- schestowitz, on 11/03/2007, -1/+128Will Compiz get disabled if the user fails to authenticate? :-p
- missingnoh4x, on 10/31/2007, -4/+93But what if I'm running a pirated copy? :P
- andywebb95, on 11/01/2007, -4/+61Haha they put the product key in the image.
Now I can get a free copy of Ubuntu.
Oh wait. - holydope, on 10/31/2007, -1/+54Nope, and you don't have to worry about updates being installed without your consent. :-)
- zyklon, on 10/31/2007, -0/+51The minute I see "Downloading update: UGA" I'll start firebombing.
- mayonaise15, on 11/10/2007, -0/+41I wonder how many downloads you could get from a torrent titled "Ubuntu 7.10 ULTIMATE + Keygen"
- codemonkeysteve, on 10/29/2007, -0/+36Would have been better If they'd made the "product ID" the MD5 of the ISO image. Then it would be a literal certificate of authenticity -- if the checksums don't match, it's not authentic Ubuntu.
- sqrt7744, on 10/31/2007, -0/+28Joy.
- holydope, on 10/29/2007, -0/+27The product ID is the hex code for GNU/Linux
- chugger1992, on 10/31/2007, -1/+26I fail to see how a computer OS can do so.
- mayonaise15, on 11/03/2007, -4/+28um...welcome to digg.
- missingnoh4x, on 10/29/2007, -0/+21On a more serious note, they should've used a cgi script to make it generate a unique text string for each image, instead of everybody having the same fake product ID.
And keep the * and *not actually required off of the image. It kills the joke if you want to print it and stick it on your machine. - ahughes, on 10/28/2007, -0/+21Heh, this is funny. Convert the HEX to ASCII and you get: GNU/LINUX?
- linuxeventually, on 11/01/2007, -4/+21As opposed to the Microsoft Certificate of Authenticity, har har har. I don't want any stickers, certificates, barcodes, or serial numbers on my computer case, thank you very much.
- seanc6610, on 11/03/2007, -17/+30does this really deserve the front page?
- zyklon, on 10/28/2007, -0/+12Shhh, let the troll alone.
- MrPig, on 10/29/2007, -1/+13You mean like this?
http://www.valdegames.com/pig/ubuntu/?key=FCKGW%20 ...
or
http://www.valdegames.com/pig/ubuntu/?key=%20%20%2 ... - sparrowkc, on 10/29/2007, -0/+11Not aluminum, but still awesome (and for the cost of mailing a stamped envelope):
http://system76.com/article_info.php?articles_id=9 - Daniel15, on 10/29/2007, -0/+11Does this work in conjunction with Linux Genuine Advantage (http://www.digg.com/linux_unix/Linux_Genuine_Advan ... )?
:P - DarkN00b, on 10/29/2007, -1/+12It does if enough people Digg it.
- Goldspink, on 10/28/2007, -0/+8In Soviet Russia, certificate authenticates YOU.
- missingnoh4x, on 10/29/2007, -0/+8Puke orange? If your vomit typically is orange, I'd recommend seeing a doctor.
- holydope, on 10/29/2007, -0/+7you couldn't post that somewhere else and link to it?
- tacojohn48, on 10/29/2007, -0/+7Then you haven't heard of Vista.
- MrPig, on 10/29/2007, -1/+8http://www.valdegames.com/pig/ubuntu/?key=FCKGW%20 ...
Just set key= to what ever you want
You may want to put spaces (%20) in front of the key in order to center it. - MicrosoftBob, on 10/29/2007, -1/+8marked as flaccid
- Rolamoto, on 10/29/2007, -0/+6Cue the "09-F9..." Version in 3...2...
- jdhore1, on 10/28/2007, -1/+7I'd like one of those metal "Designed for Windows XP" stickers, but instead of saying Windows XP, have it say Ubuntu or Debian and have either the distro's logo or an image of Tux on it.
- Luigi239, on 10/28/2007, -0/+6Mirror, because Bayimg decided to be dumb.
http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/4108/ubuntucoae ... - fkr3, on 10/28/2007, -0/+6I'd like no stickers, or at least removable stickers. As it is I've got 4 on my notepad - an AMD sticker, an nVidia sticker, a lightScribe sticker *and* a Vista sticker.
- thedingman, on 10/28/2007, -1/+7Would be much funnier if the key was either "09-f9-11-02-9d-74 e3-5b-d8-41-5" or FCKGW RHQQ2 YXRKT 8TG6W 2B7Q8
- neko, on 10/31/2007, -1/+7That was a wasteful comment. Think of all those letters you could have typed in a post that interested you instead.
- jstone, on 10/28/2007, -1/+6Actually might be a good idea for someone building/selling computers with Ubuntu on them. The average person would probably think they got a 'pirated version' without a such a sticker.
- jstone, on 10/28/2007, -0/+5I just realized I need to clarify a little. I have plans to open a small-time computer shop that would repair, but also build and sell, PCs. One of the ideas I had was a 'Internet Appliance' type computer that would run Ubuntu, because it would do everything the average user needs (Email, Internet, etc,) costs less than Windows, and is relatively fuss-free with the right hardware. This sticker would be a good idea for something like that, as the average 'joe-user' or 'grandma' user would probably hear something about pirated software on TV, see that there's no 'COA' on their box, and freak out.
- ahughes, on 10/28/2007, -0/+5How about Mac Blue, or Windows Black?
/me wonders if cmost knows the concept of theming - AnimZero, on 10/27/2007, -0/+5Okay.
- inactive, on 10/29/2007, -1/+6no, that would not be as nerdy.
- sparrowkc, on 10/28/2007, -0/+5Why don't you go make some hot pink graphics then, cmost? I have friended you so I can digg your submission when it comes.
- Genius16, on 11/03/2007, -0/+4http://www.linuxgenuineadvantage.org/
- Dan2552, on 10/29/2007, -0/+3But now it's not SVG :(
- holydope, on 10/28/2007, -0/+3How did I know that was the Leprechaun video... I live in Mobile... :-(
Not everyone here is like that. - MicrosoftBob, on 10/28/2007, -0/+3Good luck. It's a tough business sometimes but I always support the independent shops. Prices are competitive and after-sale service is light-years ahead of your chain gangs.
- agentlame, on 11/01/2007, -0/+3Social news site, meet seanc6610. seanc6610, this is social news site. We just call him digg, for short.
- Ebeniz, on 10/28/2007, -0/+3very nice!!! lol
- jcronkhite, on 10/28/2007, -0/+3cost, I understand where you're coming from, really. But you switched to Mint because you were tired of changing themes, etc.? Surely there was more to it than that. I mean, regardless of the distribution, almost everybody changes and customizes their desktop accordingly. It would seem hardly problematic to be inconvenienced to change a theme. Since you create them (and we appreciate your efforts sincerely) and publish to gnome-looks then you too understand the want to change a theme. It's a purely personal decision of course.
Concerning the sticker, well, I'm not interested in it, but is it really wrong? Think of it as your favorite sports team. People make signs to take to the game or bumper stickers, etc. I'm pleased if it gets the word out about Linux in general. To a non-geek, it would likely be a conversation piece, don't you think? Perhaps it might result in a convert from that conversation. I just don't think it's bad to rally around your favorite distro, that's all. And that's all this is to me. - ruiacp, on 11/01/2007, -5/+7LOL
- immrlizard, on 10/31/2007, -0/+2No, but it will format the drive and install windows. You don't want that now do you?
- MadEnvoy, on 10/28/2007, -0/+2http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nda_OSWeyn8
- immrlizard, on 10/31/2007, -0/+2Why is it wasteful?
