- LeeSoong, on 08/10/2008, -2/+259for a moment there I thought Playboy was coming out with it's own Linux distro...
- wontstoptalking, on 08/10/2008, -3/+56What I'm actually most excited for is Mobile Ubuntu.
http://www.ubuntu.com/products/mobile - cbeach, on 08/10/2008, -0/+49Some of the games available today:
"irrlamb is a 3D game that involves a lot of physics and frustrating gameplay."
"Barbie Seahorse Adventures is an exciting side-scrolling game where Barbie the Seahorse floats on bubbles to the moon"
"gbrainy is a brain teaser game and trainer to have fun and to keep your brain trained "
"ri-li is a really nice wooden toy train game. The goal is to control your wooden toy train through the rails and collect all the special items"
The first thing that the Playbuntu developers need to tackle is the marketing issue with existing Linux games, and sort the wheat from the chaff. - DontEatTheFish, on 08/10/2008, -1/+42$ sudo touch self;

$ touch self; - sedaghatfar, on 08/10/2008, -2/+37sudo apt-get install Crisis
sudo apt-get upgrade Age-Of-Conan
maybe now it will work - Smwbigboss, on 08/10/2008, -0/+20This is an additional repository you can add to a normal Ubuntu install. Most other programs are on the default repositories.
- dacomputerfreak, on 08/10/2008, -0/+19Agreed. There's some good games for Linux but quite a few of them are pretty lame and reduces the appeal of Linux gaming. The best games need to be in the limelight on getdeb and also other sites. Marketing is an issue as well because even the best games can sound ***** if the geeky developer is the same person doing the marketing.
- Vadi0, on 08/10/2008, -2/+20Yeah, that never will happen on Windows. You're right ;)
- plr4ever, on 08/10/2008, -1/+19As long as the package you want has a ppc version.
- sat0shi, on 08/10/2008, -1/+18No, I don't. Both of those are awful, awful games.
- inactive, on 08/10/2008, -0/+17It's not a distro... did you even bother to read the article?
- LeeSoong, on 08/10/2008, -1/+17$ man woman
- No manual entry for woman.
$ - kingfoot, on 08/10/2008, -0/+16for now
- sx66gns, on 08/10/2008, -1/+15nothing plays crysis douchbag.
- CCmachined, on 08/10/2008, -0/+12many of the games need 3D rendering...
the PS3's graphic card is disabled when you boot Linux on it >.> - t94xr, on 08/10/2008, -1/+13you're kidding right?
Yes you can... - carlhudson, on 08/10/2008, -3/+14will this work with linux on PS3 ?
- Vadi0, on 08/10/2008, -0/+9Just wait a bit and it'll come up. The repo isn't ready yet; this is just an announcement that one will be made.
- joaolpinto, on 08/10/2008, -0/+9We are actually working on our main infrastructure refresh also. Thanks for the warning.
- Vadi0, on 08/10/2008, -0/+8Yes, you easily could 'add' this to any Ubuntu (or a derivative of it, possibly) when it's launched.
- Vadi0, on 08/10/2008, -0/+8It's back now.
- Vadi0, on 08/10/2008, -0/+7Yep - new mirrors are welcome, if you got any!
- Vadi0, on 08/10/2008, -0/+7Heh, it's *exactly* not another distro. =)
- UNL1M1T3D, on 08/10/2008, -0/+6My friends and I came up with our own variant of Ubuntu called Rebuntu. It's essentially the same as regular Ubuntu except it reboots every 30 seconds. It's pretty useless.
- BlkGuyAtThePrty, on 08/10/2008, -0/+6I like it. I've already downloaded and installed Gridwars and Warsow. It'll be great once the repos are up and the games can auto-update.
- Vadi0, on 08/10/2008, -0/+5If the distribution terms of those games permit it, and they're "free as in beer", then we certainly can include them. Please use the contact form (http://getdeb.net/contact.php) or launchpad directly (https://bugs.launchpad.net/getdeb.net) to file a request.
- KineticShampoo, on 08/10/2008, -1/+6About ***** time! It's too much of a hastle to update games. Linux is looking very nice, I think it'll just get bigger and bigger with the mainstream audience.
- byrdgang, on 08/10/2008, -0/+5Not donating a penny and complaining about it being slow...amazing. No conglomerate is behind Getdeb...don't be surprised if it doesn't work as well as some giant server farms.
- compacho, on 08/10/2008, -0/+5Good to hear, and thanks for the quick response. I try to use getdeb as much as I can so I'm really hopeful for playdeb.
- ModernDayDarwin, on 08/10/2008, -1/+5Your point will be lost on most, but you could have at least chosen good games.
- Vadi0, on 08/10/2008, -0/+4This is about playing Linux games on Linux, lol.
- theOster, on 08/10/2008, -1/+5ditto
- smrekar, on 08/10/2008, -1/+5Debbie Does Ubuntu
- emblemparade, on 08/10/2008, -0/+4I would be happy if getdeb managed to create a repository for all their .deb files, though dabbling with the Debian APT system myself, I can testify that it's anything but straightforward, and possibly rightly so -- APT is an incredibly well-though-out repository system capable of maintaining whole operating system ecologies, such as Debian GNU/Linux and Ubuntu, with support for multiple architectures, versioning, patches, etc.
That said, I really wish there was some way to circumvent APT's full glory, and perhaps offer an "APT light" repository, compatible with APT, but simply a collection of .deb files on a file system. Can someone write this? (Other than me... :) )
I'd like to thank the getdeb team for their work! They fill a very necessary niche in the Ubuntu software ecology, smack between well-maintained repositories on Launchpad and maligned "building-the-tarball-from-source". I've often gone there to get the latest and greatest software in just a few clicks. - TheThirdLevel, on 08/10/2008, -0/+4Reply button is your friend. Use it.
- JohnCub, on 08/10/2008, -0/+4Title led me to believe it was a porn-based linux distro to be had.
Alas. let down yet again. - nebkiwi, on 08/10/2008, -0/+3scy1192, the PS3 uses a PowerPC cell processor.. its PowerPC, All main games consoles have PowerPC processors.
- OstrakonX, on 08/11/2008, -0/+3Doesn't sound right.
Debbie Does Debian, though... - deroderugridder, on 08/10/2008, -0/+3I digged you as I admire people with inspiration.
- Vadi0, on 08/11/2008, -0/+3That would make a lot of sense. Virus-free adult website and porn browsing.
- SpamDog, on 08/10/2008, -1/+4Would be great if they could then incorporate this with Mythbuntu!
- sx66gns, on 08/10/2008, -1/+4fantastic.
- maccam94, on 08/10/2008, -0/+3There's already wine-doors which is fairly similar to what you describe. And Cedega.
- AzureRise, on 08/10/2008, -0/+3Any idea if proprietary games will be in there? Like Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. It would be a lot easier to install proprietary games if apt-get would handle all the dependencies and configure it properly. I know Quake 2 and 3 are in an Ubuntu repository.
While Open Source games are great, they should also focus on free proprietary games and commercial games like everything by id Software, the Unreal Tournament series, The Postal series, Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, and all the other non free games released for Linux. - Vadi0, on 08/10/2008, -0/+3Not many, that's why this isn't another Ubuntu!
- thevoiceless, on 08/10/2008, -0/+3This isn't a derivative, idiot. It's a repository for software.
- scy1192, on 08/10/2008, -0/+3Marketing needs some better names. Seriously.
- MeneerR, on 08/12/2008, -0/+2Yeah, maybe you can get the pirate bay to host something like that. Because it sure aint going to be legal.
