- wedderburn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I've seen XGL/compiz, theres no going back to simple transparency.
- diggapleaze, on 10/12/2007, -2/+116.8? I hate to say it but that's old hat now considering X.org is on version 7.1.
- praveenmarkandu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6this is so true. at first i got nausea when using XGL. now i cant seem to get enough of it and cant go back to static windows. cube ftw!
- mccord, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Super Digg Blockfeature Pro ----- Unlimited SPACE on teh blockinglist!
http://digg.com/userblock/625369 - Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Shouldn't the regular window managers (Metacity, kwm, etc.) support transparency natively by now? xcompmgr is a hack. WM coders should be hot on integrating their own composition managers...but I guess they're waiting for AIGLX or XEGL or whatever (XGL is a hack, too).
- diggapleaze, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm just reading from the wiki "This guide is going to show you how to get X.org 6.8 up and running on Linux..."
Someone should update it! - diggapleaze, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3ok nvm i changed it
- gommle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2xcompmgr is what i used before XGL/Compiz. Since i got my 7800GT I've always been a fan of unnecessary eye-candy :P
- diggapleaze, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2reported
- Sutoka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1KWin supports the old XComposite extension (via kompmgr), and Metacity supports the opengl composite on Xgl/AIGLX (don't know about plain 'ol xcomposite on non-xgl/aiglx).
- nubtard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not that I use transparency at the moment but I suppose it gives you the feeling that you have more desktop space than you really do which is always nice. I could certainly use a transparent terminal. I don't like having window borders transparent, though.
- sumadartson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The only thing interesting about this article were the guy's backgrounds. Especially the fourth one.
Xcompgr... For the love of your favorite deity, this was old last year... - Phocion55, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Maybe you skipped over Step 1: Getting the latest X.org.
Nice guide, bonlebon. Gentoo Wiki ftw. - rabiddawgr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0xcompmgr is ...old,hackish and buggy current solutions are much more stable plus most WMs support tranparency natively
- ordminute, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2This is a little old no? I thought most people were on >= X.org 7.0 by now?
- badapplestudio, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0XGL/compiz is da 5h1t
...although I expect Mac OS 10.5 to have some new OpenGL tricks not mentioned. - AUniqueName, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1What is so good about transparency anyways?
- CharlesDarwin, on 10/12/2007, -12/+1It's a wiki *****.
