw.
- WhereAmI, on 03/06/2008, -15/+50Like I'm going to use a microsoft site to test which browser renders what properly.
W3 or gtfo - linuxrocks2007, on 03/06/2008, -8/+40"Window" XP ftw
- jamesrdorn, on 03/06/2008, -9/+38Wow this site passes W3 validation... does that mean it requires Firefox to download IE8?
- MrBroly, on 03/06/2008, -1/+27OMG!!!!!!!
>_>
.
.
. - alexdemers, on 03/06/2008, -2/+27I don't but I really want to see it anyway to see if my websites renders properly in it and to see the fixes I need to do for it to work out.
- inactive, on 03/06/2008, -4/+28I wish people would accurately refer to this as IE 8 *Beta. Most people i know never download beta software...not just because its probably half baked, but also because of the scum it leaves on your harddrive. Of course I mean figurative scum... because as a beta "user", you know soon you will delete it and install the real IE 8... and pray that the old ...unstable...files are all gone. Because you know... Microsoft loves to install stuff in the registry, and in c:windowssystem32... Beta is best left on VMs...
- garionw, on 03/06/2008, -5/+26This is great news, I think now I'm going to stop supporting IE6 altogether
- chris9902, on 03/06/2008, -1/+22You should submit that as feedback. Give the devs something to laugh at.
- alexdemers, on 03/06/2008, -7/+27They have a new page to test CSS 2.1:
http://samples.msdn.microsoft.com/csstestpages/ - thailand1972, on 03/06/2008, -4/+22And tonight I insert the 'Downgrade to XP' disk that came with my new laptop.
"Downgrade" you say? - Hortnon, on 03/06/2008, -3/+21Because every idea ever MUST be original, right?
Get over yourself. - SvnX, on 03/06/2008, -2/+18Downloaded... Loaded Digg... It's Ok. Loaded CNet... It's Ok. Loaded ArsTechnica...It's Ok. Then...OMG... Try loading ANY CMS's.... Joomla, Drupal, Pligg.... Various errors all over the place. In Joomla....certain templates work just fine. Found various errors in Rockettheme templates and the forums at Joomla rendered correctly about 60% of the time.
- rickjames47, on 03/06/2008, -3/+19does anyone know if IE8 installs over IE 7 and 6 or if you can run it from a different directory?
- WhereAmI, on 03/06/2008, -2/+18Neither is IE8.
- MrSelfDestruct, on 03/06/2008, -2/+18IE has always been faster than Firefox...
- likwidfuzion, on 03/06/2008, -0/+16And how did the general public get Firefox? Oh that's right.
- inactive, on 03/06/2008, -1/+16you deserve it
- DarkShroud, on 03/06/2008, -0/+15Or maybe just like when IE7 came out it's Adobe again. Because they keep on top of bug fixes for flash. Just ask Linux users about their speedy updates.
/sarcasm - thugok, on 03/06/2008, -0/+15Let me guess, you are also a prince who has a check that you need my help in cashing?
- inactive, on 03/06/2008, -7/+22How do you know they are cheating? On the other hand, even Firefox 2 doesn't pass Acid 2. I know FF3 does, but it's not officially out.
- inactive, on 03/06/2008, -3/+17MS already answered that:
http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2008/03/05/why-is ... - 3ugene, on 03/06/2008, -1/+15You know how many starving children in Africa you could have fed with all that money?
- linuxrocks2007, on 03/06/2008, -2/+15Thanks for restating the summary.
- djepik, on 03/06/2008, -4/+16*Beta
- MioTheGreat, on 03/06/2008, -2/+14I bet you feel proud for having just learned what these 'alpha' and 'beta' things those computer people are always taking about are, and are just trying to show off.
- dizturbd2, on 03/06/2008, -14/+26Not only does it crash when I click on the Favorites Star, it cant display google maps. what a wack job. Dugg only so others will not waste their time on this. I God Bless Firefox.
- Groovemaster, on 03/06/2008, -0/+12Humans make typos?????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is just mindblowing!!!!!! - Zapita, on 03/06/2008, -2/+13oh, i thought the excitement was for the final version not a beta
- aussieNickuss, on 03/06/2008, -0/+11BETA!
- thailand1972, on 03/06/2008, -2/+13God, oh Holy One.....it is You......I never thought I'd find you on a Digg thread about IE8....do you have a message for us, Father?
- WarezAppz, on 03/06/2008, -3/+14You're both Idiots - you DO NOT NEED SP1 to run IE8 Beta. right this very moment I am dual booted into vista WITHOUT SP1 and using ie8.
- Hortnon, on 03/06/2008, -2/+13So, did you try IE8 yet? Or do you just like rambling angrily becuase it makes you feel superior?
- DebtOn2, on 03/06/2008, -4/+15Your laptop came with a 'Downgrade to XP' disk? Lucky.
- thailand1972, on 03/06/2008, -0/+11Oops.....I wonder if these breakages are due to IE6 fixes....oh the *****....
- MioTheGreat, on 03/06/2008, -1/+11Given that IE Tab probably just instantiates a WebBrowser object, I'd say that it's pretty likely that IE Tab is going to work.
- YourMaster, on 03/06/2008, -2/+12You can install all of those things in Firefox, and it's basically the same as installing them in IE. I don't understand what you want them to fix?
- inactive, on 03/06/2008, -2/+12Wow... a whole new level of "didn't read TFA" people
- charlietuna, on 03/06/2008, -0/+9Lets get this running under wine. (and I don't need to hear about how Firefox is all I should use, if you hate MSIE so much then you should not be reading this thread).
- srg13, on 03/06/2008, -1/+10I've never had that... By the way, Quicktime is installed manually, isn't it? But Flash should be installed automatically in the 'missing plugins' wizard. In my experience, it's very reliable - you might have some other software/hardware problems messing it up. I think you can install Flash manually too if the wizard fails though.
- Appleologist, on 03/06/2008, -1/+10Actually you don't need virtual machines. The MultipleIEs project has developed a complete package of IE 3, 4.01, 5.01, 5.5, and 6:
http://tredosoft.com/Multiple_IE - Pyromite78, on 03/06/2008, -0/+9Buried for missing a perfect opportunity to rick roll >.
- pantsbandit, on 03/06/2008, -0/+9No, only if MS uses it. You must be new here.
- kckman, on 03/06/2008, -0/+9From the link:
"Internet Explorer 8 can be installed on Microsoft Windows Vista® Service Pack 1 (SP1), Windows Vista, Windows XP® Service Pack 2 (SP2), Windows Server® 2008 and Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2). Downloads are available from the following locations"
Am I right that Vista SP1 hasn't been released yet? - steveoco, on 03/06/2008, -2/+11It seems to run just as fast as Firefox, the only thing is Firefox becomes more sluggish the longer you use it, IE has seemed to keep its speed up to scratch so far. I also welcome this new standard compliance. It can only make devs happy in the long run.
- salmonmoose, on 03/06/2008, -0/+9Bear in mind that some sites won't render because they're purposefully broken for IE6/7. I'd suggest that's what's wrong with google maps.
