- Darmichar, on 10/12/2007, -4/+61But Mythos, those others weren't the submitter's blog. So it's different you see, because this is HIS blog and it's soooo much better than those other submissions.
[/sarcasm]
Yeah, I wish I could bury it twice. Once for blog spam and once for being a duplicate. - slothchunk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+43@alex0r
I would totally buy that album - BoomShake007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+36http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/games/action_adventure/tremulous.html
- Tallon29, on 10/12/2007, -8/+43Allegedly.
- bestadvocate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30What about OpenArena? I personally like the gameplay on that much more. Based on the same Quake3 engine, it may look uglier than this beautiful Tremulous, but playing as these stupid midget aliens is difficult and disorienting (don't play if your especially prone to vertigo attacks), while the human teams are underpowered. End result, the 2 or 3 people who play all the time on the server are controlling the entire game.
Got to love id software for the engine source code ether way - Obidose, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17Yes it is submitted a lot, but it is an awesome game and I'm sure most diggers are happy to be reminded of it now and then. Also I have no doubt the publicity helps the game along which is, in my opinion at least, the best open source game ever made.
eugh, but now I look at it it is disgraceful blogspam. why not link straight to http://www.tremulous.org ? - Stonekeeper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14WARNING: Tremulous is VERY addictive.
See you on there :) - alex0r, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17I just installed and played OpenArena, and its UGLY, they rapped the quake3 engine :-|
In Tremulous, playing as a Dretch can be disorienting but fun. - Pootle4rthur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I doubt you're going to get an awful lot of sympathy
- jon02129, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Come on, RTFA. It's right there at the very top.
Ugh. *Edit: BoomShake beat me to the link. - gabster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9try http://sauerbraten.org/
- mrThefter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Personally, I prefer Natural Selection.
But it's not open source. =(
And ditto to the disorienting alien lifeforms. - brasso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8You really cant compare those games, they are very different.
- Obidose, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9sorry edit timer ran out, correct url: http://www.tremulous.net
- leileilol, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10It is. It's Free and it assures there's no shady spyware crap either. Go stick to your propeirtary crap stolen NinjaDM 'standalone free game', kthx
- Stemp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Install a Linux in dual boot, so you can play under Linux and boot Vista for boring stuffs ;)
- streetstealth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I admit that even when I submitted the one at the top of your list, it was already a dupe. But I don't see that as a poor use of Digg: I had noticed the previous headlines didn't really give it a chance -- "Tremu-what?" -- so I came up with a more descriptive, unique headline, and it just happened to make it to the FP.
But hey -- I think the fact that the later ones (including this one) got dugg too is only a good thing. It's a cool project that deserves exposure, and the fact that this is the third time it's made the FP just means that more people are learning about it each time! - moofree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Yeah, I do like NS better than Tremulous. It's not open source, but it's better.
NS Source should be excellent!
My favorite open source game is Nexuiz. That's some of the fastest, craziest, deathmatch I've ever played.
Second favorite is Marathon Aleph One. - conradpaul, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5and its universal
- Pootle4rthur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4the multiplayer aspect put me off, I don't mind a bit of multiplayer once I've had a chance to get the hang of a game against AI
otherwise being shot in the head and called a n00b rather takes the fun out of things
After a long day at work, I don't just want to spend all night being given grief and being shot in the back,
I get enough of that at the office - xptweakerntn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I submitted this game.
http://digg.com/linux_unix/Tremulous
However, Legends is much better.
http://digg.com/linux_unix/Legends_The_Game
Savage and True Combat are also really fun.
http://digg.com/linux_unix/Savage_The_Game (Has a mode basically just like BF2 Commander mode.)
http://digg.com/linux_unix/TRUE_COMBAT_ELITE_2 - SixFeetUnder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Uh why would you download that version? The latest is found at http://trem.tjw.org/ .
It's version # 20060704 and now has QVM support or something like that. - jaims, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Its very addictive, and when u get used to the particularities of aliens (wallwalk and everything) is great!
- stalefries, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Are you serious? Try making sure your scanning the internet for servers, and not your LAN or favorites. Last I checked, there were something like over a hundred servers.
- antiNeo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6@Spamiclese
Natural Selection doesn't run on Linux or OSX... nor is it open source. - swazooe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3...read hamGrenade's comment 2 comments up and find out yourself
- Joe_rigby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's a great game, just make sure to get the latest maps.
- benplaut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3in addition, trem started dev before NS was released. It's actually more based on Gloom, a similar mod for Q2
- R34C7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Actually, diggers such as myself whom either do not spend their lives on digg or are relatively new appreciate the recap because we missed it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2from their faq http://tremulous.net/faq/
"Isn't Tremulous just a copy of Natural Selection?
No. Development on Tremulous began long before NS was in the public domain. If Tremulous is inspired by anything, it is inspired by Gloom for Quake 2. NS has a similar ancestry (please see Game Developer Magazine February 2001 issue); this is probably where the confusion arises. "
Fun game. Much faster pace than NS. runs under OSX on my lame-o G4. check the forum if you're after the mac port (it's a community port) Version 1.2 is in the works. - mrThefter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2With a game like this, AI is rather difficult to implement.
Unless you want AI that doesn't utilize the RTS portions very well. - inim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Weak Natural Selection (mod for halflife) clone. Weak and not nearly as much fun."
this was in the works before NS was released. its a game based of the idea of Gloom (an old q2 mod), in the wait for gloom 2 for doom3 this started out ...
its good fun and ive played some of the dev's both this and gloom. - emanuel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4@Darmichar
There was a blog somewhere in those ads? - benplaut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Not those elements. Play a bit and you'll see.
- immrlizard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That looks like a good game too. I don't think I have ever seen that one before.
- immrlizard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What planet are you from or do you have a money tree in your back yard? Back under your bridge troll.
- mrThefter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ah, Marathon. Bungie before the days of Halo.
I'll have to look up this Nexuiz, though. - Eccent, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This game is really fun and addictive.
I've been playing for at least 6 months now on various Macs(runs well on MacBooks). I advise not playing within 2 hours of the time you want to go to sleep, because the adrenaline rushing through your system can make you quite awake. - franick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Savage is much better, people who are new to the revolutionary RTSS will find savage more fun, whereas tremulous lacks NPC units to harvest money and exp from, making the gameplay one sided should you spend your first time playing against some1 who knows the basics..
- proghead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i can't find anyone to play :(
- chaos7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2so what i never would have seen it if this one wasn't posted
- stalefries, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Are you talking about bots? There's been a lot of discussion, and the basic conclusion was that alien bots would be very hard to do, since they have to deal with wall-walking.
- betacmag4u, on 12/02/2007, -0/+1Since it's been submitted so many time one more won't hurt !
- cobweb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hey this is cool. I've been looking for good free multiplayer games for OS X. Anyone know of any other good ones?
- goffy59, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the graphics aren't bad.. they could touch them up a bit, quake 3 team arena looks very pretty.. I'm sure they could do the same on tremulous. But tremulous is a very good game.
- Latka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1xsuite:
Maybe you can port it to Mac then?
The world doesn't revolve around your Mac you know. It really doesn't. - AaronS2000, on 12/10/2007, -0/+1This game is very addicting and the community as a whole is helpful and friendly. +1
- socokoolaid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I haven't tried this in awhile, maybe it got better, but when I did it sucked ass, and seemed to be multilayer only.
- thinsoldier, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5I am so tired of seeing lackluster, amateurish, un-fun, and ugly games like tremulous get mass exposure while truly awesome, fun, and beautiful mods like quake three fortress http://www.q3f.com/shots_hud.html are either dead, dying, or in permanent limbo :(
OpenArena would be a million times better if it had any of the hundreds of top-notch user made models from polycount.com in it by default.
And nexiuz....that thing feels so much like quake one I just quit and go play Quake 1 instead. Anyone remember the zeus bot!!! By damn that bot was Satan with a Lightning Gun! And Quake Rally! OMG that game was so simple yet so much fun!
...holy crap...Rune Quake is still alive...http://www.runequake.com/docs/ ... http://www.denken.com/dzone/q1article006.htm ... warcraft be damned, I know what I'm doing this weekend. -

What is Digg?
