- YokoZar, on 05/30/2008, -1/+148Yes, I've already put the new version up at the Ubuntu apt repository on budgetdedicated. To use it, go here: http://winehq.org/site/download-deb
When 1.0 final is released (in about two weeks), I'll backport it to Gutsy, Feisty, Edgy, and Dapper, and put those packages up in the repository as well. I'll also push the 1.0 packages through ubuntu-backports, so even if you've never used the budgetdedicated repository you'll be able to get 1.0 when it comes out. - mysticmatrix, on 05/30/2008, -2/+80But will it run [insert app name] ?
http://appdb.winehq.org/ - stealthc, on 05/31/2008, -8/+66Hey, I thought getting past version 0.9 was forbidden in open source.
- Sammi84, on 05/30/2008, -9/+66And remember people: Wine Is Not an Emulator.
I's a compatibility layer and a re-implementation of the Win32 API. Performance is on par with native apps. - Sammi84, on 05/30/2008, -2/+47You're the man.
- 4DFX, on 05/30/2008, -2/+42I love you
- austin987, on 05/30/2008, -1/+32If you'd like to help wine, run the conformance tests on your wine/windows box:
http://wiki.winehq.org/ConformanceTests - ertz, on 05/31/2008, -1/+31it's strange that 1.0 is so close... what happened to the footage of the real alien that was supposed to be released today?
- akkibaba, on 05/31/2008, -0/+29This is a full-bodied WINE, with subtle hints of freedom and dark fruit.
- romulasry, on 05/30/2008, -5/+33In before whining about Wine from Windows washers...
- inactive, on 05/30/2008, -9/+36Let's get this sucker on the front page!
- illegalamigo, on 05/31/2008, -0/+26I don't think you know what a pun is.
- deathfix, on 05/31/2008, -1/+23Yes. Seriously.
- YokoZar, on 05/31/2008, -0/+22You are nice enough to test if our DLLs are a drop-in replacement for Windows ones and then report bugs for us
- inactive, on 05/31/2008, -2/+22Do you people have to click on the story every single time there is a wine release and complain about it? Seriously.
- inactive, on 05/31/2008, -1/+20Thank you for answering my question before I even seriously thought about the possibility of it not being on the repo yet.
- MistaMatt90, on 05/31/2008, -0/+19You are a developer who happens to use Windows.
- newbill123, on 05/31/2008, -0/+19Wine isn't sufficient for me on Vista;
I need Vodka. - neko, on 05/31/2008, -1/+20Thank you. It's because of people like you that I can set a bunch of software packages installing, go get a drink, and come back to have it all set up and working. I remember when I had to become a web-trawling click-monkey for these tasks.
- Purin, on 05/31/2008, -3/+21Yes.
- Shaggy63, on 05/31/2008, -3/+21Yes
- tito13kfm, on 05/31/2008, -3/+21No thanks. I'd rather use a free implementation that works fine for what I use it for while still having the security, performance, and stability of linux.
- charlie763, on 05/31/2008, -1/+19Yes
- YokoZar, on 05/31/2008, -1/+18Bronze is the proper rating here, since if it actually runs at all it's better than "garbage". I agree though, perhaps we should replace Bronze with something less nice-sounding, like tin.
At any rate, someone should really test Crysis with Wine 1.0-rc3, as the latest report on there is with a version about 3-4 months out of date. - Sammi84, on 05/31/2008, -0/+16Not everything is games. Regular programs that only use the more complete parts of Wine run great.
DirectX is one of the things where Wine is still in heavy development, but when it's more complete, you'll see it will be on par too. - scstraus, on 05/31/2008, -0/+14Oh my god, 1.0? I've been waiting 13 years for this day!
- YokoZar, on 05/31/2008, -1/+14Apparently, people like Wine. It's got about 2 million users now, 800 thousand on Ubuntu alone.
- crazyjake, on 05/31/2008, -2/+15you just commited Digg heresy!!
- melat0nin, on 05/31/2008, -1/+13Just as I opened this page, mu Update Manager notification popped up with one update... and it was wine. Now that's what I'm talking about!
- 4DFX, on 05/31/2008, -1/+12"windows / mac fanboys back me up on this one"
Epic fail - Shootfast, on 05/31/2008, -1/+11http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=a ...
- rageguy, on 05/31/2008, -0/+9Because if they get DX10 support in Wine it will allow XP users to play DX10 games without getting forced to upgrade.
- srg13, on 05/31/2008, -1/+10For one or two apps? Really not worth it in my opinion.
- YokoZar, on 05/31/2008, -0/+9This happens every release for a little while as the mirrors try to get in sync.
- TheCosmicFool, on 05/31/2008, -0/+9So uhh, thanks a tonne YokoZar and team!
- 4DFX, on 05/31/2008, -0/+9I sure can't either. Got better things to wait for.
- ogisdan, on 05/31/2008, -2/+10im on wine right now with steam. its decent, but nothing like windows.
- mijelh, on 05/31/2008, -0/+8Then you should try it: VoDKA (Video on Demand Kernel Architecture) http://vodka.lfcia.org/
- Acglaphotis, on 05/31/2008, -0/+8You could always install by hand.
- Stonekeeper, on 05/31/2008, -0/+7Because it'll support legacy stuff vista wont?
- tito13kfm, on 05/31/2008, -0/+7Working fine now. Just a little glitch I guess.
- Echomote, on 05/31/2008, -0/+6Would wine in windows act as a sandbox? If so, many uses.
- PhireN, on 05/31/2008, -1/+7Upgrade to Hardy to get latest wine package...
or Install it manually...
or simply wait two weeks for it to be backported to gutsy...
Meh, I'm feeling lazy.
You do such a good job at packaging, so I'll just wait. - tcpip4lyfe, on 05/31/2008, -4/+10Wine has made amazing strides but it still has a long ways to go. I really wish I knew enough about programming to contribute. Microsoft should make linux version of office 2007.
- Peterix, on 05/31/2008, -0/+6I don't want to mess with that crap anymore.
- Daniel0, on 05/31/2008, -0/+6wtf does that have to do with the release of wine 1.0 rc3? Moron...
- rhinofinger, on 05/31/2008, -0/+5Photoshop CS3?
- diggimator, on 05/31/2008, -0/+5Vodka : that sounds like a good name for a Vista clone
- Ratteler, on 05/31/2008, -1/+6Nothing runs in Vista anyway. Why should this?
- alexforcefive, on 05/31/2008, -0/+4Is your steam friends/chat function working? This bug is killing me - http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9771
