- anshuman, on 11/07/2007, -5/+109Digged for torrents. Say yes to filesharing Opensource distro on p2p :)
- traxen, on 10/19/2007, -3/+66With torrents.. we synchronize our efforts to meltdown the internet gradually.

- Yez70, on 10/19/2007, -1/+53It's a torrent. They can't meltdown.
- tommybear, on 10/28/2007, -3/+51After leaving Linux be for a couple of years, I come back and try the Release Candidate of Ubuntu 7.10 (gnome desktop) a couple of days back. It blew me away. The feeling I got, was the same as the one I got, when I realised that firefox was going to replace my internet explorer. The OS is fantastic. Not only is it pretty, but it is also super functional... most things "just work"... just like a mac. Very nice Ubuntu team. Very nice indeed.
- JBAlaska, on 10/20/2007, -9/+54I love Ubuntu! Gutsy Gibbon Final, Linux at it's finest!
- drimsun, on 10/24/2007, -17/+58Time to throw Vista out the window!
- kazamx, on 10/19/2007, -1/+38WOW that thing is HUGE 4.7GB WTF.
If you want a smaller file to download, you can get the gutsy live CD ISO (700mb) from this link

I don't know what the DVD one comes with, but the CD version has all the office, IM, internet apps as far as I can tell - canthraxp, on 10/19/2007, -5/+42Today is the official ubuntu orgasm day.

http://torrent.ubuntu.com/releases/gutsy/release/d ... - zzzpoohzzz, on 10/25/2007, -1/+27well this is the torrent... so its keeping a lot of stress of the server...
legal p2p ftw - jpaolini, on 10/28/2007, -0/+25To quote the Wired review also currently on the homepage:
"The familiar old script that Linux is only for geeks has been largely rewritten recently with the arrival of Ubuntu, a version of Linux for the average user. In its three years on the scene, Ubuntu has quickly gained a reputation for being easy to configure and use."
I thought they worded that well. - MagicCake, on 10/20/2007, -5/+2912 diggs. Why?!
- kazamx, on 10/20/2007, -0/+19http://releases.ubuntu.com/7.10/ubuntu-7.10-deskto ... is the one you want
- greenhead916, on 10/25/2007, -0/+18What has the Linux world come to? When I was a kid, if there wasn't driver for a peripheral, you wrote one...and you liked it.
- r00tus3r, on 10/19/2007, -3/+20Do some research before you spout off moron. Ubuntu DOES give you the cd FOR FREE if you request it.
- ucffool, on 10/20/2007, -0/+16Found it on the ubuntu forums:
-----
the dvd contains more packages and all three installer types with the dvd you can pick between the live install that gives you a full gui to test out/play with before you install or use as a rescue cd.
the alternative install the gives you a text based install that gives a little more in depth control on the install, this is also great for lower specd ie machines with 128mb and lower amount ram.
and the server install this installs a minimal set of packages for server use this install type doesn't include a gui since it's just more overhead for a server do not use this if your installing it for a desktop/workstation
the default install cd only has the live install method and and fewer packages included on cd however it does install the full Ubuntu distro, it just doesn't include the extra packages the dvd does because they are available for download through the repos
hope this helps,
codejunkie - shredswithpiks, on 10/28/2007, -1/+16I wouldn't say it's any easier to configure than any other distro with synaptics app manager installed.... but ubuntu is great because it cuts down on a bunch of bloat software that other distros (SuSe, redHat, whatever) want to install if you don't uncheck the boxes during installation. Ubuntu also comes with everyday tools that actually get used (gaim/pidgin, openOffice, etc) and now it has compiz installed by default so you don't even have to mess with that.
Ubuntu is popular because it works well for lazy people. Lazy people like me. - kazamx, on 10/20/2007, -0/+15Oh man. your going to get all the feisty Fun AND gutsy goodness in one go. Your going to have a really good day

http://torrent.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/releases/gutsy/r ... - mercurysquad, on 10/19/2007, -0/+14ubuntu <3 Like this?
- OrangeTide, on 10/28/2007, -3/+16You should not have used a direct link. A lot of people are loading the torrent accidentally, hitting the tracker and then canceling, wasting everyone's bandwidth.
- freezerburn666, on 10/18/2007, -1/+13its an operating system for a computer... comp-u-tor
- ArthurSucks, on 10/20/2007, -2/+14Was that a pun?
- NiX0n, on 10/19/2007, -0/+11This isn't about the release. It's about the torrent. The site is getting slammed, and nobody wants to hunt for the torrent.
p.s. Anybody seen a Kubuntu torrent? - MasteRR, on 10/19/2007, -1/+12Don't feed the trolls.
- lickmyback, on 10/19/2007, -2/+13Thank you for having the presence of mind NOT to link directly to the servers...
- kazamx, on 10/19/2007, -0/+11yup all or nothing. We have proved Digg can take down a server here or a server there. The Question now is in combination with the Ubuntu community, can we take out the whole net?
- sroberson, on 11/03/2007, -2/+13kubuntu-7.10-desktop-i386.iso.torrent:
http://mirror.anl.gov/pub/ubuntu-iso/CDs/kubuntu/g ... - paulsmith288, on 10/19/2007, -0/+11I see your point. But wait to leopard comes out - there will be lots of frontpage stories
- kazamx, on 10/20/2007, -0/+10They added even more wireless support in this release. With luck your card will work now
- MasteRR, on 10/19/2007, -1/+11Why not? With the servers under a large load it will be faster to download and if you seed you will be helping the effort. Or are you one of those people who assume all torrents are illegal? Do you work for the RIAA/MPAA?
- jkharris07, on 10/18/2007, -2/+12Good to see this make the front page, Hopefully everyone will seed as much as they leech.
- plingboot, on 10/19/2007, -1/+11but do they give you a free disc?
https://shipit.ubuntu.com/ - DanielYH, on 10/18/2007, -0/+10I do.
- b33rboy, on 10/28/2007, -3/+13yeah! NTFS writing here I come.
- Murphious, on 10/18/2007, -3/+13Wow! The torrent is up to 1100 seeds! Go you good thing!
- Twogigs, on 10/20/2007, -2/+11I love all the inbred morons that are coming to this article with their comments on how little their care about the release. If you don't care, why the ***** are you bothering to post a comment? Pardon my French while I bury all the idiots.
On a positive note: w00t Gutsy. - theragu40, on 10/20/2007, -0/+9Show me the link to the other frontpage story that directly links to the torrent. Can't find it? Huh, that's odd.
- aanhorn, on 10/19/2007, -1/+10Here's the link for the 7.10 PPC port (for PPC based Macs, etc)
http://torrent.ubuntu.com/ports/releases/gutsy/rel ... - akkibaba, on 10/19/2007, -0/+9"It has to be a freaky geek thing , so I don't think i will need it."
Explain to me, then, why you felt the need to click on the story and comment multiple times. - Phocion55, on 10/25/2007, -2/+10Thank you for furthering my theory that there is really no such thing as an "MS fanboy" - only ignorant dumbasses.
- Ub3rg33k, on 10/20/2007, -1/+9BTW - If you find bugs in Gutsy Gibbon, PLEASE REPORT THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ - JBAlaska, on 10/18/2007, -6/+14Now that it's dugg..not long lol
Please use BitTorrent to download! - StealthTomato, on 10/19/2007, -0/+8First off, if you're going to insult someone, do it right: "nerds."
Secondly, that's the most pathetic reasoning for not using something EVER. I think I'm not going to breathe air anymore, since grungy wife-beaters breathe air, and that's not a group I want to belong to.
Also, how can you claim non-nerdliness if you're on digg reading comments on a story about Ubuntu to begin with? - koweja, on 10/19/2007, -2/+10Yeah, because you can't (legally or physically) take the freely distributed software and burn it to a CD using free burning software.
Cost of getting a Windows or OSX disc = $80+
Cost of getting a Linux disc = $0.10 for the disc
(approximately) - MaverickAlex, on 10/18/2007, -1/+9You are a very annoying person.
- Ub3rg33k, on 10/19/2007, -5/+13Ok, I'm excited too but let's not flood the front page. That ends up turning people off.
- jpaolini, on 10/28/2007, -2/+10Putting 100mbit into these, maybe it'll help? :-/
Good to see it out finally. I still use Windows primarily (and probably still will) but I'm definitely looking forward to giving this a shot! :) - damienp, on 10/28/2007, -0/+8The community keeps me coming back :)
