- sleepwalker, on 06/17/2009, -10/+1018that's the funniest thing I've seen all day
- TnTBass, on 06/18/2009, -9/+524I had no idea IE8 was so much better than Firefox or Chrome. I'm switching back now! Thanks Microsoft, you've never steered me wrong in the past!
Can I install IE8 on Windows ME? If not, I'll upgrade to Vista! I've heard about the wow, and I heard it starts now! - baramunchies, on 06/18/2009, -11/+421i was unsure which prowser is the best. it is very confusing these days. thanks to microsoft now i know which one to use.
- satanguy, on 06/18/2009, -15/+369what a crock! my god that's outright lies!
- boomybx, on 06/18/2009, -6/+298"Internet Explorer 8 is more compatible with more sites on the Internet than any other browser."
You mean geocities.com ? - threedaysatsea, on 06/18/2009, -3/+283The part about web standards is so absurd I can only assume they were trying to make us laugh.
- negurici, on 06/18/2009, -10/+268now this is just silly. the part about web standards.... ie8 scores the lowest on acid 3 test with 19/100, while ff 3.5rc has 93/100 and chrome 3 94/100. so, where's the tie?:)) maybe they want to say there's a tie between chrome and ff... and both firefox and chrome don't have InPrivate browsing. they have private mode and incognito :))) and i'll just stop here with the comparison.
- blatant3, on 06/18/2009, -10/+264The sad part is that most people will fall for this *****.
- rnawky, on 06/18/2009, -17/+242Wow really?
Security: IE8 has the most security holes. ActiveX controls anyone?
Privacy: Chrome has incognito mode, but clearly Microsoft doesn't think that's worth anything
Ease of Use: Chrome has virtually no tool bar. At first I thought this would be bad, now I realize I had no use for it all along.
Web Standards: IE8 Gets a mark? http://acid3.acidtests.org enough said.
Developer Tools: Come the ***** on, Chromes built in developer tools are 10x better, Firebug in FF is 20 times better.
Reliability: Chrome doesn't crash, so there's no need for reliability.
Customizability: I seriously had no ***** idea IE supported addons. Does it have adblock?
Compatibility: The only reason I see Microsoft giving themselves this one is "compatibility mode" aka "view page with MS Standards"
Manageability: Wait what?
Performance: Test it yourself http://service.futuremark.com/peacekeeper/index.ac ... (Spoiler Alert: IE8 looses big time)
Not that you guys didn't know this already. Although reading the comments column this really does look like a joke. - thinboyslim, on 06/18/2009, -12/+234That's close to being liabelous
- andjew, on 06/18/2009, -4/+178look at all those ticks!!
- bonzooznob, on 06/18/2009, -7/+179The developer tools part was the funniest.... sure if you are using Firefox you'll need to download Firebug or the Web Developer Toolbar but there's the diff. Those 2 tools alone are 10x better than the frustratingly hard to use IE tools. Plus Firebug allows its own extensions so you can plug in YSlow (awesome) or CodeBurner (awesome), Jiffy, FirePHP, FireCookie, SenSEO etc.
Best of all you dont have to suffer from CamelCaseHtMLhELL of IE=quoteless attributes="kinda sorta" tagSoup crap - vdogg89, on 06/18/2009, -5/+161Woah woah back it up a second. They're claiming that IE 8 has the same speed as chrome?? Are they high?
- worbd, on 06/18/2009, -11/+146Someone fixed the chart:
http://digg.com/microsoft/Windows_Internet_Explore ... - SSPink, on 06/18/2009, -4/+136"Sure, Firefox may win in sheer number of add-ons, but many of the customizations you'd want to download for Firefox are already a part of Internet Explorer 8 – right out of the box."
Microsoft: utterly failing at having any idea what consumers would want. - zzzpoohzzz, on 06/18/2009, -3/+97buried for trying to whore yourself out... even though i am a firefox user
- erowe3, on 06/18/2009, -2/+94"Here at Microsoft, we don't believe in thing such as "researching" or "citing sources". We like to believe it is best for the consumer to blindly believe our fancy charts"
- t0ny, on 06/18/2009, -6/+96Safari 4 get 100/100 and the iPhone OS 3.0 gets 97/100. MS must only be counting the web standards they have come up with or something.
- Phocion55, on 06/18/2009, -1/+87They know exactly what consumers want:
Big green check marks. - linagee, on 06/18/2009, -2/+87Our browser is 100% compliant with the standards we released. Is yours???
/s - inactive, on 06/18/2009, -6/+88*libelous or, for the British, libellous.
:-)
I wouldn't want the prepubescent diggers to get confused when they look it up. - effigy, on 06/18/2009, -6/+87That is the biggest steaming pile of complete bull ***** I've seen in a very long time.
- andregriffin, on 06/18/2009, -4/+79" Internet Explorer 8 is more compatible with more sites on the Internet than any other browser."
Because of the sheer number of sites that had to be tailor made to work with IE's ***** standards simply because of market share. - JCEEZ, on 06/18/2009, -7/+78they forgot the /s
- tofagerl, on 06/18/2009, -3/+71No kidding, we passed this URL around at work today! Joke of the day :)
- nubnub, on 06/18/2009, -7/+70Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaqhahahahahahhahnahahnahahajhnah
- CoreyTamas, on 06/18/2009, -2/+63No. They're marketing. :)
- INTERNETMASTER, on 06/18/2009, -6/+64buried as inaccurate
- Phocion55, on 06/18/2009, -2/+56Someone please turn this into a poster.
- ThReAtEnEd, on 06/18/2009, -1/+50and by someone, you mean you
- 0tis, on 06/18/2009, -8/+57Hi-larious.
- Klowner, on 06/18/2009, -5/+54I can't find it in Ubuntu's package manager, I better call my nephew and ask him.
*eats another Werther's Original* - rbarnes, on 06/18/2009, -7/+54I think I feel a sneeze coming on ... ahh ... ahhhh ... ahhhhhh ... *****!
Whew. Excuse me. - fatex, on 06/18/2009, -4/+50buried for mac fanboy-ism
- tehnico, on 06/18/2009, -4/+50I think I'm digging this article for the wrong reasons.
- AutoTom, on 06/18/2009, -2/+48i love the way you try to pretend it wasn't you.
- bradpurchase, on 06/18/2009, -1/+46It's equal. Except Firefox 3 has support for more evolving features.
Right... - SSPink, on 06/18/2009, -1/+46Web developers tend to rage at a statement like this. When they think about the amount of work they had to do to make their sites render correctly in Microsoft's ***** browser, and then to see Microsoft claim that the compatibility is because of how awesome IE is.
***** you Microsoft, give me back the hours of my life I spent shoehorning my sites into your stupid standards. - kevinor, on 06/18/2009, -5/+49This is the real problem with IE. Microsoft actually believes this.
- DarknessGP, on 06/18/2009, -3/+47To be fair, they said "CSS 2.1" the acid 3 test would be considered "evolving standards" aka they follow the OLD standards, but not the new stuff that everyone actually cares about.
- mrebay007, on 06/18/2009, -2/+45I think IE8 is missing support for the <sarcasm /> tag.
- cleveruser, on 06/18/2009, -2/+44use this prowser..
http://prowser.sourceforge.net/ - dupems, on 06/18/2009, -3/+44***** that, I dugg it because it's hilarious and couldn't possibly be taken seriously by anyone using firefox or chrome.
- Malik05, on 06/18/2009, -12/+52It doesn't even pass ACID3
- merreborn, on 06/18/2009, -6/+44"Acid3 is a test page from the Web Standards Project that checks how well a web browser follows certain web standards, especially relating to the Document Object Model and JavaScript."
The standards acid3 is based on may not be final, but they're still standards.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acid_3 - rnawky, on 06/18/2009, -4/+40Chrome does all of those.
And not for anything but after doing a browser benchmark with 3DMark's Peacekeeper Chrome kicked Safari's ass in all but 1 section. - MasterQ, on 06/18/2009, -1/+36@vargvikernes: the funny thing is we can't. not because people dont WANT to use the new standards (yes, they are standards), but because IE doesnt support them yet and IE holds the market share
i ruin your argument by proving you right... - Klowner, on 06/18/2009, -2/+37No way, I love Werthers, it's just that Werthers are the definitive "grandma candy"
- Dongvid, on 06/18/2009, -4/+37Perhaps you didnt realize that opera invented all of those features.
Or perhaps...
8/10. almost got me. would troll again. - iticu, on 06/18/2009, -0/+31Are we ripping on Werthers now?
