- Danltn, on 10/12/2007, -7/+27Saddest thing I've ever heard! DIGG'ed because I love Ubuntu. Shows that the consumer really is important.
- Tyr7BE, on 10/12/2007, -6/+25Yeah it kind of is. Have you ever seen the pictures of the Gnome release parties back when they had Gnome release parties? A few scattered pics of half a dozen pasty white kids drinking beer. I remember seeing one pic where someone was passed out and someone else wrote "I love KDE" on them in marker. The entire scene is something straight out of the Far Side (for anyone who's not a Gary Larson fan, I recommend looking some up).
- JackHererUK, on 10/12/2007, -7/+26Jesus tapdancing christ, parties to celebrate the release of a new version of a Linux distro, I'm a full on geek but even i wouldn't do that. I thought LAN parties were bad enough. What next, the microsft patch tuesday memorial ball?
- wordsthatendini, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21Dugg for the fact that when asked why you are throwing a party... the guy with the Babylon 5 t-shirt will try to explain to the hot blonde what Ubuntu is.
- Usodarake, on 10/12/2007, -9/+27This is now called NerdFest 2007
yea digg me down nerds - Heilige, on 10/12/2007, -7/+22This is not "incremental"; It is instead a MAJOR release going from v6.10 to v7.04 with LOTS of improvements and new features!
LONG LIVE UBUNTU! - rokinroj, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15I havent seen a banner ad since 2001
- jcapogna, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13What kind of people do you think we are? BSD users?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14I thought it said Ubuntu Feisty Panties all around the World.
Stewie: This calls for a sexxxxy party! - IamTheProfessor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10False: There will be no hot blonde, that is a figment of his imagination.
- evilregis, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12sudo apt-get remove social-awkwardness?
- DiggFight, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Sounds like a sausage fest for nerds and a few fat chicks. Can't wait for the pictures.
- geoken, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9All hope of attracting girls was lost upon the anouncing of a Linux party.
- geoken, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12Awesome, a group of Linux users celebrating a minor bi-yearly release of one of the thousand+ distros. I can't even imagine how much fun it will be, I think I'm going to cancel my trip to Ibiza.
- lazydrumhead, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7pants party.
- lordsandwich, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9I dunno, I think a decent-sized party held in Redmond might stir up a bit of fun. ;)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+11Sorry to spam, but I am proud of myself for organizing this one: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/OhioTeam/FeistyParty
- ktulu1115, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5sudo make me a sandwich...
http://elliottback.com/wp/archives/2006/09/03/sudo-make-me-a-sandwich/ - MindTrigger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Decause digg is being overrun by people who think they are actually cool, despite the fact that they hang around and comment on digg. The hilarity never ends here. It feels a little more like MySpace around here every day.
- MindTrigger, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7lol, you guys are so ***** cool it's dripping off of you... wait, no you aren't you are hanging around on Digg. ***** tools.
- immrlizard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Gmorgan is right. I have tried it on several laptops and haven't had to do any hacking.
- jrtcs, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9Developers! Developers! Developers! Developers!
- MikeDawg, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8I have a feeling each one of these "parties" is going to be extremely lame. Pull out the old media cart, and plug in some Joss Whedon, and be in fanboy heaven. Or better yet, have a collective of iPods, watch an intro by Kevin Rose, then watch some Joss Whedon Buffy, Firefly, or Serenity, and bathe yourself in the fanboy bliss.
- hockey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yeah ain't it cool :)
- GMorgan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It detected my card and installed the binary firmware, the regulatory daemon and loaded the kernel module on it's own so yeah if a driver exists there is a fair chance Ubuntu will now auto load it.
- fkr3, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8lol, they're all at coffee shops. Why isn't their a permission form for parents to sign?
- bmartin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@tinker123: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/7.04Tour
1. Easier connection for wireless networks
2. Easier installation of proprietary drivers
3. New games are included
4. Support for additional hardware (Intel Macs)
5. Third party extras are now much easier to install
6. Zeroconf (make it easier to establish connections to network shares and printers) - Vtorch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3LOL....Funny.
- JoeyJoeJoe1970, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4If this is true: http://useopensource.blogspot.com/2007/02/wpa-wireless-just-works-in-ubuntu-704.html
.... I will decloak into nerddom and tip a few beers down at Cambridge Brewing.
Please be true. Please..... - mason.parker, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4With 3500 diggs: "Mason's computers boots into Ubuntu this morning, sites browsed."
- mason.parker, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4In other words, easy pickings for the not-so-proud:P
- ToastPop, on 04/17/2009, -7/+9This is the nerdiest thing I've ever heard of.
- pinkisntwell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@Heilige:
Ubuntu's version numbers are essentially dates on which the version in question gets released. So 7.04 means 4th month of the year 2007. 6.10 meant 10th month of year 2006.
If you don't know what you're talking about, keep your mouth shut. - GMorgan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Meh, I'm going out today anyway. I know, I'll toast the Ubuntu release in front of my friends to ensure that I have none in time for 7.10 so I'll be able to go to a proper release party next time.
- hockey, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5@MikeDawg
And the problem with that is?
Seriously what geek wouldn't love that?
Before anyone else flames please remember that you are doing so from digg. . . - rockets, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4what else could you ask for ????
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2WTF No Party in California?
- williamdyer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's why I've been using the beta. It's schweeet.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@bmartin
Thanks for taking the time to make the list. As an Ubuntu fan, who does not use wireless, who isn't changing hardware, who has drivers, codecs etc installed and who is an Ubunut desktop end user I did not see anything in that list to get excited about........at least not enough to have a party over.
Seriously, I appreciate you taking the time to make the list. - sir_nacnud, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6If you thought lan parties were bad, then you aren't a geek.
- xymor, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4@geoken
Ubuntu isn't just one more, It's the biggest linux community and probably the most successful one to target home users.
Next saturday Ubuntu Install Fest I'm gonna be installing feisty in dozens of laptops, desktop and ps3, drinking homebrew open source beer and eating barbecue.
That's a geek party. - Peepsalot, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Ok maybe I will throw my own "release" party.
- BigDanee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dude their a little out dated -- Old grannies by now in tech time. :-P
- UNL1M1T3D, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3It's dugg, digg'ed just sounds stupid.
- HunterTV, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4If you worked really hard on it to get it out the door, sure go ahead and celebrate...but if you just use it, mmmm, no.
- brickbat, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Dudes, where is the release orgy?
