I was starting to worry that my spam collection would be lost! - thehype2049, on 10/10/2007, -12/+93Let them give me 5gb, Gmail is still better, faster, no ad's and work 99% of the time. Google > Microsoft
- Vorrel, on 10/10/2007, -4/+72I think this is just fluff advertising.
Yahoo!, Google, MSN all know that hardly anyone is going to get close to using their 5GB limit. - techmonkey4u, on 10/10/2007, -9/+56hotmail is still around?
- carpespasm, on 10/10/2007, -5/+51is it still covered in banner ads?
- JoshuaH, on 10/10/2007, -1/+41Never know when you're gonna need that Viagra.
- dwninjungleland, on 10/10/2007, -4/+40too bad this update is about 3 years late... they lost my business the minute that i got gmail.
- mal1964, on 10/10/2007, -13/+47but when google does the same, it will be called brilliant lol.
- drjekelmrhyde, on 10/10/2007, -7/+39woot Yahoos unlimited
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+35Instead of giving us more space they should upgrade their servers so it doesn't take a day to check 1 e-mail.
- KevenM, on 10/10/2007, -6/+36And don't forget that the spam filter with Gmail v. Hotmail are like night and day
- HerrEisenheim, on 10/10/2007, -3/+27How about no draconian advertising and POP and forwarding support?
- leontes, on 10/10/2007, -2/+24I remember when my mother used to delete all emails received with the 'hotmail' moniker 'cause she thought they had to be dirty.
- sirbeta, on 10/10/2007, -1/+23Well, there are ads in Gmail, they just aren't intrusive like everywhere else.
- unversed, on 10/10/2007, -3/+25I still only have 2GB :(
Must be because I'm Canadian - renegadeafk, on 10/10/2007, -3/+24Better than hotmails freaking banner ads
- Darth_tater, on 10/10/2007, -2/+22how about you add support for outlook. $20/yr is not alot, but its way too much for simple *outlook* access. thats all i ask; my gmail account does it for *free* but now i have to be inconvenienced to go to the damn webpage for my hotmail email.
- lengau, on 10/10/2007, -2/+21"You are currently using 2706 MB (94%) of your 2888 MB"
Hardly anyone, but for me, it's useful. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -14/+32I smell some desperation here...
- chowderdick, on 10/10/2007, -5/+22I could ***** care less... hotmail blew it with me... repeatedly deleting every email for not composing an email for a month (ever hear of vacation, *****?).
Never had anything going for it and refused to change... - trickyNik, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17This is all fine, but as some other people have mentioned. Anything over a few gigs is overkill for 95% of people out there. I have a suspicion that the others are using it more for file storage. I guess this is still good news for people who have had a free hotmail account for years.
- chubbybubba, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17wow... I just realized I've had a hotmail account for 12 years!... which is about 12 million messages from Nigerian princes.
- VMark, on 10/10/2007, -2/+17Gmail is free and is 2+ gigs. Why not use that if you don't use over .5 gigs?
- snypa, on 10/10/2007, -4/+17Hotmail needs to do more than just increase storage space. The layout is terrible, and the beta is a joke. It seems gmail and yahoo are the only ones on point for now at least.
- lengau, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15Google and Yahoo space will jump in 5... 4... 3...
- xcheats, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14Everyone also knows that text is highly compressible, so what may be 5GB of your allotment may only be 3GB or less on their server. All of this was discussed when Gmail was launched. If you look in the fine print, I'm sure there are a lot of restrictions on attachments because they aren't as easily or as highly compressible.
- elvenseven, on 10/10/2007, -4/+16The hot male's hard disc just got bigger.
- amitku, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13At least they're removing that useless today page (damn you AOL for inventing it!)
- ziffel, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14i can't believe people *pay* for email services
- lastrite, on 10/10/2007, -4/+15Totally original . . .
Meh Gmail is better. - potterboy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12That is because you have had your hotmail account since before they started charging for POP access.
- modifiedbears, on 10/10/2007, -6/+16only if you can't figure out what ad block is for.
- strictnein, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12RFTA:
"August: Hotmail will _SOON_ bring you more of your requests, better performance" - potterboy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12Clicked once, but it still double posted, digg me down.
- p0tent1al, on 10/10/2007, -7/+16Hotmail is a horrible service, I'm sorry. Even though I have 1 e-mail there left, me and anyone else who still has an account needs to start transitioning into a new e-mail provider.
And when I say that, I mean GMail. Especially since you can have all your e-mail forwarded from Hotmail to Gmail, there is no reason why people should stick with Hotmail. - NicksVideo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Until Hotmail allows you to forward your e-mail to GMail without a 3rd part application, a lot of people are stuck.
- pooptaster, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9I don't know...poop has almost a 100% ***** content. Believe me.
- houndeyex, on 10/10/2007, -4/+11I thought you said you used hotmail?
- Drgn547, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8For those of you whining about the article being inaccurate: READ IT FIRST! (*whine* Oooo I still only have 2GB Oooo *whine*)
"Today, these new features will begin to roll our gradually to all our customers over the next few weeks, so if you don’t immediately see them, be patient, they’re coming!"
Granted, the title was misleading. - linkinpark342, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I don't think its so much that they don't know any better but its just people are lazy, and don't like to adapt to something new when something old will suffice.
- fkr3, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10Hotmail's one of the biggest free email providers in the world. Google's got more vocal fans but far fewer users.
- taupter, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7No free POP3 access... I'll stick with Gmail.
- fkr3, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9It was inevitable that email accounts be increased in size, Google just did it first.
- anachronaut, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Yeah, exactly. They only deleted my email once a few months ago, but that was all it took to royally piss me off, because I lost stuff that was years old. Yeah, I should have backed it up elsewhere, but I had never had any problems up until that point so I thought it was OK. ***** you too, Hotmail. I was only using about 5% of my allotment, so there was absolutely no good reason for them to do that when I'd been using the service for quite a few years. Cut a loyal user some slack or go ***** yourself. They chose the latter as far as I'm concerned.
Yes, I'm still a little angry about it. - Scorillo47, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5It's already there. You can use the (free) Outlook Connector to access Hotmail from Outlook.

- agimat, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Do they still empty your account if you fail to access your inbox for a couple of weeks?
- Frankien, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6I stopped using hotmail when gmail came out, their service is just plain horrible.
Isn't yahoo giving out unlimited storage? - Microdot, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7woooohoooo!!
wait... people still use hotmail? - JJayguy23, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Hotmail is so bad that I just have an account for the passport login.
