I don't know how many countless times I've followed a howto to the letter and ended up with an error halfway through or the howto will use commands not available to me (even as root) with no explanation where it came from after the supposedly same fresh install.
People will claim that Linux has an abundance of documentation. They are correct, it does. However much of it is outdated, incomplete, or inadequate. Therefore I, for one, welcome new documentation of any kind to the Linux scene. - bbatsell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Take a look at Dovecot (http://dovecot.org/) instead of Courier. I've been using it for quite some time and I get much better performance than any other IMAP server I've ever used.
- millardkillmore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Love the headline. Why sum it up when you can just put together a bunch of what would be tags on any other site?
- noof, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I use almost all of that on my debian server, and I must say that SpamAssassin rocks. I've had 1 non-spam mail tagged as spam and like 5 spam mails that it missed (but thunderbird took care of that) of ~0,5k mails. It even identified a Swedish fraud attempt.

- risotto, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Also why bother doing all yourself? You could get the opensource version of zimbra and have exactly the same but with a much nicer webmail and lots of more features! http://www.zimbra.com/
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What I would like to know is what article exists, similar to this one, but for those whose ISPs block outbound connections on port 25!?
- gmillerd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why bother spamming us with something this guy just showed us how to do for free?

Most mail servers can be configured to listen on an alternate port for smtp servicies, with port 587 being the most common alternate port used. - nstrupp2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I haven't used the below guide for postfix, but I have used the one for qmail and it's very good and updated frequently (although on an old Red Hat). These also explain how to setup webmail.

- claco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0This was on Slashdot a while back. This how-to isn't all that great. The good ones are on the Postfix site itself @ http://www.postfix.org/docs.html
http://jimsun.linxnet.com/misc/postfix-anti-UCE.txt is one of the better ones IMHO. - TheSpider, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Postfix is a really good program for entry level e-mail serving, however its not the best. I have to say that for speed (depending on the configuration), sendmail, although lacking some features that Postfix has, it is still superior. Granted its a real pain to set-up, the process has been simplified drastically to what it use to be.
- risotto, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1OK, so where's the news here? Howtos like this were around for ages...
