- DrivingVertigo, on 07/28/2008, -2/+34Cooking is what they do while they wait for the code to compile.
- afx1, on 07/28/2008, -17/+44pics or they don't exist
- Kcaj, on 07/28/2008, -0/+24When you said your "X girlfriend" I thought you were going to tell us you used to date Gnome or KDE. Or a girl named Katie that looked like a gnome.
- chicalinux, on 07/28/2008, -1/+21I have been a Linux enthusiast and active user for more than 10 years (writing my own bash scripts, compiling my own kernels from scratch, tweaking GUIs, etc.) and I am glad to say that at least, in my experience, I have always enjoyed great support from the wonderful guys in the Unix/Linux field and LUGs. I do wish that more girls come to the Linux "club" and help change the current paradigm. ;-D

- Punch405, on 07/28/2008, -0/+17But was she a Qt?
- anchora, on 07/28/2008, -2/+19This is great, but I still feel sad awareness has to be raised about this type of thing, instead of people just knowing that women use and contribute to Linux.
That being said, I'll be going back to the kitchen now. I have grilled cheese on the stove. :3 - irishjays, on 07/28/2008, -6/+22speaking of linux and women, I ran into my X girlfriend at a mutual friend's wedding a few days ago. I had installed Linux on her computer while we were dating. we were catching up briefly and she told me, Lo and behold the guy she is dating now who was also at the wedding, was a linux user even "more advanced" than I. Hoping he would be the answer to all her linux prayers, she had him try to fix some driver issues on her computer, but he couldn't, he didn't have the root password. The thing is that password is my computers root password too, so I told her I forgot it. No way her new boyfriend "linuxmaster" dude is getting that from me, no way! Bwahahahaha!
- herman82, on 07/28/2008, -7/+22It would be nice to see this hit the front page. Say what you want about Microsoft, they are very progressive when it comes to “equal opportunity” (or whatever it is called in english) for women and people with different sexual orientations.
- mickstephenson, on 07/28/2008, -0/+13What an odd taste in men she has
- addicted68098, on 07/29/2008, -0/+11Buried for being sexist
Then Later Dugg for creativity - sonar1, on 07/28/2008, -6/+18claas, you haveth none
- analw0rt, on 07/28/2008, -0/+12"more advanced than you"... He had physical access to her and her machine... the root password is irrelevant. Both can be compromised easily. I think in the time it takes to reboot, I would have root and she would be on my root.
- mickstephenson, on 07/28/2008, -1/+12I'm still waiting on those 2 jokes you promised...
- irishjays, on 07/28/2008, -0/+10She was very well built and capable of multi-tasking, but needed a "windowed environment" to make her more user friendly.
- CalvinMonk, on 07/28/2008, -1/+10This may not go over well in 13 yr. old land
But, not all women need to be judged by your desire to have sex with them or how hot they are.
- Honeyblade, on 07/28/2008, -1/+10You wanna hear another one? You ever getting a date.
- inactive, on 07/28/2008, -3/+11What's with women having to be encouraged to do great great things? Why aren't women driven to doing hard science and tech because it's challenging? History will record that Linux was another achievement largely done by men and women contributed little to it. If women don't like such a statement, they should start doing something such that it's no longer true.
- dampeal, on 07/28/2008, -10/+17How did this make it to the front page with no pics?
- reisrocks, on 07/28/2008, -2/+9I got my gf into using linux.. and I work with a very linux savvy chick.
Definitely makes my day, every day. - krisscofield, on 07/28/2008, -2/+9$> cd /refrigerator

I kid, I kid. I'm actually not too surprised by this article. There a good number of women on the Ubuntu forums, and I know a handful of women in real life who use whichever distro because (a) They don't want to fork over the $$ to upgrade their PC, or (b) they are sick of Windows. - lukasmach, on 07/28/2008, -3/+10The title of this post couldn't have had bigger percentage of "digg keywords".
- xeic, on 07/28/2008, -2/+9Here you have some pictures: http://women.debian.org/profiles/
@muniak Erinn Clark and Hanna Wallach are very cute, with high education and intelligent. Try to get a girl like those, if you can. - m3mn0n, on 07/28/2008, -0/+6I clicked the link and then another and ended up on this page:
http://www.valhenson.org/parents.html
And from a few more link clicks spent an hour reading about a child molestation case and Scientology's war against a guy.
That was actually a pretty interesting read. Better than the geek feminist propaganda I was expecting. - Chakat, on 07/28/2008, -1/+7The problem is the multitudes of troglodytes that say things like "there are no girls on the internet", which essentially necessitate female technologists to shout out and proclaim their identity. If those sexist troglodytes didn't exist, neither would shouts of empowerment needed to assert that females do in fact exist.
- morninglorii, on 07/29/2008, -0/+6I'm actually impressed and proud that it did. I'm no feminist, but I recognize that your comment would've been really weird if the story was just "Students in Linux" (and was comprised of mostly men).
- fixious, on 07/28/2008, -3/+9Cultural upbringing and sexism in technical fields, among others. Yes, ultimately, women should take the actions to prove themselves, but the playing field is not even to start with, so there's no harm in a little extra cheering.
- elementop, on 07/28/2008, -0/+6Read the replies in this thread, and you'll see why women in Linux need a shout once in a while...sigh.
- Kcaj, on 07/28/2008, -2/+7I'd trade a first edition Charizard for a girlfriend who was Linux savvy.
- Paulish, on 07/28/2008, -1/+6Meh, maybe im ignorant but I don't really know any of the major male contributors either. Maybe contributors in general need more recognition.
- ausfahrt, on 07/28/2008, -0/+5How about "Linux Women".
- GiggleStick, on 07/28/2008, -0/+5They're great at nagging you to fix bugs. Amiright?!
- krc1, on 07/29/2008, -0/+5And you're absolutely certain neither of them read Digg?
- Rudegar, on 07/28/2008, -2/+7recall a story about all those women receiving death threads by mail pretty messed up
- Kral, on 07/29/2008, -0/+4This could be the reason there are so few women in tech..
- Kcaj, on 07/28/2008, -2/+6I'm strangely aroused after reading your reply.
- louiebaur, on 07/28/2008, -3/+7Nice
- tacojohn48, on 07/28/2008, -1/+5Are you saying it wasn't all created by LInus? You speak heresy.

- evilgourmet, on 07/29/2008, -0/+4he must be truly "advanced" if he doesn't know 'linux 1'.

Also Eric Allman, who worked on sendmail and BSD. His boyfriend made fsck. - BlackAdderIII, on 07/31/2008, -0/+3Not being po-faced and over-serious, but some of the comments on this submission make reddit look like some kind of awesome meeting of minds.
Impressive. - inactive, on 07/29/2008, -0/+3Your post is convenient because it accidentally reveals why you can't have a girlfriend.
- inactive, on 07/29/2008, -0/+2Sexist? Do you know what the guys are called in Ubuntu?
