- Craga89, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13Very very nice. Really looking forward to being able to hot plug monitors and getting rid of the xorg.conf file.
- jdhore1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12X.Org updates add a lot of really nice stuff...I only hope it's all as cool as it sounds.
- schestowitz, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12Wait until the next version...

Linux MPX Multi-touch Table May Become Alternative Microsoft Surface
,----[ Quote ]
| It may not be as fancy-schmancy as Microsoft Surface or Jeff Han's demos but
| this video of a Linux-based MPX multi-touch table shows that things are
| moving full speed ahead in the land of the free penguins.

http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/touch-me/linux-mpx-multi+touch-table-may-become-free-diy-microsoft-surface-one-day-278613.php - manitoba98xp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8The X Window System is the generic name for the "protocol" (for lack of a better word), but there are multiple implementations, such as XFree86 and X.Org. Yes, it's called X.Org. Really.
- Urusai, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Pfft, only for people with ancient ATI cards. Those of us who mistakenly bought a newer ATI card can't get decent support from neither FOSS nor ATI. I'll never make that mistake again.
- ksool, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4As cool as multi-touch input will be, I'm much more pumped for display hot-plugging support, a feature long overdue that'll definitely make it easier to use Linux on a corporate/office laptop (presentations and such). Hopefully, this will make working with two displays of different resolutions a lot smoother too
Updates to EXA and the radeon driver sound mighty promising too...yet, admittedly, not nearly as cool as multi-pointer support. - LordofShadows, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Bug amd/ati about it, they keep telling us they're working on it. In the meantime I bought a nvidia card.
- Wyzard, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4That depends on AIGLX support, which the open-source ATI driver already has. The *proprietary* ATI driver still doesn't support AIGLX, but the Xorg developers can't do anything about that; only ATI can.
In short, no. - deadlikeoscar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I would imagine it brings them a lot more downloads. :-)
- jdhore1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3They're not getting rid of it, it's just now your system will be able to go to X without one but you won't have 3D, dual-monitor, etc...It'll be very basic till you fix it and put one in.
- LordofShadows, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2X is a graphical display server which communicated via standard protocols; Call it a server.
- Wyzard, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It isn't.
- xspinkickx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1this is great news, and 7.4 looks promising.
- Giga, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Why should I wait until the next version? This version has features I want and if we always waited for the next version, we would be waiting indefinitely.
- MrShlee, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Excellent work :)
Should we finally be able to use Ubuntu with Beryl under ATI cards? - KungFuJesus, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3I agree. WTF is with OpenOffice.org, that name is stupid. If they just called it OpenOffice it'd roll off of the tongue better
- Giga, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0I could do that already in 7.1.
- yevkasem, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1the project name is just "X", not "X.org".
- projectstartrek, on 10/10/2007, -7/+2I wish that they would stop naming FOSS after the url...
- unixballer, on 10/10/2007, -8/+2yes ...going as planed
- kidlinux, on 10/10/2007, -11/+1How can it be a preview of 10 year old technology?
