- Philluminati, on 02/20/2008, -1/+181Ok, hands up...who guessed correctly?
no? me neither. - corney91, on 02/20/2008, -1/+171I was rooting for Irate Iguana.
- Philluminati, on 02/20/2008, -3/+138sometimes, for a laugh... we reboot our computers!
- inactive, on 02/20/2008, -4/+133Doesn't really roll of the tongue, that one...
- barktwiggs, on 02/20/2008, -4/+129I still think 8.04 should have been Hungry Hippo.
- FQuist, on 02/20/2008, -3/+117The list of proposed names is here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DevelopmentCodeNames
But, what a lame name. Why didn't they recognize the marketing value of "Inquisitive Ichabodcraniosaurus"?! - rakstar, on 02/20/2008, -1/+99personally i don't care what they call it, as long as it's easy to Google it when searching for answers.
- ileftfark, on 02/20/2008, -4/+90This could be the first time an official Ubuntu distro is referred to by the noun in it's two-part name.
Wow, I'm a ***** nerd. - BlueSkyfish, on 02/20/2008, -2/+79They should name the next one Jiggly Jackass.
- whiteknives, on 02/20/2008, -3/+75Stupid comment system locked me into being the third idiot to say I was bitter about them not naming 8.04 Hungry Hippo. Why, oh WHY can't I delete my comments, Kevin! WHY!?
- chris9902, on 02/20/2008, -4/+63Wow! the fun never stops in the world of Linux development does it.
- bobbybobington, on 02/20/2008, -2/+58Intrepid Ibex, the X at the end is for Xtreme.
- hipnerd, on 02/21/2008, -2/+48Ladies and gentlemen, this is how you do it.
Don't wimp out by having a "logical argument" or sticking to the "point." If you are going to be a troll, be a magnificent troll -- a troll who makes small children sit up and say, "I want to be a giant douchebag when I grow up...just like hagnar." - chris9902, on 02/20/2008, -1/+44oh you crazy kids. You run along now.
- SDL486, on 02/20/2008, -0/+36An Ibex is a type of wild mountain goat with large recurved horns that are transversely ridged in front. Ibex are found in Eurasia, North Africa, and East Africa. The name ibex comes from Latin, borrowed from Iberian or Aquitanian, akin to Old Spanish bezerro "bull", modern Spanish becerro "yearling".
- arjie, on 02/20/2008, -2/+37I was plumping for Irritated Ifrit myself, or Indiscreet Incubus. Ibex is cool though.
- Protoss, on 02/20/2008, -0/+33More likely they will call it Intrepid. I know I call Gutsy Gibbon by Gutsy and Feisty Fawn by just Feisty.
- JohnnyKdiggs, on 02/21/2008, -0/+30You gotta love the speed of Free Software development. It seems like I just upgraded to 7.10. 8.04 is less than two months away and 8.10 will be available 6 months later.
At this pace, there will be 10 new versions of Ubuntu for every one new version of Windows. - bobbocanfly, on 02/20/2008, -2/+28im still getting over the fact that sabdfl didnt name 8.04 Hungry Hippo
- l0k0, on 02/20/2008, -5/+29The Inteprid Ibex
Scramble the letters around and you get:
Inhibited Expert - Tenoq, on 02/21/2008, -0/+20I felt embarrassed telling people I was testing Vista.
- bobbybobington, on 02/20/2008, -0/+20an extra syllable?
- flashingcurser, on 02/21/2008, -0/+19I wander if the Suse people would be upset by "Irritated Iguana" ?
- dinostabOMG, on 02/20/2008, -0/+19The tradition so far has been to use the adjective, rather than the animal - e.g. Feisty, Gutsy, Hardy, etc. So probably they will call it "Intrepid."
- flashingcurser, on 02/20/2008, -1/+19Just for fun, Microsoft codenames:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_codenames - bitterbug, on 02/21/2008, -1/+19Jumpy Jackal

Whiny Wombat
Youthful Yak
Zealous Zorilla (You thought I was going to say Zebra didn't you) - Protoss, on 02/20/2008, -0/+17Here's hoping the name Spicy Salamander is used somewhere along the lines!
- nailer, on 02/21/2008, -0/+15It's an awesome name - have you actually seen an ibex? They're second only to Kudu for coolness.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ibex - foldor, on 02/21/2008, -3/+17yeah, hoary hog produced some unique results....
- BlaenkDenum, on 02/20/2008, -2/+16Remember, bashers: These are code names. Like longhorn for example, they aren't meant to be used as release names. Release 'names' are just the version numbers, i.e. 7.04, 7.10, etc.
- bentrop, on 02/21/2008, -1/+15While detested by some, Ubuntu's odd code-names and their use way beyond development is one of Ubuntu's greatest features: Entering any of them into Google will turn up 99,5% content that is directly related to the version of Ubuntu you are running. This makes getting help much more easy.
- dacheetah, on 02/21/2008, -0/+14I'd have thought Interesting Ibis, or Intelligent Iguana.
- Chandon, on 02/21/2008, -0/+13Yea, in memory usage.
- Disfnord, on 02/21/2008, -0/+13reptile dysfunction?
- dacheetah, on 02/21/2008, -0/+12They could just start moving through other character sets.
- inactive, on 02/21/2008, -2/+14I like "8.10" way better, shows year, month and version all in one...
- inactive, on 02/20/2008, -5/+17Who gives a fuk about the name, Ubuntu is still awesome.
- mazza558, on 02/20/2008, -1/+12I had an idea it would be "______ Ibex" (since there's not that many animals beginning with I), but didn't think of Intrepid.
- atbnet, on 02/21/2008, -0/+11They've already duplicated some letters Hoary Hedgehog and Hardy Herron.
- LoganSerman, on 02/21/2008, -2/+12http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Capra_ibex_ibex ...
Badass. - ioannusdeverani, on 02/21/2008, -3/+13Yeah... I'm still disappointed about Hardy Heron; I was pulling for Horny Hippo...
- Reziarfg, on 02/21/2008, -1/+11Hungry Hippo*
- inactive, on 02/21/2008, -0/+10What happens when they hit Z? Another language?
- KloroFormd, on 02/21/2008, -0/+10ǠŴƎƧũm ǠŅƫ?
- pbaehr, on 02/21/2008, -0/+9He is including "The"
- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -0/+9Holy *****, check out those horns, how ***** awesome is that ***** right there: http://www.ics.uci.edu/~eppstein/pix/lazoo/Ibex-m. ...
- maybeway36, on 02/21/2008, -0/+9Firefox 2 + digg comments = slow.
- theaceoffire, on 02/21/2008, -1/+10I personally thought that "Longhorn" was much cooler than "Vista".
"Vista" sounded like a retarded name.
Same for using the "Wii" instead of "Revolution". - Pilot85, on 02/21/2008, -0/+9Indigent Ibis?
Impotent Iguana? - thefinger, on 02/21/2008, -0/+8When they get to K, I want Killer Komodo!
