- mikesbaker, on 10/13/2007, -2/+23oh noes - ebay is going to single handedly kill linux with a flash game that no one would have seen if it hadn't been for this story on digg.
also level three is wearing the BSOD shirt so quit crying http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=v5yete&s=2
the game is seriously not fun - TheWiseNoob, on 10/13/2007, -2/+20I highly doubt that will slow down Linux adoption. Get your head out of your ass and realize people like you are what slow down Linux adoption, not 5x5 pictures of Tux shown on a "scammers" shirt on an Australian webpage that shows you how to protect yourself from scammers. Very few people will ever visit that page, let alone notice what's on the bald guy's shirt.
- TheRascalKing, on 10/13/2007, -0/+7I have an idea, lets write an open letter. That'll do the trick!
- Dumbledorito, on 10/13/2007, -0/+6Ah, yes. Microsoft itself is behind this, and now 80% of eBay's patrons, all of whom are Linux users, will leave in droves.
Be insulted if you wish, but try to do so within the bounds of reason. - mikesbaker, on 10/13/2007, -0/+4yes mikesbaker at least 5 people commented without playing the game. sad really. i think this falls into the RTFA category
- ctishman, on 10/13/2007, -1/+4Oh for God's sake, people. You KNOW that this wasn't marketing doing this. Ebay obviously cheaped out and didn't hire models, and thus the guys who wrote the Flash game for Ebay Australia just took pictures of themselves to use on the page. They wear Linux and BSOD shirts, so that's what appeared in the game.
- frase, on 10/15/2007, -5/+8If you are offended by what is on this page (which is certainly fair enough), then whack off a friendly email to eBay and ask them to clear up what was most likely a silly, innocent mistake by some fool in the marketing/art department who didn't know what they were doing. Making a song and dance about it and GROSSLY exaggerating the content does not resolve the situation and only makes you look like a fool. The appearance of Tux on the page is absurd but your reaction to it is even more so.
- maou, on 10/13/2007, -1/+3Woah woah woah where's the vaunted open source ideology that linux people are always espousing? Shouldn't we all be free to exhibit and/or modify "Tux" as we see fit? I'll even post my .psd files so others can continue my work! £inux indeed!
- eclectro, on 10/14/2007, -0/+2Since when has ebay published an email address/phone number to contact a real human?
- Tsiolkovsky, on 10/14/2007, -12/+14We should all contact eBay and demand that they stop insulting Linux users this way. One can never stop being amazed what all those companies do to slow down Linux adoption. At times like this I keep getting a video from Rad Hat into my mind: Open Source is Inevitable - http://www.redhat.com/magazine/008jun05/features/i ...
- Dominatus, on 10/13/2007, -2/+4Don't be over-sensitive. The statement isn't "if you support Linux you're a scammer", the statement is scammers tend to be computer knowledgeable people (debatable), and people who knows computers well often times use or are familiar with Linux systems.
- sucks, on 10/13/2007, -0/+2Blue Screen of Death shirt? i'd buy it
- brotherfranciz, on 10/14/2007, -0/+2The balls that you use in the game have the same colour scheme as the anti-virus program "AVG".
- Smeed, on 10/13/2007, -1/+3Wahhh Wahhh!
- chieffy, on 10/13/2007, -0/+1I have posted the link to the feedback submission form below but here it is again:
http://contact.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Contac ... - beatryder, on 10/13/2007, -0/+1look again, you are mistaken
- eclectro, on 10/13/2007, -0/+1Since when has anybody been able to find a human to contact at ebay? Where is the email address? Phone number? Where should we send the mail to?
If people knew this they would have an avenue to complain, which ebay doesn't want. - Humptydank, on 10/13/2007, -0/+1If you and any of the hard-core MS conspiracists would put as much effort into finding out what the US government is *actually* doing to people, things that are ruining the country, the world, and getting people killed, and writing posts on them, you'd really be doing something productive. Or it doesn't have to be the US government, try Burma, or child poverty, something. I'm simply saying that you seem to have the energy to post on controversy, but you might consider that the "MS dominating the world" thing should come after a few people who, if they had their way, *would actually dominate the world.* Real comic book villain stuff. Have a look at Robert Mugabe in Zimbabwe. For the people that live there it's like Lex Luthor won.
Yes, MS bad, they just pushed OpenOffice off a few more desktops this week. But go to eff.org or Human Rights Watch and see if there are any issues you find more compelling. - chieffy, on 10/13/2007, -0/+1Here is a link to a feedback form for ebay Australia:
http://contact.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Contac ... - OfF3nSiV3, on 10/13/2007, -4/+5have you ever seen a hacker using Windows? No? so that image is pretty accurate..
- TheSwashbuckler, on 10/14/2007, -1/+2"One can never stop being amazed what all those companies do to slow down Linux adoption."
You're daft. Linux adoption is sssslllloooowwww all on its own. eBay ain't got to do nuthin'... - eclectro, on 10/13/2007, -0/+1Still there five minutes ago.
- chieffy, on 10/13/2007, -0/+1That's not the message I get.
- chieffy, on 10/13/2007, -0/+1You can also use the link below to get to a feedback form:
http://contact.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Contac ... - beatryder, on 10/13/2007, -0/+1It's the initial impression that the page makes that is the cause for concern.
- chieffy, on 10/13/2007, -0/+1What if he was black or asian. This is vilifying a minority group. They have actually gone out of their way to depict a scammer as a Linux user/lover. The message that sends is not just scammers = Linux users/lovers but also Linux users/lovers = scammers.
- Hydroxyl, on 10/13/2007, -1/+2If you play the game, one guy has a BSOD t-shirt.
It's all in the name of funny, chill out. - Browncoat, on 10/13/2007, -1/+1he obviously scammed someone into giving him that shirt
- aukxsona, on 10/13/2007, -1/+1I don't see it at all.
- Cymrubeats, on 10/14/2007, -2/+2Current methods of Scientific analysis have determined this submission to be *****.
- mikesbaker, on 10/13/2007, -2/+2its computer user stereo types play the fing game before you start whacking things off ok
- Samsong, on 10/13/2007, -2/+2Chill out or you'll all get your panties in a not.
- ferrariman60, on 10/13/2007, -1/+1Let's all sign a web petition. That will show them!!! (sarcasm)
- Trevahaha, on 10/13/2007, -1/+1If you continue playing the game you will see they have a lot of different shirts. One of them is a BSOD from Windows... so it's not a big deal.
- topace3000, on 10/13/2007, -2/+2I think it's hilarious. Maybe I'll contact them in support of it...
- firelion, on 10/13/2007, -1/+1oh god what a surprise paranoid linux fanboy. lets see how someone can turn this to something about apple and ron paul.
- inactive, on 10/13/2007, -3/+3Tell them your going to take down ebay.com because of intellectual property, they don't mind doing it to your auctions at all, same should apply to them.
- qbelek2, on 10/13/2007, -1/+1once again, don't take the t shirts too seriously...
- cgm1985, on 10/13/2007, -0/+0in a not?
- omarciddo, on 10/13/2007, -2/+2Dude. It's eBay. Relax.
- kimbellina, on 10/13/2007, -2/+2Here is how you can e-mail someone at eBay about this page:
http://tinyurl.com/26ga5a
You will need to sign in. I spoke to a rep from the live help area, and he said this would be the most efficient way to go about complaining. - Lulis, on 10/13/2007, -1/+0It's only a game!
- elcasey, on 10/13/2007, -9/+4I'll be contacting eBay today myself, even though I'm not in Australia. And nice nick, Tsiolkovsky. I've photographed his monument in Moscow. :D
- Adrianc333, on 10/13/2007, -12/+6Looks like they removed it.
- syroncoda, on 10/13/2007, -8/+2that is indeed a person sporting a tux emblem on his shirt. is this a sign that M$ has pushed ebay into pissing off a LOT of people? i bet their business drops because of this.
