- digupp, on 10/30/2007, -4/+32Nice job copy pasting - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardyReleaseSchedule
- RockinRoel, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21Wow, what a suprise! It's coming out in April!
/sarcasm - bradym80, on 10/10/2007, -7/+25Hardy Hardon?
- borninda818, on 10/10/2007, -3/+20I'm still drooling over 7.10...how bout we go one step at a time here.
- D0m0kun, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17.04 = april .10 = october, 7 = 2k7
- ShadowH8ing, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17i wish they could have chosen Horny Horntoad instead
- muniak, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14I'm dumb.
- Shootfast, on 11/02/2007, -0/+12Hungry Hippo? :'(
- Yuglooc, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11The version number has to do with the release date.
7.10 = 2007.October
7.04 = 2007.April - davodavo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Year.Month
- hyperair, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Wasn't it Hungry Hippo? =P
- xike, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6When's Gimpy Giraffe supposed to come out?
- netant, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Doh. 6.06 is Dapper Drake.
- Stemp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+47.04 is not an LTS, 8.04 will be and the actual one is 6.06 ;)
- twtmc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+42 things they FINALLY fixed: Almost all hardware works out of the box now, and xorg has a GUI.
- migla, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4If you are interested in the dates for the different steps that lead to the release (such as "FeatureFreeze" and other steps along the way), then this is more than a non-story.
- venom8599, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5You're using 7.04, and yes, there are plenty of reasons to upgrade.
- netant, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5No, 7.04 is Feisty Fawn, and that's only covered for a year. 6.06 is Edgy Eft, and that is the current LTS.
- SimonUK, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Yes a simple xorg.conf edit to change colour depth should do it, at least that got 7.04 working for me.
- garg, on 10/10/2007, -1/+47.04 had great restricted drivers support. They are definitely improving hardware support.
- Gavagai80, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3If you've used automatix or envy you might not want to upgrade, since they tend to cause upgrade problems. Otherwise it'll be a smooth upgrade requiring no effort.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Compiz Fusion ***** up Feisty.
- venom8599, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The only problem most *nix distros will have is because of the emulated video card that Virtual PC uses. The model it's emulating supports 24-bit color depth, but Microsoft chose not to implement it, and so it causes problems when automatically detected and configured for 24-bit color depth.
- sexybobo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2i still wonder what hoary hedgehog thinks about some one taking his letter.
- iceschade, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Simple to install, yeah. But every time I've installed compiz/beryl/compiz_fusion, it's worked for about a minute, then various windows start turning pure black (menus, too). So even though the compositing works, the majority of the time it's impossible to reliably use (for me).
I've had it on my laptop (nVidia card) as well as my desktop (ATI) and both had the same problem. - iceschade, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Maybe... But why does that matter?
Not to mention... Microsoft is working out patents and methods for putting ads in your everyday computer usage... Start typing in Word and suddenly a pop-up appears advertising a related product.
Do you really want to live with an OS that keeps trying to sell you stuff? (Unless you're one of those Home Shopping Network types, in which case I'd totally understand you wanting to see all the ads.) - kazamx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2yup I went back to Beryl on my Feisty box. However Fusion OWNS on Gutsy
- Gavagai80, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Just keep it in mind with your next laptop purchase so that you don't restrict your options next time.
- monkeyboy7706, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1And to work out the release schedule for Impotent Iguana and each subsequent release just keep adding six months to each date.
- jm1234567890, on 11/13/2007, -5/+6what's with the release number? why .04 then .10 ?
- zezerik, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3I like how they put "Gaming" as the last chapter before the verdict. Most people won't read that far to find out Linux sucks balls in that arena.
- netant, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1What's your laptop model? Did you bother to lookup your wifi chipset?
- charlie763, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1If it's a Broadcom card, yeah, it'll probably work. I've installed 7.10 Gutsy on my 12" Aluminum PowerBook with an AirPort Extreme card (a Broadcom chipset) and it's listed in the Restricted Drivers Manager. I just check the enable box, select to download the firmware from the internet option and I'm up and running.
For 7.04 you may want to try the command, "sudo apt-get install bcm43xx-fwcutter". You may have to enable universe or multiverse, but that should take care of you. If you give it a try, reply here and let others know how it worked out. Cheers! - netant, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It works, but barely. Can't seem to get beyond 802.11b (11mb) performance, when its a g card (54Mb), and I can't get it to associate in weak signal areas where it works in Vista. (bleh!). At least the hackers are able to get packet injection working, but I can't get a useful Managed connection.
- mpineiro, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Or Hungry Hippo
- krazykirk, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3I still think Hungry Hippo would of been waaaaay cooler.
- Chicken001, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Your face is a GUI.
- dafragsta, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1http://www.thinginabag.com/content/hungry-hippo
- Chicken001, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I really hope and I worry that my computer is going to be ***** up by the distro-update. All I remember that my last distro-update ***** my tweaks, screwed my computer. I'm going to do a backup before I go ahead for the distro-update. That really pissed me off. All I did was edit /etc/apt/sources.list and certain and simple performance tweaks. Then edited my theme to have to Ubuntu-Studio theme.
- Chicken001, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I've already got it running for 7.04. ***** load of messing around to get it working though and it's still not perfect.
- sctronlinux, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1There is Chinese version of HardyReleaseSchedule.
http://sctronlinux.blog.sohu.com/64228272.html - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2I hope you mean 7.04 and 7.10 includes Compiz Fusion for one.
- jtp51, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2So, a Vista Service Pack might be out by then?
- markdall, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2It's true, that's what I read at first.
- golddigga, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1first whorey hedgehog and now horny hardon
- zezerik, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I also like how I comment on the wrong story and get diggs for it. Interesting.
- Psych77, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I thought Compiz Fusion and Beryl were the same thing now, or am I stupid?
- spacebar14, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Jono Bacon? That's an awesome name.
- zwaldowski, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0xorg is a GUI. :-D
