- cope, on 10/12/2007, -5/+28Firstly, its not ubuntu that handles the ATI drivers, its the linux kernal... secondly, they don't have out of the box ATI support, since ATI haven't released an API for their cards... ATI have patents on some of their software functionality, so developers supporting ATI cards are pretty much doing it from scratch..
And, open office needs to work on that, not ubuntu... ubuntu as an operating system is one of the easiest linux based operating systems out there at the moment.. spend some time and learn how to use another operating system before commenting! - zerblat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Have you filed bugs? If you haven't, please do: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs

- TheWriteGuy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Can anyone sum up what are some of the major additions (and fixes) we can look forward to? (NTFS perhaps?)

have you no sense of humor at ALL? - zerblat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Here's a list of things being worked on for edgy: https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/edgy/+specs
Of course, that doesn't mean that all of it will be ready for edgy... - atezun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9as far as i know, it's buisness as usual for the October release, Dapper is meant to be polished, Edgy is meant to be a razor sharp, bleeding edge, so deadly you're afraid to shave with kind of release. I'm pretty sure Ubuntu wants to return to it's regular release schedule as they originally promised to the communtiy.
- nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You know people are always bitching that the mac or linux "fanboys" always mention things about apple or linux in MS stories, but then every apple or ubuntu story has people going "oh great another story about X". If you're not interested in the story don't read it, simple.
- illuvatar, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7here's a guide for NTFS in Dapper:

;) - Emerica, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Ralink 2500 Wifi cards should work now, they would freeze the system in 6.06
- thund3rstruck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@imrumpf
eh, theres a lot more to software development than a pretty, shiny graphical interface. Perhaps you should read the changelog or install the release to experience the differences. - rouben, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Believe it or not, this is possibly useful feedback for the developers. One of the best things about open source and Ubuntu in particular, is that *anyone* is welcome to improve it.
If you're fluent in Japanese, and you're finding problems with the translation, please, feel free to open up a launchpad.net (Ubuntu's collaboration web portal) and get cracking with the translation effort! It's the efforts of people like you that make open source possible. - junioraspirin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2no it shouldn't. they are releasing it to schedule, so it will be a quick release for October.
- iggywig, on 10/12/2007, -7/+8Xubuntu is Ubuntu with XFCE rather than gnome or kde...
- naleeh, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1So you want them to have a config for every ATI card? Why stop there.... why not include nVidia ones too. While you're at it might as well include configs for every other piece of hardware that gives users hassle. ;)
The fact is if you start including configs where do you stop? Help is available online and the trade off between having a certain user spend 30 mins looking stuff up or having a team of developers coding config files when they could be doing something more useful is just too great. That said.... i have all nVidia cards so i would say that wouldn't I ;) - mezoko, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5Is it really needed to say "Ubuntu / Kubuntu / Xubuntu / Eubuntu"? Can't you just say something like "*Edgy EFT Knot-1 6.10 Released for all variations of ubuntu"
- naleeh, on 10/12/2007, -9/+7Its amazing, even saying 'Yes, ubuntu has its uses' will get you attacked by the anti-ubuntu crowd. Its funny cause the majority of the them have no valid reasons and only hold that opinion cause 'its cool to be different'
'tards - Hiker, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0As far as NTFS goes, don't forget ntfs_3g, which now has deb packages available for easy installation. I've tested and ntfs write support is very usable (captiventfs, the only other one I've looked at, was slow to write. Paragon's solution might be fast tho. dunno)
- inkubux, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Really?
I was on the point of up^grading my Mythtv Box to Dapper instead of Breezy, I guess i'll wait a little bit as the box is perfectly stable.
Thanks for the comment you saved me quite a bit of frustration as wireless internet is the last thing I usually configure on my computers. - inkubux, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1double post... nevermind
- flakmonk3h, on 10/12/2007, -11/+8havent you people learned yet?
insulting ubuntu is a one way trip to buriedville =) - imrumpf, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1i see no difference....
- cubeeggs, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4No, Xubuntu is for people can figure out how to make the applications menu reappear.
- AmidTheSnow, on 10/12/2007, -11/+26.10? Shouldn't it be 6.12 since 6.06 was moved up two months.
- streamx, on 10/12/2007, -16/+3Hooray for Linux zealots and Mac bigots!
Please post more stories about switching to Ubuntu/Mac and bashing Windows! - mukiex, on 10/12/2007, -17/+2Why can't a Linux distro just include a proper config for the most recent Ati Driver in the installer? Is Ati's Linux driver interface that bad? Is it a GPL thing? (e.g. Kororaa) I really wish I could just hit an option for "non-GPL drivers" at install and have a working config when I was done.

- Neorio, on 10/12/2007, -36/+8Ubuntu isn't that great. It's internationalisation needs work, and the ati-driver packages don't seem to function normally. Internationalisation sucks, the IME setup is non-intuitive. Open Office in Japanese has some really yucky overlapping option tabs, but I think other non-latin alphabets and languages suffer the same fate.
