- Topher06, on 06/05/2009, -12/+146If you can get over your bias, Microsoft did a solid with Bing. While it may not replace yahoo (seriously though, who uses yahoo?) or Google, its at least a step forward to where search engine technology SHOULD go. Posting 6 billion search results is the way people searched the internet in the 90's, putting meaning to the search results is the way people are going to search in the 21st century. Wolfram and Bing are definitely the trend setters, and I am sure Google will follow suit soon by providing filtered search results.
- CaseKey, on 06/06/2009, -5/+117I would advise everyone to try using Bing's video search engine for porn. It will change your life forever.
- carbon916, on 06/06/2009, -11/+92That chart shows you ONE DAY in which Bing overtakes Yahoo and Google having lost some market share. Show me a one MONTH average and then it'll be worth noticing.
- bokufala, on 06/06/2009, -6/+69I use Google for everything...search, email, maps, you name it, but all the haters out there need to stop writing something off just because it has the Microsoft name attached to it. They're trying to turn their products around and it shows. If this were Google rolling this out it would be hailed as the best thing since sliced bread. I'm glad this has happened and I hope Bing steals more market share from Google. Competition is a good thing and only makes it better for the user experience.
- FakingFamous, on 06/05/2009, -9/+68What about K.Fed's search engine? http://searchwithkevin.swagbucks.com/
- Formaldehydex2, on 06/06/2009, -8/+63I've used Bing on and off the last couple days and have been very impressed. For the most part search results seems to be about on par with Google, and the interface is a major step up.
- dhughes, on 06/06/2009, -9/+50 Can that BE anymore embarrassing?
- gr00vy, on 06/06/2009, -1/+28One data point does not a trend make. But this is a very fickle space. Google got there because Alta Vista simply started to suck real bad. They then used their money very wisely to enforce the brand (buying the search field in Mozilla and Safari), coming up with new and creative add opportunities, making ad words available to all sorts of things other than search.
But Google is starting to suck. SEO is a huge problem. Once the content providers start gaming the system for their gain, the losers start to notice, and no longer like the results they are getting. If it becomes hard, they will try elsewhere. If the results start being better elsewhere, elsewhere will start becoming sticky. Google won overnight because the competitors sucked. There is absolutely no reason that can't happen again, if Google allows themselves to suck. - spiralspirit, on 06/06/2009, -7/+32google does give relevant search results...thats why they're dominating the search field.
- inactive, on 06/06/2009, -1/+26AOL still has a search engine?
- Sengara, on 06/06/2009, -0/+22Is it just me or does that site smell funny...?
- Origin415, on 06/06/2009, -4/+26I dont need a fancy picture with facts about Thailand, I just want to search.
In my few tests, google has been much better.
For instance "gentoo linux install", quite a simple task, puts gentoo.org as the top result on bing. Close, but not at all what I'm looking for. Google puts the installation handbook as the top, with links in the search result page to any architecture. The gentoo handbook is not even in the first 15 pages (I stopped looking after that) of bing's results , only a quick x86 install guide (and a sparc one a couple pages in). Even cuil does better. - DP84, on 06/06/2009, -3/+24I've used it and I like it.
The picture search is really well done. - kvgirard, on 06/06/2009, -8/+29my mom (god help her) insists on using ie6 and she called me to ask for 'computer help' since whenever you enter a search term in the address bar, instead of searching yahoo which it did previously, it now uses bing. i would say this may have something to do with it
- inactive, on 06/06/2009, -7/+26Forget yahoo, 55% of users surveyed said they'd replace Google with Bing.

Looks like Big G might be suffering a backlash... - doobiebrother, on 06/06/2009, -0/+19what. da. hell.
- macslut, on 06/06/2009, -1/+20Wow, just wow! I can't believe I'm about to spend some quality fap fap fap time with a Microsoft service.
BADA-Bing! - RawOysters, on 06/06/2009, -17/+35I'll stick with Google, thanks.
- oomfoofoo, on 06/05/2009, -14/+30Does boycottnovell tell you exactly what to post or are you allowed to put it in your own words?
- spiralspirit, on 06/06/2009, -5/+21bing is way better than the old MSN search. This isn't just a rebrand.
- toxicityj, on 06/06/2009, -3/+19Bing is definitely my new video search engine. Viewing little excerpts from the video instantly with the rolling over of my mouse is brilliant and useful.
- EverTheCynic, on 06/06/2009, -2/+17I personally prefer a multitude of results that I can refine with specific search terms. I want to check multiple sources and then decide for myself which is most relevant to my query, rather than have the search engine do it for me before returning the results. Not every search is as cut and dry as "what is 1+1?"
- jaxter2010, on 06/17/2009, -1/+15I always get a chuckle from google's and now bing's autosuggest. Try entering anything that could be adult oriented and it goes away (ex. nude). What is this 'nude' that you speak of? There is no nudity on the internet.
- michaelrsa, on 06/06/2009, -0/+13Who wouldn't want to search with Kevin, the voice of our generation? Truly he is an artist without equal even in those fields in which he does not associate. In all truth we know he is better than Stanley Kubrick, Picasso and Frank Lloyd Wright even though he has never dabbled in the craft of film, art or architecture.
Who would not want to bask in the glory of such a man by searching upon his engine? - cheaptrix, on 06/06/2009, -1/+13Actually, I just did and found 8 in the quick results with phone numbers and the rest of the page was exactly what I searched for. Great thing about it is I don't have to click the links to get the phone, address, etc...just hover.
Please spread your FUD somewhere else.
Take the name Microsoft out of the picture for a minute... I have actually seen Google level results consistently since it launched. I love the hover for summary feature. I have rarely had to click a link to get the data I needed.
However, I actually have to THINK about going to Bing.com. I don't have to do that with Google...My fingers are so comfortable typing those 10 characters. That is the real challenge for bing. - inactive, on 06/06/2009, -2/+13I gotta admit, it's basically live.com with a few enhancements. Not criticizing, just saying.
- CrazySpaniard, on 06/06/2009, -0/+11***** tinypic
http://imgur.com/BIhDJ.gif - betona, on 06/06/2009, -0/+11Same here. I added it to my Firefox search box and have been experimenting out of curiosity and it works really well. Image search has a way better interface with the hover expansions and the larger number of results.
- macfan93, on 06/06/2009, -1/+12why are we suddenly digging techcrunch articles?
- mrsteveman1, on 06/06/2009, -2/+12What does Linux have to do with Bing?
- renegadeafk, on 06/06/2009, -3/+13loads instantly for me.
- ashwaketu, on 06/06/2009, -0/+10Bing Is Not Google
- porque, on 06/06/2009, -0/+9that went on for like 5 minutes
- MyNameIsJoe, on 06/06/2009, -0/+9That's what I've been using it for. I'll use it's travel search to find a hotel next time I go somewhere too.
- Claw787, on 06/06/2009, -1/+10Dude..! You just found how they did it.
I'm not going back to Google video. - statops, on 06/06/2009, -1/+10Um yea. Exactly. Who cares.
- Snokage, on 06/06/2009, -6/+15I find that the bing interface doesn't load as fast as I would like.
- whatthefu, on 06/06/2009, -5/+13So far I think it's launch momentum and way too early to pass any judgments.
- peteyb1313, on 06/06/2009, -0/+8there was porn on google video?
- buckeyefrank, on 06/06/2009, -0/+8I think it is funny that Bing's homepage today is a picture of Normandy Beach, in remembrance of D-Day 45 years ago. The google logo on their homepage today looks like Tetris blocks, in remembrance of the creation of the video game.
I choose Bing. - ljkelley, on 06/06/2009, -1/+9http://www.bing.com/search?q=ice+cream+in+boston&a ...

So please do shut your mouth! - Schmidtopolis, on 06/06/2009, -2/+10REAL Rule if the Street: Crackheads will ALWAYS buy the crack you're slingin.
- buckeyefrank, on 06/06/2009, -0/+865 years, whoops. Exactly my point. Google honors something in the creative/scientific field, while Bing may put something like Normandy beach up. I don't thing google is being disrespectful, i just like that Bing's homepage can be absolutely anything, and it changes everyday.
- inactive, on 06/06/2009, -5/+12who said anything about relevent? Filtered and relevent are not the same thing. Google also got a large part of their market share by being hte first to bundle their search toolbar with commonly installed products in the days before brwosers had their own standalone search boxes.
- computershack, on 06/06/2009, -1/+8One thing Bing doesn't do is return results with the first 10 pages being nothing more than ***** e-tailers sites when I'm looking for reviews of hardware. ***** Google for that.
- yourmomlol, on 06/06/2009, -2/+9I don't think Gmail counts as being "beta", considering its been out for 5 years, no matter what kind of sticker they want to slap on it.
- Nimda11, on 06/06/2009, -3/+10Bing, no *****, It's actuall pretty good.
Pretend it isn't from Microsoft and use it when Google gives you a hard time, it helped me find my states property tax rate last night, couldn't find it (easily) with Google or Wolfram. - Pottersquash, on 06/06/2009, -1/+8I just found out that I can actually just use either one till I get what I want!!!
do they know this? - AZRoboto, on 06/06/2009, -2/+9Have you even used Bing?
- mithrasinvictus, on 06/06/2009, -2/+9Just give me ALL the results ordered by relevance. That way i can refine my search if i want to.
Filtering is just an excuse to prevent performance comparison. -
