By the way, AMD64 is also for Intel's 64-bit processors. - Sammi84, on 04/23/2009, -0/+18Several large PC manufacturers will be releasing ARM based netbooks later this year. Neither XP or Vista will be technically capable of running on ARM CPUs. Maybe Win7 will, but this is still pure speculation, and will require a lot of work from MS. So as it stands right now it is a great strategic advantage for Ubuntu to be able to run on ARM.
- CalcProgrammer1, on 04/23/2009, -2/+19The Linux kernel has been on ARM forever, but getting it on to <insert favorite ARM-powered mobile device here> isn't going to be so easy. Most mobile devices aren't designed to run any OS and have custom boot procedures. Some devices can be booted into Linux through their current OS but Linux on mobile devices (at least those not designed to run Linux) is still pretty worthless.
I would love to run a stripped-down Ubuntu on my Axim, but I can't even get a kernel to boot on it. The only way to boot it is through a custom bootloader in Windows Mobile, but even then it hangs at mounting my SD card and has a kernel panic. - LordBacon, on 04/23/2009, -1/+18Damn ... i just started compiling gentoo from scratch :(
- goldfenix, on 04/23/2009, -0/+17REALLY old 4chan meme. It's the Japanese *chan way of doing a thing for "WIN!"

- nutmac, on 04/23/2009, -1/+17You are comparing Fedora 10 to Ubuntu 7.04? Can I compare Ubuntu 9.04 to Fedora 8 (which was horribly unreliable for me)?

- farTart, on 04/23/2009, -0/+14Don't worry, you can still keep the sane KDE 3.5 (thankfully!)
* It is relatively simple to upgrade from Kubuntu 8.04 to Kubuntu 9.04 with KDE3.5, but the process has not been automated.
You will therefore have to follow these steps to ensure a successful update without losing your KDE settings:
o 1. Copy your /home/<username>/.kde folder to /home/<username>/.kde3 You will have to do this for all users of the computer that you are upgrading. Make sure that the permissions and ownership of these files are not disturbed in any way.
o 2. Perform the upgrade as you normally would.
o 3. After you reboot, you will have a KDE4 desktop. Don't worry, this is temporary. Now install the kubuntu-desktop-kde3 package with your favorite package manager and reboot.
o 4. You should now be able to select KDE3 as your window manager at the login screen. You can also remove the KDE4 packages with your favorite package manager if you do not want to have KDE4 installed.
* Once you have upgraded to either Intrepid with KDE3.5 or Jaunty with KDE3.5, you will be able to perform future upgrades without having to follow the above steps. - kslizz, on 04/23/2009, -0/+14Anddddddddddddd you're an idiot.
- MrTea, on 04/23/2009, -0/+14If anyone else here happens to be using an M-Audio Revolution 5.1 sound card, you may be happy to know that the ALSA shipped in this release's kernel finally supports the headphone port.

- schrutefan, on 04/23/2009, -0/+13I'll wait for Slutty Squirrel.
- DreadPirate, on 04/23/2009, -0/+13You're still pulling up a comparison about a two-year old release. Even if you had issues, they were from two years ago and the software has been improved greatly since then, making your point utterly invalid.
