- HA5TY, on 10/11/2007, -6/+29I don't know why so many people hate the Zune. not only does it have some cool features, it gives apple someone to compete with, which means cooler stuff. It also means apple and microsoft will have to lower there prices to compete with each other.

However, the firmware upgrade that enables song downloads from the zune marketplace at any wireless hotspot may be the best idea any mp3 player developer has ever had.

- Dustyb, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Actually I just bought my Zune not ten minutes ago, I researched this back in the iPod's 5gb hay-day, and I found out that they actually put a clear coat over the paint, so it really protects your player as well, and back then it was $100. However, I really like the way my Zune looks.

When the Zune first came out, I thought that Microsoft would use it to compete in a Windows-style way, undercutting to compition until there is no compition left.
Now that it has been out for a few months, I can see that Microsoft is competing with the iPod in an Xbox way, that is, in a non-monopolistic, fair way. Now that I can see that Microsoft is playing fairly in the mp3 player market, I respect them a lot more and look forward to what the Zune 2.0 has. - NGliam, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6Under $200 (£100!) for a Zune? Jeez.. I got to get me one of those. My friend got a Zune imported from America and I think it's great. Colouring it, however, just seems a waste of dough :P Black or white is sexay enough.

I sold my ipod and bought a zune. I was a REAL ipod fanboy, my first one was the 3G with the four buttons on front, then the photo, then the 5G, and even though it might sound ridiculous, I get tired that now everyone thinks they are cool because they have an ipod. The zune has a cool interface, its really great for watching movies, great interface and works great. One thing though is that I miss the sexy thinness of my ipod. When the iphone comes it may come to kick ass, but I want a multimedia player NOT a phone with 4 gigs of storage.
Maybe when the a new full screen ipod comes, I'll switch back..... I know, I'm a gadget whore. - conman16x, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Even as a staunch iPod supporter the wireless song sharing feature is very interesting to me. If only it was a little more useful I would definitely consider buying one.

- ron1n541, on 10/11/2007, -7/+9Even though I'm not a fan on Microsoft's products at all, and I think the Zune is capable of A LOT more, they add whole new functionality to the PMP market. All we need is some open source firmware (Rockbox? GNU/Linux?) to take advantage of this.

commenting on the fact that zune is brown, was mildly amusing LAST year... for two minutes.
Brown gadgets are very much becoming popular at the moment, as much as you'd like to bury your head in the sand and deny it, just look at the nokia phones (7360), fujifilm cameras (z5), or asus laptops (s6f, w6) as prime examples. Hell, if you're that interested check out what's happening in fashion and you'll see more brown than white, or probably even black.

ipod gen1 was mac only. one of the major reasons it sold slow.
tbf, mac fanboys and girls are probably a little upset that microsoft gained 10% of the hard disk mp3 player market so quickly.
