- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+32In before people start to complain about bugs. Remember, it's an ALPHA release.
- koick, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17Don't complain here about them, but DO report them, that's the whole point of releasing an alpha to the public:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bugs - SimonGray, on 10/11/2007, -2/+16The new appearance dialog looks great! It does go a little against the UNIX one-app-per-task philosophy, but one could consider "adjusting appearance" a task in itself.
Right now I'm waiting anxiously for a fix to NetworkManager which will allow me to auto-login without having to write a password to get online every time. The pam-keyring hack only works if you log on normally. - OHiggins, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Dugg down for not even trying to be creative with your troll.
- 13thMonkey, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Kubuntu is blue to make you XP users feel at home.

- macewan, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8Phoebe Kate just made the switch to Ubuntu Linux - 50+ female writer, mother of 3 grown adults. When asked what the difference was between Linux and Windows: "Linux seems faster"
:-) - DavidGX, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6So nice of you to come here and tell us that, now that we know linux sucks we can stop wasting our time with it, all thanks to you! You're such a hero.
- bgmowen, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8In before windows elitists...
- jdong, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Relax... it's just a name the developers use to go by test releases. You're welcome to call it 7.10 Alpha 3 and nobody is going to bitch about it.

^link to torrent, cause downloads from the ubuntu server are slow at the moment. - Theli, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Personally I just install the gstreamer packs, and I can play pretty much anything. Which leaves me to wonder... what version of Ubuntu have you been running?
My guess would be: none. - OHiggins, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5This just keep looking better and better. I'm looking forward to the release candidate in October to make the switch from Fiesty.
- jdong, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5No, unfortunately not (and it's not likely they will include it until madwifi.org makes a stable release of the new 0.9.30 HAL)
- bigtomrodney, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3It's not released for end users as such. It's a test build that you are welcome to test. Alpha means test release!
If it had no bugs it would be the final release. - deadlikeoscar, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Thank you, on my way to buy Vista then...ass.
- Newcastle, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6I've installed Dapper and Edgy on SATA RAID before. If its like most onboard SATA RAID controllers the trick is to not enable it in the BIOS and just let Linux take care of it.
- DrawingTheSun, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2If you get bugs report them, that's the point
- specialK16, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2How gay the Ubuntu Team **is**???
- MavRevMatt, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2This looks awesome, can't wait to try it.
- motang, on 10/11/2007, -4/+5Sweet, will be testing this one out.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1install black or white theme and problem solved.
- bigtomrodney, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Ah come one, you can't tell me you switched to Ubuntu without expecting some level of security? It's simple. Login to your desktop and the network will connect or Auto-login without a password and give the network password. Easy. Quick. That way your encryption key is safe, and it won't just take someone a quick login behind your back to get it (friend/ neighbour/ little brother/ whatever).
If you want something less secure and aimed towards the lazier type of person I'm sure you will get a suggestion or two. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Cavemen get laid, unix admin dont.
*Cries in the conner cause the message was typed from unbutu 7.04 ; ; - AriaGloris, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4Does it have 7th generation Atheros support yet?
- quetzatcoatl, on 10/11/2007, -4/+5I wonder what will happen after Zesty Zebra, Aadventurous Aardvark?
- mcmlxxii, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Lazy? What if you want to remotely reboot? Your computer waves bye bye then doesn't reconnect to the network - total nuisance.
- specialK16, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Seriously, Amarok, with MySql to store the database is a ***** dream player, except that the ***** SOUND QUALITY SUCKS!!
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1i just got my first properly working installed version on my Desktop and got to say ubuntu 7.04 was impressive. all of my hardware work without a flaw. i would have never tried it after the very very bad impression 6.04 had left on me. cant wait till the final stable is released. my only hope is that they fixed the problem with Thinpad R40e which is caused by the kernel causing the laptop to lag as hell.
- cdmarcus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Unfortunately, I don't think they will fix it... they could have stored the wifi keys in plain text like the old way of doing things, but they chose to use this system. For some reason I don't think it's going to change.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You are not in /b/ anymore.
- stoitofardo, on 10/11/2007, -5/+6In before people start to complain about bugs. Remember, it's an ASTRALOPITECUS release.
- macewan, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2give them a buzz at http://idea.opensuse.org/content/
- macewan, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Ubuntu Sassy Santiago
- kahrn, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Uhh.. It's only awful if you suck at customization. Gnome is highly customizable, just the same as KDE, Xfce and Fluxbox.
Perhaps you should check out http://lynucs.org - It demonstrates what a free(dom) desktop is capable of. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Go ***** yourself. even with Xubuntu you cant install the OS on that specs under 30 minutes. it takes less time then Windows but dont ***** inflat the numbers because they are no true.
- stmiller, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1OT: But I just found out that US speakers all say 'Zeeeee-bruh' where are UK speakers pronounce it 'Zeb-ruh' (long e like 'deb'). Now the US way sounds plain wrong to me every time I hear it...
- JonForTheWin, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1It's not brown at all. 7.10 is all orange, and it looks nice.
- macewan, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Part of what make Linux great is the ability to provide feedback. Did each of you Microwarriors bother to help the computing world at large by giving feedback as to what went wrong?
Either you're retarded and long lost missing brothers or something is seriously wrong with the install disc you tried. I watched a 30 minute install last night on a 600 mhz box with 512 ram. The grandmother that did the install then let her friend use the system and she didn't seem to have any problems either.
Life is full of bumps so if this process was too terribly difficult then please don't start driving when you hit 16. Keep the roads safe for us grandparents and the kiddies.
mmmk? - dptxp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Does it have support for ENE card readers (laptops)
- Moduliz0r, on 10/11/2007, -4/+3I'm a caveman!
- mcmlxxii, on 10/11/2007, -5/+4And you called yourself Saint James 1 ?
- kevmaster, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1I installed it today and blogged everything A to Z
http://kevin.vanzonneveld.net/techblog/article/upgrade_to_ubuntu_gutsy_tribe_3_alpha/ - BbIT, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0one of those geico cavemen? :)
- 13thMonkey, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2sudo apt-get install amaorak
- Megatog615, on 10/11/2007, -4/+3Does Rhythmbox support a graphic equalizer yet?
I mean... come on already. It's got everything else. - mkrygeri, on 10/11/2007, -5/+3I never seem to get past the live CD either.
As soon as I need to install some compiler and GLIBC in order to play an MP3, I vomit and run crying like a little bitch back to MS - JonForTheWin, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1>Implies that "Non-Unix Admins" are "cavemen"
They are. - BbIT, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2ubuntu 8.10 Homosexual Hacker
