- YouRookies, on 07/26/2008, -0/+13Jenna Jameson. Then Ubuntu be everywhere in the search engines.
- ZippyV, on 07/26/2008, -1/+12How about they fix the current issues with 8.04?
- RetepNamenots, on 07/26/2008, -2/+12They should have called Hardy Heron Hungry Hippo.
- ping1024, on 07/26/2008, -0/+9Ridiculously funny.. and sad..
- KungFuJ35u5, on 07/26/2008, -0/+9Oh hai!
http://www.gvzoo.com/files/u2/Ibex.jpg - audleylibrary, on 07/26/2008, -3/+11Potential Names for Ubuntu 9.x:
Jobless Jackrabbit
Jealous Jackalope
Joyful Jerboa
Jack-off Jaguar
Jumpy Javelina
Jovial Jellyfish
Jackass Jackal
...
That's it...seriously, there's not so many J animals. - motang, on 07/26/2008, -0/+7http://news.softpedia.com/news/Ubuntu-8-10-Alpha-3 ...
- dankoleary, on 07/25/2008, -1/+8This is shaping up to be a great release. If you don't want to use a spare computer, just run it in Virtual Box etc.
- Slade605, on 07/26/2008, -3/+10Did you upgrade my RAM?
- jamie191817, on 07/26/2008, -0/+6i think those window borders look better now.
- KungFuJ35u5, on 07/26/2008, -1/+7Agreed, however there is some risk for trademark infringement.
- balaknair, on 07/26/2008, -0/+5Having a regular fixed release cycle is a good thing- it enables the developers and testers to work to a schedule, and since there's only so much you can do in a limited period of time, it helps set achievable targets. It's also helpful for users since they know when to expect the next version and what changes to expect in it. The Ubuntu developers have so far come good on both counts.
eg. I'm skipping 8.04 and 8.10 for my home systems, sticking with 7.10, since I have everything configured to my liking and my main PC won't support most of the improvements in the 2.6.24.x kernel in Hardy Heron, and my dual boot PC(used mainly for PC games) won't boot kernel 2.6.24.x. On my new laptop I have 8.04. Since I'll be replacing my main Desktop PC by Spring 2009, I'll probably switch to 9.04(since 7.10 is supported till then). - ToadLeg, on 07/26/2008, -1/+6huh? What's wrong with the names they give the releases?
- horsepie, on 07/26/2008, -0/+5Used to happen to me with catalyst 8.6 on my HD4850 a couple of weeks ago, but I tried catalyst 8.7 today and there seems to be no problem for me. Give it a try if you haven't already!
- Tape99, on 07/26/2008, -0/+5I hope so because if i cant install my ati drivers with out getting the white screen of death. Im not going to use it.
- Katana314, on 07/26/2008, -0/+4Wow. Until now I didn't even realize they had been going through the alphabet.
- allyant, on 07/26/2008, -0/+4Screenshots?
- Slade605, on 07/26/2008, -0/+4Alliteration confuses the meek.
- mynameistux, on 07/26/2008, -0/+4I see what you didn't do there.
- localzuk, on 07/26/2008, -0/+3@KungFuJ35u5 - only if there is a Hungry Hippo operating system, or at most hungry hippo software. Trademarks are only valid in the markets they apply to.
- Stonekeeper, on 07/26/2008, -0/+3alpha test?
- fuckingusername, on 07/26/2008, -0/+3changes from 8.10 ?
- kricsek, on 07/26/2008, -1/+4It does not run in Virtual Box. It's a well known bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+b ... - mynameistux, on 07/26/2008, -0/+3I am waiting for K, they will probably just leave it up to KDE peoples, they seem so good at making things start with K
- Tyr7BE, on 07/26/2008, -0/+3They are. They're going to be continuously updating and polishing it for the next 5 years. I'm running it now, no complaints.
- secrity, on 07/26/2008, -0/+3They don't give the name to the release, they give it to the development versions. The release will officially be called Ubuntu 8.10, not Intrepid Ibex.
- Vadi0, on 07/26/2008, -1/+4I like the 8.04 theme. No brown, just nice orange (grey, black, green are taken...)
That said Digg is overhyped on Ubuntu *testing* releases. Or Ubuntu is reaching critical mass. One or the either. - mynameistux, on 07/26/2008, -0/+3*****,time travel, really?
- andrewa, on 07/26/2008, -0/+2EDIT: bury please...
- ha3er0, on 06/16/2009, -0/+2Current ubuntu intrepid alpha 3 release crashes at start with a kernel panic under VBox 1.6.2 when VT-x is not enabled.
- Skaidon, on 07/26/2008, -4/+6canihazlinuxz?
- binarysemaphore, on 07/26/2008, -2/+4oh boy..are they seriously going to use that theme ? And we thought orange-brown theme was ugly
- Skaidon, on 07/26/2008, -1/+3Personally I like the Ibex name, but I agree they could do better with some of them in fact Gutsy Gibbon for me was horrendous :(.
- LeviTheSmith, on 07/26/2008, -0/+2What is with Digg and dupe stories lately?
- British0zzy, on 07/26/2008, -0/+2not intrepid enough
- 3242130193, on 07/26/2008, -0/+2Nah, it loses the novelty when you only say Hungry Hippo. Come on, we all grew up with Hungry HUNGRY Hippos.
- arvvvs, on 07/27/2008, -0/+1Takes time, mostly till Alpha 5 when they get it going. They have some big features planned.
- chris062689, on 07/27/2008, -0/+1When are we getting new features?
Seems like all we've been getting is Xorg and Kernel updates. - jockser, on 07/28/2008, -0/+1I made the switch! from vista to ubuntu and I like it.
- aserer511, on 07/27/2008, -0/+1ah sorry, i misspoke.
- inactive, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1I would advise anyone upgrading from 8.04 to 8.10 be careful. It cost me a reload of 8.04 probably some hardware issue???
- Mundo, on 07/27/2008, -0/+1Are you joking? Vista is the most stable OS i've ever used and I use Ubuntu on a daily basis...
- arvvvs, on 07/27/2008, -0/+1It wasn't till Alpha 5 or 6 they had the wallpaper
- BlackJacket, on 07/26/2008, -1/+2Well, it is still in Alpha. At least they aren't spending all their time picking out new wallpaper, eh?
- BlackJacket, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1Dugg for "Joker" reference. Ubuntu - Heath Ledger Edition
- blackjack75, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1At least you're lucky enough that after restoring the X system (booting in safe mode) after this very same ATI issue you don't get an AZERTY (french) keyboard on the login panel ... took me a while to manage to type my login with that. And then.. back to editing X11 config. Sigh.
- arvvvs, on 07/27/2008, -0/+1Janet Jackson.
- arvvvs, on 07/27/2008, -0/+1Shuttleworth confirmed that that theme was just an experiment.
