- JefffN, on 10/11/2007, -5/+121Everyone knows it's almost impossible to find a good driver for Linux...
- HCviolence, on 10/11/2007, -3/+113It's sad that tux has to take on a second job to make ends meet.
- a3r0, on 10/11/2007, -0/+76Apparently they have permission...

"We wish to thank Larry Ewing at lewing@isc.tamu.edu for letting us use "TUX" the penguin as our mascot/logo" - schestowitz, on 10/11/2007, -3/+54Let's hope that truck does better than the Indy500 racing car with a Tux logo on it.
- drmsucks, on 10/11/2007, -14/+42BREAKING: Microsoft files patent infringement suit against Tux claiming that they had the "Penguin on the side of a truck" idea first.
- Megatog615, on 10/11/2007, -3/+29I wonder if they acknowledged Larry Ewing?
Tell your friend to give em' a call and see if they know where it really came from. - TheRemoteViewer, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20I always told people you couldn't make any money with free software!
- addicted68098, on 10/11/2007, -0/+19To the tuxmobile!
- clarkembree, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15yes, they did: from a comment below---

"We wish to thank Larry Ewing at lewing@isc.tamu.edu for letting us use "TUX" the penguin as our mascot/logo" - Brightside, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15The joke worked without your correction.
- PatrickBrown, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15Unfortunately his inability to crash meant fewer support dollars.
- leavermentality, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15hey, i took it, its 'sort of' photoshopped.
it looks ***** because i took it on my cellphone and accidentally took it as a movie.
so i used photoshop to combine two ***** compressed stills of the movie into one longer jpeg. otherwise you could read even less of the name of the company - samuelcotterall, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12I once met some goth girl with the BSD devil tattooed in her arm and I was like "Wow, so you must be a sys-admin or something" she looked at me blankly so I proceeded to explain her tattoo. She replied "Oh, no. It's just something I found on the Internet. Cool, huh?"
- iofthestorm, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12Your comment wins the internets.
- chronot150, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Such is the folly of jpegs.
- culbeda, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10The logo is cute and I certainly give kudos to Larry for creating it, but anyone think that it's probably time to jazz Tux up a little bit? Something a little less cutsie, perhaps? Nothing symbolizes power and sophistication like a cute, little cartoon penguin.
/prepares for immediate burial... - terrorpin, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8I've seen quite a few businesses over the years use the MS Publisher default pyramid logo, which is really pathetic. The only one it made sense for was a builder.
- pastasauce, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Thank you, Captain Obvious.
- radam, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Vaporized that controversy.
- DolphinGL, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7That not photoshop, that's low jpg compression.
Know what you're talking about, THEN post. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5That's so friggin' cool. Larry is the man for creating Tux...
- idonthack, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4You slapped her right? Or at least called her a mean name?
- Tetraca, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Ignorance is strength!
- ToadLeg, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5wrong article Inspecality
- sanford42, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3such is the folly of jpegs taken with a camera phone, as well
- saralk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Not that they'd need permission, since the tux logo is free.
- mygrayarea, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2If there were jpg artifacts around the tux but not around the letters, then it might be a photoshop job. But jpg artifact alone are not sign of a shoop.
- idonthack, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1That race car crashed pretty well.
- championchap, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Yeah I was wondering about that.. The Tux Logo must be free, so can anybody use it for anything they want?
Could we even name something Linux if we wanted?
Just curious as to how deep the freedom well goes. - aaronm67, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1"Permission to use and/or modify this image is granted provided you acknowledge me lewing@isc.tamu.edu and The GIMP if someone asks."
So...no, they don't need permission, but they do have to include that line. - sam991, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Shotgun the Tux Galaxy!
- Alexio, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I worked at a shop which to this day uses the MS Publisher logo as it's main business logo. It's a computer shop that actually does really well. It's not really that much of a bad thing, especially if it finds familiarity with customers.
- Arabani, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The author released the Tux logo with this "license": Permission to use and/or modify this image is granted provided you acknowledge me lewing@isc.tamu.edu and The GIMP if someone asks.
Linux, on the other hand, is trademarked. I'm fairly certain if the product you're slapping it on is unrelated to operating systems or computers in every conceivable way, then you're free to use it, otherwise you're violating a trademark. - BigJ27, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Ineed. Not only low resolution and high compression, but a crappy camera as well.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2does it go any further?
- cptl, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0At the State Museum of Pennsylvania, there was (maybe still is) a science exhibition on vortices. They have the Debian swirl logo plastered all over the windows.
- XdarkXanarchyX, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Any pics?
- InitialDMP5, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1true, it looks like a beanie baby, just sitting there, collecting dust.
- Wootery, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1I think a "Whether that statement is correct or not, it's not that simple" would have been more appropriate.
- GentooNiXGeek, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0lol.
- Shadow503, on 10/11/2007, -9/+6I for one, look forward to our open source insulation overlords.
- Wootery, on 10/11/2007, -5/+2Sure...
If trucks could run, they'd run Linux.
Linux: Firestopping, even without a firewall.
Apologies for those being so shamefully terrible. - mmcwhorter, on 10/11/2007, -9/+3@nsummy
It could be photoshopped, but what you describe sounds like pretty standard JPEG compression. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -9/+2http://pictureposter.allbrand.nu/pictures/danielc/atfirst.jpg
- D0P3M4N, on 10/11/2007, -11/+3Linux to the rescue!
- pplude92, on 10/11/2007, -15/+3No *****, that's why it's free,,,
- inspecality, on 10/11/2007, -25/+6I think the original comment was "Sounds like a driver issue to me" or something along those lines.
- nsummy, on 10/11/2007, -21/+1It looks photoshopped. Look at the pixelation around the letters and tux image
