- z0mbie2099, on 12/13/2007, -2/+37This a perfect distro for the Asus Eee.
- Fragmatic, on 12/13/2007, -0/+29Care to state WHY it's junk, or is this just mindless "hurr macs r bettar" trolling?
- Myztry, on 12/13/2007, -0/+17Microsoft has barely finished giving lip service about a custom version of XP and already the Ubuntu version is done.
Open Source. Linux's Genuine Advantage. - jull1234, on 12/13/2007, -0/+13eee X ubuntu... yeilds a vector in the direction of awesome?
- Fragmatic, on 12/13/2007, -1/+13OSX runs pretty slow on the eee and there's no wifi, so there's not a lot you can do with it. :(
- jtwyrrpirate, on 12/13/2007, -0/+12http://distrowatch.com too

Isn't Google awesome? - Fragmatic, on 12/13/2007, -0/+10Awesome, I was wondering when there'd be an Eee-specific distro.
Gonna give this a shot as I seem to have destroyed my xubuntu install on it. - sparrowkc, on 12/13/2007, -5/+15WELL I SAY LINUX IS INFINITY TO THE INFINANTH POWER BETTER THAN MAC AND INFINITY TO THE INFINANTH POWER PLUS ONE BETTER THAN XP.

http://wiki.eeeuser.com/ubuntu:eeexubuntu:home - aaronm67, on 12/13/2007, -0/+9The eeePC is $400 and very, very portable. There isn't a Mac that compares.
- Ademan, on 12/13/2007, -2/+10obvious troll is obvious.
*block* - inactive, on 12/13/2007, -0/+8Dude, its not meant to be a full-fledged computer, just a small, portable one. A Mac isn't that portable, or cheap.
/A Mac owner myself - pakkman781, on 12/13/2007, -0/+7Please, good people of the internets, remember that this douchebag does not represent the Mac community as a whole. Not all of us are such asshats.
I'm a long time Mac user, and I got an Eee PC when they first became available here in the US. It's a fantastic machine, and eeeXubuntu will make it even better (wish they'd called it Eeebuntu instead, but whatever). It's a tiny, fully capable laptop for $400, and that simply kicks ass. - depro9, on 12/13/2007, -1/+8What about fluxbuntu? ;)
http://fluxbuntu.org/js.html - MikeCerm, on 12/13/2007, -0/+6Check the bottom of the page. You have to click through the blog post, of course.
- inactive, on 12/13/2007, -0/+6not a fair comparison.
Windows versions are linear upgrades, Linux "versions" are parallel forks (with linear upgrades within each branch). Generally each distro will only have 1 or 2 supported versions. Debian, for example, offers 'stable/etch' 'testing/lenny' and 'unstable/sid' for various levels of cutting-edge and stability. Also, much of the major complaint about the many versions has to do with the price discrepancies; this is a non-issue with linux. - chingy1788, on 12/13/2007, -9/+14oh yeah
Anti-Linux Party rules!!! - KataLieb, on 12/13/2007, -0/+5A powerhungry monster of a windows on my beautiful made-for-linux lappy? Sacrilege!
- Mohdoo, on 12/13/2007, -0/+5Any word on power usage? I know that Ubuntu was using more power than the Xandros OS...How about this xubuntu?
- Dalatejc, on 12/13/2007, -1/+6Is there a web page with all the different Distro's listed? I hear about a new one with every linux article..
- chugger1992, on 12/13/2007, -2/+7if that name isn't an eyesore, I don't know what is.
But congratulations on getting it to run. - ashytaka, on 01/29/2008, -0/+4I wish I could digg this more than once...
- glitch47, on 12/13/2007, -2/+6your DS flash cart can windows XP?
- foomandoonian, on 12/13/2007, -1/+4Wouldn't Eeebuntu be a better name?
- inactive, on 12/13/2007, -0/+3http://futurist.se/gldt/gldt76.png
shows a nice timeline/family-tree of all the distros. - lonnieh, on 12/13/2007, -0/+3hmm, linux+apache seems to be doing a good job at serving you web pages. digg comes to mind.
- inactive, on 12/13/2007, -0/+3www.distrowatch.com
I think your question was more rhetorical but... - pikelet, on 12/13/2007, -0/+3Last time I checked the DS was useless for doing any actual work. Y'know, not having a QWERTY keyboard and all (touchscreen ones don't count, impossible to use!), plus not being able to multitask. DS flash carts are for games and music - it's not comparable to the EeePC.
- macoafi, on 12/13/2007, -0/+3Upcoming? Fluxbuntu was released like 3 days after Gutsy.
- daftman, on 12/13/2007, -3/+5wow, a party dedicate just to hate linux. How ***** pathetic.
- Ademan, on 12/13/2007, -0/+2sudo apt-get install fluxbox
log out
change session type to fluxbox
log back in
Fluxbuntu is a nice idea, but i don't think it really serves anyone that well seeing as getting fluxbox going yourself is a breeze. I suppose it may hold some value for computers where you dont want to even spend a second in GNOME because it'd be too slow. - sx66gns, on 12/13/2007, -0/+2yea , I'm not sure if you were being rhetorical but this man has spoken truth , there's also http://www.cafelinux.org/distropedia/ a buddy of mine runs but not as professional as distrowatch which has rss , those two are the authority on up to date distro listings.
- motang, on 12/13/2007, -0/+2Oh sweet, I was looking for something like this.
- inactive, on 12/13/2007, -4/+6Perfect? The guy doesn't even point out what changes did he made to Xubuntu to make worth the installation or to at least know how this distro could have an special impact on the EEE performance.
- paulsmith288, on 12/13/2007, -0/+2I have read that the eee pc with its default OS boots in ten seconds. If this is true, can anyone tell me how long this ubuntu derivative takes to boot?
Also, whats the power management support like? - Vinvin, on 12/13/2007, -1/+3No, it's based on Xubuntu. Perhaps Xeeebuntu...
- KataLieb, on 12/13/2007, -0/+2The Ubuntu versions boot in 40-60 seconds afaik. The custom OS has several optimizations for boot-time, and if im correct its also a somewhat stripped-down distro to keep it slim and fast booting...So to get the same boot time with Ubuntu youd have to do some more optimization..
- jakethecake, on 12/13/2007, -0/+2http://wiki.eeeuser.com/ubuntu:eeexubuntu:home
- duggfunny, on 12/13/2007, -0/+1i was just about to get one of these things(eeepc), then news about the cloudbook comes out the other day. and I said "well *****." I'm thinkin' I'll wait till mid Jan when the Cloudbook/Nanobook is supposed to be out and see if it stays at 400, then decide. anyone else in the same boat?
- kappacelu, on 12/13/2007, -0/+1Now i am really thinking about buying an Eee, because i think Ubuntu is the best distro for home-use (it has some pluses about the laptop compatibility too)
- Domstersch, on 12/13/2007, -0/+1Looks like (from the list of changes) he hasn't disabled logging. I'm running Xubuntu on my eeepc with /var/log set to a ramdisk - works well, and results in less disk writes.
- MattBD, on 12/13/2007, -0/+1Xubuntu is an ideal distro for the EeePC. I appreciate why they preinstall it with Xandros - after all, it apes Windows in appearance, and it's aimed at people who are used to a Windows PC, but KDE is probably the most heavyweight of the Linux desktops (and I'm a Kubuntu user). Xfce is lighter so it'd probably be better suited to it.
I'd quite like to see gOS installed on it, after all Enlightenment would probably be faster and gOS is a great distro for non-technical users. - bzaks, on 12/13/2007, -0/+1Balmer.... is that you?
Maybe Windows wouldn't be such a pain in the arse if you weren't such a jerk to your "developers developers developers!!!"
Although, for getting a rouse out of the digg community, I digg you back up :) - ukblacknight, on 12/13/2007, -0/+1No, something like "BUSH RULEZ" or "ron paul ftw" would get the most buried comment award.
- KataLieb, on 12/13/2007, -0/+1Hehe :) Exactly...I bet MS lowers the price of XP to 5 euros per license soon to be able to compete with Linux on low-end laptops and such :p
