Your avatar reminds me of a penis. - baalzebub, on 10/12/2007, -18/+151i think there are too many critics with phallus on the brain...
does an aircraft remind you of a penis?
does a cigar remind you of a penis?
does a flashlight remind you of a penis?
does an automobile remind you of a penis?
does a freight train remind you of a penis?
does a tree trunk remind you of a penis?
get over it and get some therapy, you need it badly... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+125"My penis reminds me of a penis."
Mine reminds me of an airplane. - popltree2, on 10/12/2007, -5/+898====D
What? It's a smiley face with a long nose...sickos. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+42From #ubuntu-artwork
Designer --> Mar 15 08:57:56 kwwii: I was kinda expecting that this time
Other guy --> Mar 15 08:58:14 elkbuntu: you need to stop looking at porn while you're designing stuff
The designer thought it was funny, and he was expecting the reactions he got. Get over yourselves.
Also, does anyone remember the ubuntu-calendar fiasco?
There are people that see sex as evil. They're idiots, but they exist. - schestowitz, on 10/12/2007, -10/+47As a matter of priciple, the developer should have left it as is.
- kettlechips, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24Much more professional. The last one was ugly, phallus or not.
- StickWST, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19Anyone have a link to the original?
Oh, never mind, I found it. Damn, that's painfully obvious. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+25of course the people were heard...its linux!
- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12There's always bickering over how the splash screen should look...but it would be much better if it weren't there in the first place. It doesn't really tell you anything, and it's there for 2 seconds. Why, then, do we need a splash screen in the first place? I think a more elegant solution should just be to get rid of it all together.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13PWill: did you think it would be included in the final release?
kwwii: nope, I made it only to raise attention - goodbeershow, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11The new one looks like big titties to me.
- b3mus3d, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I don't remember the ubuntu-calendar fiasco, does anyone have a link?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13I find it offensive. Please have the offensive material removed or I will start complaining on nerd sites
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10@reed311
If you explained in detail what happened, I'm sure someone from the forums or on IRC would be glad to help you. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I don't understand why I am getting dugg down...
I posted what the splash screen's designer said about it, and his opinion on the issue obviously trumps any off yours, considering he made it.
He made it as a joke. - sishgupta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Fortunately the art isn't just up to one guy. Last time art got held back because it wasn't good enough.
- SimonGray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I love the brown theme. Many people do too. How exactly doesn't that cut it? Because you have a different opinion?
- CalabiYau, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You haven't seen it before because the splash screen they have on the blog isn't even the one being used!
This is the new splash:

Buried as inaccurate. - popltree2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I haven't clicked on the link yet, but if I find that you submitted that story, I will do very bad things to you.
EDIT: ...you fail at life and are anything BUT a RespectedMember. Can someone please ban this @$$hole's IP? - Ayavaron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@reed,
It's not that we hate people who hate Ubuntu. It's that we hate people who bicker about it. Digg is democratic and if the majority enjoys their iPhone, top 10, and Ubuntu stories, they get to digg them and when you complain, it doesn't change anything. Just annoys peopel. - BryanJK, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4direct link to image they are talking about:

pretty funny story *dugg - Ademan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yeah well this one looks like a turd. Brown brown and more brown, at least the other one had some red and orange in it... I'll take my penis splash back please... (penis splash sounds a little more suggestive than it was meant to...)
Of course the other alternative would be giving the new one more color... - vagarach, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The brown is to add that human element that is so important to ubuntu. Seeing as every single other distribution is blue or green or just grey, it also works very well to set it apart from the rest of the million distros.
If you want blue so much, change it yourself, or move to kubuntu. - TheAcclaimed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Phallic or not, that splash is a lot better looking anyways.
- Mejogid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wait... you think graphics designers write kernel patches?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Put aside those kernel patches our logo looks like a dick.
- Fallout75, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Who cares? You can change your splash screen to anything you want.

This one is better than the default one in Ubuntu 6.10 yes, but that's the least of my worries. - mjpatey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Black splash is still in... it's the splash that happens after that which changed.
- D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Ok, it's not /that/ phallic.....
- ViceVirtue, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The (old) new Ubuntu splash *was* phallic, you must admit.
It doesn't come down to childishness, or even "penis on the brain." - evilpig, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I think the comments we better than the story. Hahah.
- robshoy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Glad to know that the folks at Ubuntu know when to pull out in time.
- madgamer7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2(edited)
@bryanjk: I don't remember seeing that splash screen.. I thought we were talking about the one from Dapper Drake with the rounded edges
Oh well - specialK16, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Um, it looks like the 5.10 splash to me...
- Ayavaron, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I always look for ways to eliminate splashScreens. They just get in the way during the time something is loading.
- Farticus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Great, now it looks totally vulval.
No really, that is great.
;-) - strabes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think you're thinking of the bootsplash, the image that comes up immediately after grub.
This is the splash screen, the image that comes up while the desktop is loading. - sanguinemoon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ayavaron,
Ok, but people really need go less defensive about this distro. Perfectly valid criticisms of Ubuntu do wind up getting buried. Hell, the other day I was flamed that told I shouldn't admin anybody's machine but my own. My crime? Critiquing Ubuntu's practice of having the user name and admin password being the same by default (a very bad thing, even though I now know that this can be fixed)
As far as this the unwarranted digg downs go, maybe its a problem with the digg system itself. It's much easier to hit the red thumbs down icon than come up with an intelligent reply. If a poster says "Ubuntu is a pretty decent distro, but here's some issues that I found that seem to be specific to this distro......" He might wind up with -20 diggs, but the poster that says "Ubuntu has opened Linux to the masses" but fails to accurately address any of the original poster's concerns will get +30 diggs or so, if not more. This "democracy" of digging and burying, ironically, starts to take the place of actual discourse and exchange of ideas. - franco313, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5 this new splash screen looks like a vagina
- BryanJK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1alright, sorry about that
- mikehartor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Awesome. I like it so much, M$ sucks ;)
- h0dg3s, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Go post your blogspam somewhere else, slapnuts
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i think the ubuntu splash screen is nice?
- goonmaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It DOES look like a penis!
http://bp0.blogger.com/__BlOG8GFqK4/RfghD2f7Z9I/AAAAAAAAAGA/PHh2BXPmT4o/s1600-h/ubuntu-slick.png - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I think that the old one was MUCH better than this one. I didn't see the phallic look at first, and later that the people complain I noted it but was a slightly phallic-look.
Judge yourself:
http://gallery.popey.com/albums/misc/feistysplash2.png #The phallic-look one.
http://gallery.popey.com/albums/misc/ubuntu_slick.png #The phallic-look-free one.
The last one have a more mature look for sure. - ManInTheBunker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"or I will start complaining on nerd sites"
... you just did. - Spo8, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1So, does anyone know if Ubuntu will ever undergo a default theme change? I love it as a distro, but come on. This dark brownish orange just doesn't cut it. They should check out the Mint distro's default theme, or even just switch it to Clearlooks (or Clearbooks? Can't remember), as blue is always nice a nice theme color. Anyway, my two cents.
- Leomarth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1In my nine years of law enforcement experience, I would fairly much have to say you're right.
