How is this ugly?

- zxof, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20im a mac user, personally i think ipod and zune have a nice design *honestly*
the ugliest mp3 player? this one...

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -13/+28Yes, because Apple and Google don't also copy Microsoft.
All company's take ideas from competitors, it keeps them going. - loker269, on 10/12/2007, -7/+14Actually from what I last heard the brown is selling better than the other colors....
Also hopefully it is priced a little more reasonably than the iPhone.....I might have considered any iPhone if it had not been so much! - Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -18/+24omfg i could shoot whoever came up with the lame "***** brown" quip
seriously, why use it one the zune when you have commonly used brown shoes, brows shirts brown anything
but nope, microsoft makes something brown and suddenly its time for 12 year old jokes - Comatose51, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Wow, neither product is out and people are already having ZunePhone vs. iPhone flamewars. I find arguments about innovations to be best settled by sales numbers and market shares. Innovations and inventions that cannot or was not successfully commericalized is pointless. Let's just shut up and wait to see who wins this a battle.
- fibreoptix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5First off I switched from Mac to PC seven years ago, mind you it was not OS X back then it was 8.5 I think. And it sucked.
Anyway your a Mac turd. All you Mac Fan boys are just that - Mac fan boys, you can't accept that people use computers for different personal reasons. Personally I like to MOD my computers and build them from scratch.... YEs Freedom in Hardware... I choose my components, something you mac fan boys will never understand. Some people game, others do graphics, others need a cheap family computer to check email and book their next vacation.
I have never looked upon Apple as cool. In fact ever since the iMac came out I found Apple computers to be geared towards women. It's a teen girls computer, so it could match their pretty rooms. Thats why macs are all over movies and advertising agencies, to make it look pretty.
A serious computer user makes his or her computer an extension of one self, by either modding it or building it running either windows or Linux. Again something you don't and will never understand as a Mac user.
I have nothing against Apple, they make some good stuff, if it (Mac OSX) could handle all my current software, support my Hardware and was available as a standalone OS like M$ does then I would actually consider installing it on to my rig to try it out. But it doesn't Why? because Apple knows full well what will happen if it made an OS that was able to handle the amount of different software like MicroSoft does. It would become less stable and they couldn't use thier BS line about Apple never crashing. It's ***** easy to say that when 2% of all software is compatible with the Mac. Shoot for 100% then we'll talk. The more popular an OS becomes the more valuable information flows through it, thus it get hacked, hijacked etc. Right now Mac is at 3% market share. No one gives a ***** whats on it, therefore, no need to attack it. So you continue believing your little fantasy world where Apple has made a truly secure and stable OS. If OS X is so great then ask Apple why they don't release their OS so it can run on any PC in the world. In other words make it a real alternative OS.
One Last thing. You use M$ (MicroSoft) as an idication that MS is only after cash and you state something about owning the world. Or mabey that was another Mac Fan boy post... So MS is like the Borg in your eyes. And Apple with their cute Ads and their pretty computers are the rebels fighting against the empire. Right? Is'nt it funny how you Mac fan boys want Apple to be the company that owns 100% of the computer market. Since Apple wants you to only use their Hardware that works only with thier software and vice versa, would that make Apple the real borg here? - mr1337, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11Sorry for the comment hijacking.
Direct link: http://www.mad4mobilephones.com/news/585/ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -12/+17Too bad MS has had MP3 playing smartphones for many years now.
- JaySherman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I know that in some alternate universe your comment is insightful and full of detailed explanations of why MS is crap, but this certainly isn't that universe
- sleepwalkers, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Stop generalizing what others think about it, and stop assuming that people don't like the Zune because they "hate Microsoft".
I'm a Mac user, I don't hate Microsoft, and I don't mind the Zune, but it's not quite as good as the iPod (in my mind). It's styling is not too shabby, but it's rather large for the device it is. The screen is nice, too, but it's somewhat negated by the fact that it's the same resolution as the iPod's screen. That stuff is all piddly crap. Doesn't matter a whole lot.
The biggest things I have against it are these few nitpicks:
- The wifi aspect is less than stellar, even when there are other Zunes around. Three days/plays? No wifi syncing? Meh, I wouldn't bother with that.
- No podcasting support. This doesn't matter to some people, but I love my podcasts.
- Only 30GB. Once again, this doesn't matter to some people, but I easily have 50GB+ worth of media that I would like to have with me, if only for the fact that I hate having to manage playlists.
I hope Microsoft (and even more, Zune) fans are able to see this as just some criticism and realize it's not a bash on Microsoft, and Apple users should realize that while there are criticisms, it's not as terrible of a device as the sales have shown.
And STOP CALLING IT ***** BROWN. The brown is nice, and - believe it or not - it's in style. - Wonotch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Hey guys,
This just in: THE IPHONE IS NOT EVEN OUT YET. (and neither is the "ZunePhone". Just incase the completely hopeless are tuning in.)
Seriously, you people are a riot. I'm not saying i think the iPhone is going to be a success or a failure, but just look at the iPod and when it came out. Forums (mind you even MAC forums) were a-flame with "omfg an mp3 player?! this thing is going to fail miserably!". And look what happened...
No matter if the iPhone is a complete success or failure, there will always be someone to laugh at: Those that think they know everything. - RogerStrong, on 10/12/2007, -13/+16> Microsoft just wouldn't be Microsoft if it didn't chase
> Apple's (or Google's) tail lights.
In this case it's Apple who's chasing Microsoft's tail lights. Microsoft has making PDA / Cell Phone / MP3 player OS's since long before the iPhone was announced.
The Zune is essentially a stripped-down Pocket PC. A Zune cell phone would be a stripped down Pocket PC cell phone. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Please develop your thoughts.

AppleTV seems to be so original in a market full of media streaming capable XBox 360's... - RogerStrong, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Uh huh. The obvious response being:
"my god.. listen to all the Apple fanboys and their blithering and whining about the fact that there are better alternatives to the iPhone. Windows Mobile owns the cell phone/PDA/MP3 player market just like Windows owns the desktop. Get a grip and stop being pissed about people not liking your stupid iPhone." - weikiat, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5my god... gizmodo is so lame..
Microsoft cannot have on screen keyboard? Just because iPhone have that?
Ok, Apple can't have iPod because Sony had Walkman years ago, iPhone can't have widescreen because PSP has that.
How about that? - RogerStrong, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8Show me an "innovation" from Apple, an I'll show you someone else who's done it before. In the case of the iPhone, I'll show you cases where it was done better. Including by Microsoft.
- NateB2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Please bury my above comment - Digg ate half of it. Below is the original comment:
You want innovation by MS? What about:
Expression Blend, Office 2007 (Especially this one!), Photosynth, Their *huge* R&D labs
Need I go on? - sleepwalkers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@RogerStrong: I would agree with you, but after using Microsoft products from birth until 2005 when I switched over to the Mac... I can't seem to think of anything that Microsoft has "borrowed" from another company and implemented better. I'm not an Apple fanboy or a Microsoft hater, but I really can't. Apple, when they do swipe something from another company, they do tend to improve upon it, if only in the UI aspect of it. Expose is basically a fancy Alt+Tab, Widgets are Konfabulator widgets (but cleaner), iTunes is a gussied up WMP (but it, for the most part, does a better job), etc. etc.
Anyone have any innovations from Microsoft or implementations of other ideas that Microsoft really improved upon? I'm trying my damnedest to remember.. - NateB2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4You want innovation by MS? What about:

- lopla, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4The Phune is unveiled, keyboard coverage live at the event:
Ballmer enters stage left, holy crap he's doing his intense ape dance.
YEAAAHHHH!!! he screams, my God he just caught like 6ft of air..
The crazed look in his eyes tells us something big is coming.
He finally slows and the sweat is pouring from his pits like a firehose, he turns and shrieks, "Phune!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
The crowd goes crazy now, Ballmer begins jumping around again wildly this time froth shooting from his gaped jaw, some froth hit's a guy in what looks like row 23.
3 MCSE's in the front row just fainted! Ballmer shrieks again, "PHUNE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!". Jesus he's got pipes!
The crowd is now doing the ape dance!
Ballmer's assistant has the Phune under some sort of over head projector, he's firing it up. Oh *****! BSD! - HairyPoter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Zune ("the ipod killer") is performing very well in the Amazon's electronics best seller list...
Zune black is on position #94
Zune brown is on position #294
Zune white is on position #712
on that same list, all 20 first positions are filled with Apple's iPod models since 2005... - robdazomba, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6They still make Zunes?

I had two PDAs before the Newton came along. Both were by Sharp. Other earlier PDAs included the Atari Portfolio and the Psion.
In fact when the Newton came out, the magazines had side-by-side comparisons with other PDAs. The only Newton "innovation" was a handwriting recognition system that didn't work.
Nice try though. Keep the faith and keep drinking the Kool-ade. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dammit. I'm a MS fanboy but this was freakin' hilarious! :-D
- metalhead3767, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Leo Laporte hates DRM.
- RogerStrong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Pocket PCs have always had an on-screen keyboard. My latest Pocket PC / cell phone has a fold-out keyboard, but I still usually use the on-screen one. It simply works.
- peestandingup, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4So, MS had a Multi-touch interface before Apple?? Show me. I'd love to see it.
And Apple innovations. Hmmm, the Apple II, the Newton, the iPod, the Nano, OS X (which started as NeXTSTEP years before), etc were ALL industry firsts. Shall I go on?? - Rileyper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When Apple releases a hardware, it is something done by Apple. M$ do not develop any hardware. All "hardware" released by M$ are produced by third parties like the Toshiba Zune. lets go way back now
Microsoft created the mouse not this one button ripoff
iPhone come on haven't u ever heard of pocket PC (also iPhone locked network)
Apple and other companies like Jaguar, Bentley, Rolls Royce, produce products with care, with detail. Microsoft is like Wal-Mart: cheap crap for all.
Microsoft isn't cheap (oswise) but apple is expensive as hell
wireless ms mouse $19.99+
Apple wired Mighty Mouse $49.00
Apple wireless Mighty Mouse whopping $69.00
PC with Microsoft $100-no limit
cheapest mac is $599
PC is upgradable
MAC is partially upgradable - Hooj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ rogerstrong
Did you think that all up by yourself? How clever.
@everyone else
I've thought the Zune was meh to begin with. Mind you, I don't even own an iPod or any other MP3 player.
The iPhone looks interesting, but with that price tag it better be able to make me a sammich.
No ideas on the Z(une)phone yet, since it hasn't been official announced and this is *just a rumor*. Besides, wouldn't be a bit foolish to follow up the Zune with another Zune like product in such a short timespan? - RogerStrong, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@davidf01,

- fibreoptix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ Hairy - LOL! Swapped a hard drive.... that's pretty hardcore. That's right up there with a Liquid cooled SLI set up. Your right I'm way off, you can walk into any computer store buy the top of the line video card, CPU, Heatsink, SATA HD, anything and just slap it in your Mac. WOW I was totally wrong.
"Right now Mac is at 3% market share.
-Actually we like it that way. It means we'll never have to deal with idiots like you."
Was I the one who posted the original post? No it was a Mac fan boy pounding his ichest demanding that Mac is better than Windows. You Mac fan boys are always in the face of widows users. So don't make it sound like your a quiet little community.
Bottom line guys - the truth, I could care less either way. Use whatever suits you. I would love it if the MAC OS X could run any software and be installed on any PC hardware configuration. In other words be a true alternative to Windows. Right now its limited. I have to purchase Mac hardware and ONLY use Mac compatible software. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Invented and buried it. The Newton was the size if a house! :-S
- Wonotch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1You should be a writer for "Tom Goes to the Mayor".
Jefferton ALIVE! - mconnors, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This is typical and I predicted they would have an i-phone rip off here last month. It will suck ass just as much as the current zune. If people whine and cry that mac is not original open your eyes- M$ could have developed something like this years ago but didn't because they are not original. Time to copy someone else and cram it down every ones throat. Business as usual.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2lolz!!!
- sleepwalkers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@NateB2: I dunno, last time I checked, having "*huge*" R&D labs isn't an innovation.
I'll check out the other things you mentioned, though. Microsoft does get a fairly bad rap when they do swipe ideas off of another company, but when Apple does it, people regard it as muy spectacular. - peestandingup, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2@fibreoptix
"A serious computer user makes his or her computer an extension of one self, by either modding it or building it running either windows or Linux. Again something you don't and will never understand as a Mac user."
Well, its funny because I just modded my Core Duo MacBook to an 802.11n internal wireless card & also swapped out my optical drive to a dual layer burner. But, you cant mod Macs, is that right?? And have you ever heard of something called a Mac Pro tower?? Yeah, Im pretty sure my friend told me he can do some of that stuff with them too. And last time I checked, it was a Mac too. Thats odd, huh?? Because, you say they cant be modded or upgraded. Thats a head scratcher.
And running either Windows or Linux on a Mac? Hmmm, oh yeah, I forgot! You can do that too with BootCamp or Parallels!!!
OK, enough with me trying to be cute. Your entire post fails & you just made yourself look like an ignorant jackass. Either know what you're talking about or don't even post. - Wonotch, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2@ fibreoptix
"Right now Mac is at 3% market share."
Actually we like it that way. It means we'll never have to deal with idiots like you. - HairyPoter, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Hey, you M$ lovers you have to stop seeing that there are a legion of Mac lovers outside ready to slap M$ in the face in the first place.
In fact, those who are called "Mac lovers and fanboys" are in fact people that have taste for the best and cared product. If M$ one day produced something original and cool, I am sure many people would recognize, but while M$ continues to be a "Me Too" company, copying anything it can see, we are ready to kick their asses.
When Apple releases a hardware, it is something done by Apple. M$ do not develep any hardware. All "hardware" released by M$ are produced by third parties like the Toshiba Zune. M$ has to stop trying to be cool and produce everything from space ships to diapers and fix that crap they call Windoze.
Apple and other companies like Jaguar, Bentley, Rolls Royce, produce products with care, with detail. Microsoft is like Wal-Mart: cheap crap for all.
M$ is trying to rule the universe. They produce, as I said, from space ships to diapers, from robotic dogs to remote controlled turds, from bluetooth condoms to infrared bar-code reader glass eyeballs. The only problem is:
1. the spaceship explodes reentering the atmosphere
2. the diaper has a hole in the ass that is never fixed
3. the robotic dog don't bark
4. the remote controlled turd stinks
5. the bluetooth condom crashes everytime you try to download something...
6. the infrared bar-code reader glass eyeball do not blinks.
- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -12/+10They confirmed a Zune Phone is in the works months before the iPhone was announced.
And what Embrace said. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -17/+15I have no problems with my Zune. Some people are having skipping problems which are being fixed in the next update.
And the brown doesn't look that bad... People just aren't ready to accept a change from black and white to something like brown.
And most people who are switching to Macs are doing so because of the Intel chips so they can run Windows, therefore the Zune is compatible with Mac's, just not OSX; -
