- v1rotate, on 05/22/2009, -6/+89Finally I don't have to pirate an ISO burner to burn the other pirated stuff I downloaded...
- lemur, on 05/22/2009, -7/+43At the end of the day, Windows 7 IS the cool tool. B)
- Advenger, on 05/22/2009, -0/+26imgburn is all you need. Google it.
- Dvico, on 05/22/2009, -5/+23Yeah, because there are no apps that are free that do this, cretin.
- MerchantofPanic, on 05/22/2009, -1/+18I like the refined inteface and new tools, but for me its the speed. Having Win7 is like putting a turbo on my aging Core2Duo.
- computershack, on 05/22/2009, -1/+18No it hasn't. There have been applications in *nix to do it for ages, whether integrated into Gnome/KDE/whatever or third party. This is no different than Windows.
- phpchris, on 05/22/2009, -1/+17If you look at AstralKnight's profile, the vast majority of his comments are the same crap over and over again.
Pathetic. - oomfoofoo, on 05/22/2009, -1/+17twitter and your own blog aren't exactly reliable, truthful sources.
The twitter Monologues: http://slashdot.org/~SockDisclosure/journal/214377 - MeltingIce, on 05/22/2009, -2/+17Some of this stuff is not new to Windows 7 and was in Vista such as the Windows Mobility Center.
- DarkShroud, on 05/22/2009, -3/+15That's what happens when people sue MS at every turn when they add functionality to the OS by default.
- DarkShroud, on 05/22/2009, -0/+12So sad, another nerd who was molested by Bill Gates at Computer Camp.
- jakereilly, on 05/22/2009, -2/+12Wow, my PC has a two button mouse and Macs .... still .... don't! And it only took... well, never!
There, my comment is now as dumb as yours. - Octanus, on 05/22/2009, -1/+11yawn..
- MicrosoftBob, on 05/22/2009, -1/+11Welcome to Computers. Enjoy your stay.
- bearcat8543, on 05/22/2009, -0/+10actually, tabs in explorer would be pretty damn cool
- DeadPlasmaCell, on 05/22/2009, -5/+14I'm enjoying Windows 7 and love all the features, but these " *Insert Number Here* Awesome things about Windows 7 " lists are getting a bit old. They're pretty much the same features listed over and over again... my body weary
- phpchris, on 05/22/2009, -0/+8"you need an extra click to get to your applications"
How did you work that out? the most used applications are shown right on the start menu, and if you want to view all your other applications you can simply click OR hover over "All programs", exactly like in previous versions of windows. - inactive, on 05/22/2009, -0/+8Funny, it's not that slow for me, nor anyone else that I've met (outside the internet) who's used it. Maybe you should send in a bug report, tell them what's different about your computer and what you did before it got slow. Did you do an upgrade or clean install? This stuff's actually pretty important to them, so don't whine about it over here.
- WilliamAdama, on 05/22/2009, -2/+9I love that there are so many little gems in Windows 7 that keep making their way up. I especially love the flicker RSS feed built right into windows explorer.
- Vesuvias, on 05/22/2009, -0/+7Did you start with a clean install or the "upgrade" option. BTW, using the upgrade option with any non-official released software is asking for issues.
Although, I have seen RC1 upgrade work, it is generally best practice to clean install - radu79, on 05/22/2009, -0/+6I use DeepBurner, it is free and great for burning ISO. It can do more than that, but I only use it for ISOs.
- WonderBoy55, on 05/22/2009, -0/+6I haven't seen that emote in freaking forever. Nice.
- MicrosoftBob, on 05/22/2009, -1/+7Yep, he's a troll of the most virulent kind.
And I'm sure credible Linux advocates cringe at his every post. - Griff431, on 05/22/2009, -0/+6Jesus...
This is the first time I'm going to have to buy a manual to use an OS. There are so many features hidden around, its impossible to find them all on your own. - lemur, on 05/22/2009, -0/+6"Well, long story short, it was the most horrible computer related experience I had in a long time"
You must not install a lot of operating systems... heheh - danuab, on 05/22/2009, -0/+5A lot of people seem to have taken your hilarious message seriously!
- lemur, on 05/22/2009, -0/+5So dat's de factor, eh?
- MrTea, on 05/22/2009, -1/+6my only complaints with win7 is explorer's lack of tabs and the lack of configurable hotkeys (I know I could just use autohotkey, but that's not the point)
otherwise, it's pretty damn good - nicc, on 05/22/2009, -0/+5yeah, but unless you know what you are searching for the searchbar is kind of useless...
- specialK16, on 05/22/2009, -0/+5ITT: Undeniable proof that apple users are a bunch of ***** idiots..
(See, I can lower myself to your level as well.) - Proz, on 05/22/2009, -0/+5Well, there was this one guy who reviewed Windows 7 on the basis of kernel thread count, but that was just silly.
- jakem1, on 05/22/2009, -0/+4The snipping tool is in Vista.
- bearcat8543, on 05/22/2009, -0/+4im gonna sound lame when i say this, but 2 great new features i thought were pretty were:
1- new mspaint. new brushes-these are f'in awesome!
2-snip it tool for cutting out screenshots on your screen- very cool - adjohnson916, on 05/22/2009, -0/+4I think most ISO's you'd obtain would be... *ahem* eye-patched and wooden-legged *ahem*
But it does seem ridiculous considering they release software to virtualize hard drives and entire OS's, that they won't wrap in a free tool to virtualize CD drives...of course it's not necessary considering the myriad of freeware out there, but still...WTF Microsoft? - ron7852, on 05/22/2009, -0/+4Unless you have some way of "eliminating" douchebag hackers.... Some form of antivirus will always be needed.
- nicc, on 05/22/2009, -0/+3@vfred:
you know every obscure name Microsoft has given something even before you have used it?
my hat's off to ya... - missgranger, on 05/22/2009, -1/+4I am yet to run across a blatant negative review of the Windows 7 Beta. Keeping my fingers crossed.
- jamesmcm, on 05/22/2009, -0/+3That's what I said - that *Nix has been capable of it for decades.
mount is standard in the GNU and BSD userland and will do it easily.
It's insane that Windows still ignores this problem. - ron7852, on 05/22/2009, -1/+4Every OS has its security flaws... The only reason Windows is targeted so much, is because windows has about a 90% market share. Why would a hacker waste their time writing a virus for a mac that will affect 8 or 9% of the population when he could make one for windows and affect way more people?
- Daniel0, on 05/22/2009, -1/+4kevcool, if all the other operating systems are so secure as you make them out to be, would you mind explaining me why China had to make a customized FreeBSD and why NSA started SELinux.
- MeltingIce, on 05/22/2009, -0/+3I didn't know about this until you mentioned it and I googled it, so thanks :) It is pretty cool but its slow as ass for me... maybe its just my internets
- jimv1983, on 05/22/2009, -0/+3Actually I'm pretty happy with Windows 7. I'm just saying they shouldn't have their product's fuctionality rely on another business staying in business.
- expby, on 05/22/2009, -0/+2I really like "Windows 7 includes the Windows Biometric Framework, which gives developers an API they can use to build biometrics into applications".
Great feature :-) I think it will be great to integrate biometric authentication to some software. - MicrosoftBob, on 05/22/2009, -1/+3Some people are never happy....
- MicrosoftBob, on 05/22/2009, -0/+2I see where you're coming from; it was a 'friendly' jab.
But I haven't noticed the Flickr rss built right into windows explorer. I also googled it. (Maybe I'm just slow today.) Anybody got links? - AdmiralAcbar, on 05/22/2009, -0/+2iso recorder. look it up.
- ron7852, on 05/22/2009, -1/+3I have been using windows 7 since the beta was first announced, and i upgraded to RC1 when it came out. I am running it on a 1.9ghz dual core laptop with 3 GB of RAM. Windows 7 has always run totally flawless for me and i am yet to have any issues with it at all. And, to top it all off, when i installed Windows 7, the only driver i had to install was my touchpad driver. Windows 7 is really nice. If you are having issues with it, your doing something wrong.
- jakem1, on 05/22/2009, -1/+3Anyone who really needs this is likely to know where to get it.
- doctor26d, on 05/22/2009, -0/+2I had the LAN issue as well, reinstalling NIC drivers fixed the issue for me.
- NoNameWorks, on 05/22/2009, -4/+6I don't know why, but the beta was a lot more stable on this computer than the RC. I have two major issues:
1. Sometimes the open file - security warning freezes
2. LAN doesn't work after waking up from sleep
Minor issue is that it is really slow to shutdown.
I reported these issues, so hopefully they are resolved before the final release. -
