- nineteenfive, on 11/18/2007, -22/+725 winners out of 15 (33%) belong to jury
7 out of 15 (47%) depict a leave in one way or another
9 out of 15 (60%) are mostly about plants
I suggest to give another try with the competition and why not be more open by letting people give ratings, but please don't allow jury to participate in the competition, this is unacceptable - ricperry1, on 11/18/2007, -3/+39From the article:

NOTICE:
Some people in the comments had some worries, and thought it may look suspicious seeing that some of the winning wallpapers are infact being done by some members of the jury. To them I want to answer the following things, which I’ve already answered in a comment replying to Tina:
We voted in a way so that we didn’t know who was the author of a certain wallpaper, the votes were secret, and we couldn’t vote for our wallpaper (the vote was the medium value of the other votes). The credit file was not associated at all with wallpapers.
So nothing to worry about, we’ve studied a voting system, we voted, and we took up the results *always* trying to make them in the most impartial way possible.
That’s exactly because we knew some of our wallpapers were in the competition. =)

It seems reasonable to me, and I also think their contributions should not be excluded from a community project. It's not like there was a monetary award. I couldn't view the wallpapers though, so I didn't digg or bury this story. - harvested, on 11/18/2007, -1/+18I see all the pictures but they're only thumbs - not linked to the full res version. Kinda sucks.
- jooaakim, on 11/18/2007, -8/+24cant see the pictures
- smek2, on 11/18/2007, -0/+10Shallow Depth of field? Macro Shots and Plants? Did it ever occurred you that a Wallpaper ought to be non-distracting and thus, should feature broad spaces and an easy color scheme? There's a reason why a macro shot of a leaf is a good wallpaper and not, say a picture of your favorite porn star (you know, your girlfriend, whose last name is jpeg)

- jisrael, on 11/18/2007, -0/+810 of 15 (66%) have a shallow depth of field...
Is it just me or do these all look like the standard apple wallpapers? - elementfire, on 11/18/2007, -2/+9This went through a whole voting process? Seriously? Wow. Where are the cool abstract/futuristic wallpapers?
The only one I see is the last "surreal" blue one. Not everyone loves plants and bugs. I understand that DeviantArt exists, and that's where I get my wallpapers from, but it's sad that such a famous genre of wallpapers is represented by only a single example. - chilekillr, on 11/18/2007, -1/+7Stop it.
- Assezdefromage, on 11/18/2007, -1/+7OMG once was enough! Jesus Christ. You said the same basic thing nine times...
- BuzzLightyear, on 11/18/2007, -0/+6Apparently we have to wait for Riccardo to get permission of the original authors and put them all into a tarball.
I guess we'll just have to keep checking his blog. Maybe someone could digg it when they're published?? - mahler, on 11/18/2007, -1/+6Are these somewhere available for download as one big file?
- Waterrat, on 11/18/2007, -0/+5 I like plants....Great photography.
- OfF3nSiV3, on 11/18/2007, -0/+4where can i download these? =S
- djauto23, on 11/18/2007, -0/+3You mean "!=" ?
- amfantasy, on 11/18/2007, -0/+3someone has a plant fetish, but all these images are beautiful so I'm not complaining
- perseon, on 11/18/2007, -0/+3Of course. Because heaven forbid you try to make your desktop look nice. I mean, I'm only going to be staring at it for several hours a day, so of course aesthetics are irrelevant.
Besides, it's not as if there is a separate group of KDE developers working on the actual desktop environment. Or a separate group of developers working on the actual OS. So indeed, you "fanboys" definitely need to be chastised for admiring some pretty wallpapers. - avatarpalin, on 11/18/2007, -0/+3Ummm it's "now' if you are going to noob talk me try to at least abbreviate a little but, otherwise what's the point?
- banmaster, on 11/18/2007, -3/+5Yeah, wordpress sucks, but you have to remember that diggs /= page views!
- coollettuce, on 11/18/2007, -1/+3Wow, your monitor resolution is so small.
- rupertmorris, on 11/18/2007, -2/+4They're all really good. I like them all, except maybe the last one, which seems Mac OS X-ish (not a bad thing; I'm on a Mac, but I like unique identities).
- keyo, on 11/19/2007, -0/+2Some more landscapes and less plants would be good.
- Purin, on 11/18/2007, -2/+4Too many plant-related pictures.
- Keyframe3D, on 11/18/2007, -0/+1digg down, but exactly what I was thinking. First Vista then everybody else, it's a fact - I guess microsoft developed a sense of style after all
- Mjuboy, on 11/18/2007, -1/+2It only caught the first 2 images.
- schestowitz, on 11/18/2007, -7/+8The third one is absolutely stunning. They all are! When will they enter the KDE4 build? I last installed it 4 days ago, but it's still 'lean' (artwork-wise) and the splash screen is the photo from Edinburgh.
- solid12345, on 11/18/2007, -0/+1You stare at your desktop? I stare at my program interfaces.
- smek2, on 11/18/2007, -0/+1Hu? You mean wallpapers depicting flowers are Mac-bond and KDE should find their own identity by... what? Making wallpapers featuring the moon only?
- jisrael, on 11/19/2007, -1/+2Yeah, I like non-distracting wallpapers too, but that doesn't REQUIRE macro shots, plants and a shallow depth of field...
Also, I didn't say they were bad wallpapers... just that they all look similar to each other and similar to Apple's. It seemed like the jury was leaning heavily towards a particular type of wallpaper. I didn't see any that were illustrated or photoshopped for instance.
oh, and get laid, it'll relieve some of the stress... - kerzhaw, on 11/19/2007, -0/+1Buried because you won't let me download them.. they are wallpapers after all
- KAMiKAZOW, on 11/18/2007, -1/+2Of course they all make it. They are the winners. The future default wallpaper has not been announced, yet.
- jimbren, on 11/19/2007, -0/+1'this is unacceptable?' It's a wallpaper contest. This is hardly something important enough to demand a recount over. If you don't like the default wallpapers, browse to your porn collection and give yourself something to be happy about.
- djGentoo, on 11/18/2007, -1/+1See above comments.
- frostcrow, on 11/18/2007, -2/+2I was going to say what nineteenfive said... except without all the numbers, and math. I was mostly just going to say " wow, pictures of leaves... "
- djGentoo, on 11/18/2007, -1/+1I hope they all make it to KDE4. "Fresh Morning" would make the perfect default.
- Dulcinea80, on 11/18/2007, -3/+3ZZZZZzzzzz... So boring...
pretty enough.
just really....
really.... boring - ruphy, on 11/18/2007, -5/+5Had problems with the site and bandwidth, should be working now. Thanks for the report =)
- OfF3nSiV3, on 11/18/2007, -2/+2mirror (site screenshot): http://img28.picoodle.com/img/img28/5/11/18/f_gffd ...
- joe90210, on 11/18/2007, -4/+3you know, just cause Vista started the whole leaves and grass wallpaper fad doesn't mean you have to follow and make everything some close up of grass blades!
- JJO1286, on 11/18/2007, -2/+1Where can I download the last blue one? It's awesome.
- dECODED, on 11/18/2007, -3/+2lame post without download links :(
- EnsErmac, on 11/18/2007, -2/+1I thought the same think when looking at the article...
- milesdutton, on 11/18/2007, -2/+0is it just me or are most of these wallpapers just slight variations of mac os x wallpapers?
- abbathdoom, on 11/18/2007, -3/+1Every distro will use its own artwork anyways so frankly who cares?
- Makaveli604, on 11/18/2007, -6/+4not loading for anyone else?
- solid12345, on 11/18/2007, -3/+1Buried for not seeing a tit in those droplet reflections.
- HydrogenOxide, on 11/18/2007, -2/+0I totally agree, but I hope you [and everyone else on digg] Realizes the last one is the same default as the PS3's
- ahpro, on 11/18/2007, -3/+1Where are the pictures then?
- Mabeshark, on 11/18/2007, -4/+1http://duggmirror.com/linux_unix/Unveiling_the_win ...
- ruphy, on 11/18/2007, -8/+4This is no more necessary, the site should be working again. Anyway, thanks. =)
