- coredump0x01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+29Most are the games on the DVD are free, the ones that aren't are just demo's. I gues the only questionable things would be including the binary graphics drivers, but if they didn't, then this wouldn't be much of a live gaming DVD.
- coredump0x01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15I think that's the torrent for the old version, but I'm not sure. Just in case: http://supergamer.org/downloads/SuperGamer2.torrent
- UKsHaDoW, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18Linux is just as much a gaming platform as windows. Its just that developers jumped on windows and directx, because of more users.
- hackwrench, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16What is the copyright infringment/clearance situation with this?

Perhaps you've never heard of this wonderful 'new' tool called Google, But you can use it to find many many very nice Linux native games and resource sites. Here, I'll get you started: http://www.google.com/search?q=Linux+Games&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a - schestowitz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Nice!! Screenshots here:

http://www.arsgeek.com/?p=737 - regeya, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13I have to say, as a Linux user, that I agree: Linux is not a gaming platform. However, neither is OS X. And despite anything anyone says to the contrary, I don't think Windows is either. There just happen to be games that target those platforms.
A show of hands: How many of you have ever tried a multiplatform game on more than one operating system on the same computer? I have, or at least demos. Despite DirectX supposedly being a thin layer between userland software and hardware, I have found the Linux equivalents often to be faster. That's not a steadfast rule, nor is it definitive proof (not by a long shot), but it's been my experience.
And as for Linux not being for regular people? Go try to fix a b0rked Windows or OS X install and tell me if either of those are for your grandma. I dare ya. Don't come back until you've done that.
Want a gaming platform? Buy an XBox. or a Wii. Or a PS3. Those are gaming platforms. :-) The hardware is cheaper, and the pricing on games is nearly the same as you'll see for computer games. - coredump0x01, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10"Linux is not a gaming platform"
If that's true, Then I'd like to know why my desktop is cluttered with game icons, and how they could possibly get daily playtime from me. You don't have to spend your paycheck at Best Buy's game section to be a gamer.
And it's my experience that Linux games perform much better then their windows ports with way fewer frameskips and much faster load time, even on my aging nVidia 5200. - Hellmark, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10@aahpandasrun - There is nothing stopping Linux from being a gaming platform, other than there aren't many games being produced. Thats not the fault of the OS, but rather the game industry itself. Still, nice to see stuff like this trying to grab some attention, so people might give Linux some support with games.
- idonthack, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7IIRC the video drivers are licensed to be distributed. The only problem is some people say the binary drivers taint the GPL kernel. Hardcore OSS guys say that but I don't think it's really the true because the binary drivers (at least nvidia's drivers, idk about ATI) have an open source layer between them and the kernel that is compatible with the GPL.
Even if it did violate the GPL, I would prefer them to be included because it adds functionality and they are still free. - BlindIrishman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Have you ever played a RTS on a console? It just doesn't work. Some people prefer keyboard and mouse for their FPS's aswell.
- regeya, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@coredump0x01:
Same here. Well, I've not been playing Linux games lately because I've been a busy boy the past few years and I don't exactly have (or necessarily need, mind you) a speed demon system, but I always applauded id software's efforts in the Linux area, because the Linux ports were always so much nicer, even when Linux wasn't tuned for desktop use. - Wootery, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Hmm, didn't I block you earlier?
This *****'s been spamming a lot today, go for little blue button! - wastern, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I've been running Quake 4 off of Sabayon Linux live dvd. We've played up to 7 person multiplayer over the lan and the frame rate hasn't been bad. there is a little lag at first, but it picks up and becomes pretty smooth
turn off shadows and all the junk and it gets moving really well - HardwareLust, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4USB key?

SWEET! great work guys.
cough...long live texstar..... - JacNet, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5All i want to know is how much RAM this would use. :P
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+12Direct Link to 3.5 GB Torrent: http://supergamer.org/downloads/supergamer.torrent
This looks very good but I wonder how many of the games are actual games ant not just a demo.(3.5 GB doesn't fit very much) - saftaplan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@dkoon: that's the whole discussion. GNU/Linux is absolutely much more capable as a gaming platform than Windows (the games that run well on Wine, often even run better than on Windows), there's just not being developed for it because it's not much used as a desktop, just like Mac OS X. BTW, there are many games on Linux that are not free as in beer (or not even free as in freedom). I use Linux because I want a better OS, not because I'm poor.
- c0uchm0nster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4ive got an amd x2 3800, 1gig ram, a geforce 6800gs (pci-e), and a slow as all hell hard drive and a few of my games run faster on linux than they do on windows, albeit not all of them. the only issue i've run into with cross-platform AAA games is ut2004 which is more an issue of a bad installer than a performance issue (if you install as root so everyone can play you actually make it so only root can play... installer doesn't give correct permissions to most of the game files).
i'm a bit torn about linux releases like this. i mean i know the general open-source mantra is if you want to change something you can, and that's why there's hundreds of different linux distributions out there. but on the other hand something like this seems kind of like a waste. i mean if you want these games easily accessible you install them on your real linux os. making a live dvd hardly makes more sense than just dual-booting windows (yes you'd then have to use/pay for windows, but you'd also get thousands more games). - HardwareLust, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2C&C 3 is being developed for Xbox 360. BFME II was already released for 360. I played it, and it wasn't bad, but I still prefer mouse/kybd myself.
- cyroxos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I assume coredump0x01 posted the CORRECT torrent?
- h0dg3s, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3How can you save games from a live dvd?
- idonthack, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@c0uchm0nster
I've never had the problem you mentioned with UT2004. Are you using the graphical installer? I always used the command line.
Also, the purpose of this DVD is to dispel the myth that there are no mainstream games for Linux. They're just demos anyways, nobody would play them for more than a week or two before they bought the full version. - dhughes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1 I thought the all Games Linux LiveCD was an urban legend! I often saw it mentioned but all the links were fake or a dead end.
My torrent is currently at 99.6% stay tuned. - postaldave, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5true some are just demos but i'll bet if the demo works popping in the game CD would open the rest of the game. i love all the free software with linux but there is nothing wrong with paid software to get the latest and greatest in gaming to work on a virus free OS.
- TomP, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Not enough seeds
- WarDave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If they had instructions where I could add in my own games it would be cool. Like EQ or Vanguard or something like that.
- rhettnyedotorg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@coredump offtopic for one but dude google is useless! you have to use three different hacks to find anything these days. it's ridiculous.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Actually, I've played C&C Red Alert on PS1 back in the day. It was kinda fun.
- dhughes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1 I can't get it to run on my system "unable to mount ".... have to have a look at it later it may be nothing.
- Wootery, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Xbox 360 reasoning there, I see.
- rhettnyedotorg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ok so it's got this little problem that i can't fix.
the volume bar won't go away and it's in the middle of the screen. it's my lame ass audio card. it resembles someone's failed attempt at implementing a custom graphic for the laptop key combo: + (Vol Up/Vol Dn.)
tried booting with nosound but it was to noavail.
forums on the site seem empty. reporting as lame. - kasuro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1actually, it's darin who did the re-master of PCLOS. While Tex is the hero for PCLOS, the SuperGamer is Darin's brain child. Props To Darin and Supergamer.org
- teh1337one, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Got the DVD, but my mouse and my keyboard did not work. I then dug up a non-USB mouse and keyboard from my basement, plugged them in, and booted again. Now, the keyboard worked, but the mouse did not. I went into the 'hardware' section: from 'my computer', selected 'USB viewer' or something like that, and it had a pop up that said something like "Sorry, but USB support has not been compiled into the kernel". So, none of the 3 mice that I tried worked, and inserting USB sticks did nothing either, obviously. Just so that you know, my hardware is: Logitech MX518 mouse, some old hp keyboard, and an old cheap Microsoft mouse, an e-machines ball mouse.
- rhettnyedotorg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1uh oh. i'm 68% recording my disc. hopefully turns out for me.
i'm on a dell inspiron 5160 P4 2.8/512/nvidia geforce go5200. Most live dvds work for me (Suse, Knoppix, etc) so hopefully this one is good.
No experience with PCLOS so fingers crossed... will report back. - zuul86, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have the same problem with the volume bar. LAME
- ziadoz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Linux isn't for casual users, and it still has a long way to go to get there. Distributions like Ubuntu have taken big steps in the desktop Linux area though. Windows XP doesn't bork at all unless you do something totally stupid, and its a great gaming operating system as well. Anyone who's tried stripped down versions of XP, or versions with unnecessary services turned off will tell you its possible to get blazing performance. Even if you do this XP is still the gaming OS of choice until Vista comes out.
- fyre2012, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5hm, how are the framerates for stuff like this?
In my experience, running anything with heavy 3d stuff on *nix, using opengl and hardware accel drivers or not, has been less than fun. - wastern, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3http://duggmirror.com/
- rhettnyedotorg, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4now i just need 3.5 GB of free drive space to download it and another few gigs to burn it. :(
- nipuL, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2Yes, JeffH you are an Ox Moron
- dkoon, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2Are you guys really that delusional? I have Rainbow Six Vegas, Splinter Cell Double Agent, Company of Heroes, Neverwinter Nights 2, Sam & Max and many more on my desktop. What do you have? Can you just buy the game, put the disc in, 5 clicks then play the game? I spent my paycheck at BestBuy Game department to get entertainment and so what, is there somethign wrong about paying for something you enjoy? CAPABLE GAMING PLATFORM?
- dkoon, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3Damn if this is "SuperGamer" I wonder what they called the average Windows gamers, "SUPER ULTRA UBER GAMER"? Those Poor Linux Kids...
- thecheatah, on 10/12/2007, -8/+0wURDDD!!!!!
- HardwareLust, on 10/12/2007, -17/+4Amazing how fast the real truth gets dugg down around here.
Linux is not for gamers. Never has been. Never will be. (Nor is it for normal people, but that's another show) There just isn't any incentive for developers to develop for *nix. A few dozen pointy-headed linux geeks doth not a viable market make. The only hope they have is emulating The Great Satan...oops, pardon me...Windows, so that maybe they can run some actually entertaining games that aren't from 5 years ago.
And don't you *nix users go feeling all lonely and sad, there's a few hundred thousand Mac users in the exact same boat.
Go ahead, digg me down. You know it's the truth. - martelsc, on 10/12/2007, -17/+2Who need games ?
- Craga89, on 10/12/2007, -22/+5Like most other cool LiveCD's (Koroora anyone?), they're likely breaking a copyright.
