- Tsiolkovsky, on 10/10/2007, -0/+35After seeing this I must take my previous complaints about lack of contrast back. I guess put more faith into KDE artists community and programmers implementing the style in code. Awesome job people!
- omarciddo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+32The more I look at how KDE 4 is coming along, the more tempted I am to switch from Gnome. I can't wait for the final release.
- niallabrown, on 10/10/2007, -0/+24I think this looks really good. The new modifications look good. I also hope that that bottom bar is being considered for the final version, its beautiful.
- jokr004, on 10/10/2007, -1/+23love gnome, never liked kde, but that looks pretty badass
- whataboutdave, on 10/10/2007, -1/+183 months ago I would have agreed with you, but I've really been caught up in the KDE4 hype. I hope it delivers.
- whataboutdave, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15I think it is slightly better balanced than Vista. More low-key as well - it doesn't hammer you over the head.
- therealfrankdux, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Also, please don't forget that he posts a link to a directory that shows other images not in that blog entry:

The new kicker panel is shown with virtual desktops, application are shown with new drop-down menus, and there are several versions for tabs.
Just awesome, awesome work by Nuno. - InsaneMachine, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9i digg down anyone who says "digg me down" even if I agree with them
- Jambi, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10That progress bar needs redoing...other than that, quite nice.
- manitoba98xp, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Am I the only one who's reminded of Launchy? :P
- alanic, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7***** sexy man, I love that kicker.
- greatcaffeine, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I'm definitely gonna try it out. Looks really clean!
- Aitese, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6The author does not speak English as a first language douchebag. I'm sure his English is better than your Spanish/French/Italian etc...
- ultra_lime, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I really like the look. It doesn't look so boxy and awkward as the older KDE.
I just hope this bleeds on to the other windows and apps. - iatealitlebabie, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7"The following images are just my vision of KDE 4 and I have absolute no guaranty it will be like this"
Way to read it... Don't get your hopes up. - joe90210, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4wow, it's literally Windows and OSX rolled into one
- pooptaster, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5The buttons look a lot like what I already use. (Domino, for the curious)
- fantasticFlan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Thing is, it shouldn't be hard to make it look exactly like that.
- Alfdog, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I'm caught up in using KDE, and just liking it better
- tmahmood, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I use GNOME, but damn The Kicker looks awesome... But I hope the applications will also gets little cleaner too ... I hate looking at those literally 100 buttons on the tool bars of almost every application.
- Samurailink3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I've used gnome for the past 2 years, never really got onto the KDE wagon... but seeing this just might warrent a switch, especially when combined with nice compiz fusion animations.
- tmalloy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I agree with you, that looks badass. I may not switch for good, but I am definitely gonna try it out
- JrGhoull, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2and i guess its okay when windows copies linux eh?
- oobuntu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Check out http://behindkde.org/people/ "The People behind KDE" interviews to catch a bit of their vision for KDE.
Beware, there's a lot of interesting interviews, you may suddenly find you lost a few hours. - Ademan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I'm sure it can expand to meet size needs. I was relatively unimpressed by the Qt theme, but the kicker was the one thing that i thought was really good looking...
- kris33, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I think it looks great, even though it is obvious that they have been "inspired" by Vista. I've seen awesome KDE4 mockups for years though, some of them was much better than this one. There is no guarantee that KDE4 will look anything like this.
- andykram, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Wow it looks like they out-Vista'd Vista! Just in a beautiful, more concise and more stable way!
- corrosion, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2And it will not need 2GB to work "nice" as Vista. And consider it is not an OS, it is a desktop environment.
- djmdave, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1kde4 will adopt the text under buttons approach that gnome uses by default - therefore for encouraging/forcing all app developers to tone down the amount to toolbuttons in their apps.
all the core apps will make an effort to clean things up throughout the kde4 lifecycle, as the h.i.g is fleshed out too. - buggu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1This looks really nice, but most of these screenshots are really old. In any case, they really need to fix the huge glassy borders on everything, not only is it making the whole desktop look bulky, but it's also wasting a lot of valuable screen estate.
- pingveno, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Literally? Wouldn't that be more figuratively?
- rexbron, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I am sure that Nuno will release this theme. It is just a pity that we may not get it by default. I think that it would really make KDE pop for new users.
- spartan777, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3it doesn't look very cohesive at all. also, it is one thing to reuse a good idea (the transparency in vista), but it is another to do a STRAIGHT LIFT. What is the hype about? a taskbar that doesn't take up the whole width- thereby wasting the corners of the desktop?
- theartfuldodgr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1wow that looks sleek. the load bar needs some help but i can't wait to get my hands on the finished version.
- rexbron, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Then use a different theme.
- antdude, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Heh, I noticed his typos too.
- scronide, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I guess it's a lot easier for people to stick their fingers in their ears and their heads in the sand than actually consider the obvious, even if they don't want to believe it. Count the number of comments refuting the main point of the parent comment (hmm... none?) and compare that to the total negative diggs.
- jub0r, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Yeah. The visual style looks like the bastard lovechild of Vista and OSX. Sean Combs must be contributing to KDE development now days because there's a lot of sampling going on.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Are you saying this is low key?
http://nuno-icons.com/images/estilo/plasmadictonary.png
There is way too much of it. - ordminute, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I'll echo the sentiment this is heavily inspired by Vista with a few nods to OS/X (that progress bar needs some attention - looks out of place and difficult to read).
I'm not sure I understand the need for those transparent borders: desktop real-estate is a precious thing these days!
More so, I think those min/max/close decorations are really pretty horrible. If you want to go for something simple and clean, why not do something like this?
http://www.beryl-themes.org/content/preview.php?preview=1&id=26050&file1=26050-1.png&file2=&file3=&name=Blended
.. or if you want to take a risk:
http://www.beryl-themes.org/content/show.php/%27CylonMinimal%27+Window+Decoration+for+KDE?content=51993
.. or keep going in a Vista direction (ultimately disappointing)
http://www.beryl-themes.org/content/show.php/Alphacube+Metacity+Theme?content=29791 - Ademan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I still think the murrina Gtk+ theme looks far better than that qt theme (clearlooks too for that matter) but that is one sexy looking kicker bar...
- wheatley, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0the inbuilt kde window manager is integrating heaps of 3D effects for the 4.0 release, and while it'll take a while to catch up to compiz, it's looking good!
- ingis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0New KDE design is amassing! For me it's more impressive then Vista or OSX. Its very clean and stylish. Progress bar very nice I have only two questions about it. It's very important to have clear difference between active and nonactive windows, in that mokup we do not see example of that.
Another thing that transparent frame around plasmoids and menu bar should be a bit changed. Corners should be concentric, radius should be bigger in outside than inside.
I'm an architect and good design is very important to me. If you will go that way KDE will be most beautiful desktop environment ever! Good luck We are looking forward for new previews ;) - lastdalek, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1This _is_ the best thing since sliced bread!

- BRi7X, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1yeah, I was just gonna ask if anyone else noticed any "mac-y ness"... I'd prefer less mac-y ness... I don't mind the Windows-ness though... What I'd really prefer is better integration with Compiz Fusion and Emerald... Maybe a few KDE4 Emerald themes... or maybe even a KDE4 replacement for Emerald... something to ponder....
- mik3pass, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2I couldn't help but notice that he couldn't help but make a typo by the fourth word in the post...
- kedadi, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0your wishes, my command
- livevil, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1This ***** looks like OSX. I want KDE Linux to be different and innovative.
