- M4v3rIC, on 10/12/2007, -2/+28He's actually REALLY slow, no avid starcraft player would ever give up the old mouse and keyboard for that.
- VeryAngryJim, on 10/12/2007, -6/+32I won't be thinking WOW about starcraft until they allow you to change the damn resolution.
- rbvmusic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21dammit instead of the crappy generic music why couldn't he use crappy copyright music like the rest of youtube?
- ericcc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21HE'S A WITCH!!!!!
- rm999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Really cool, but it sucks how he has to keep clicking things in the corner. It would be nice if you click on the minerals after clicking the zerg peon guy (forget what they're called) for example.
- stoanhart, on 10/12/2007, -13/+31Yes - it's very wow. Does your jaw also drop when an employee takes your order at a fast food restaurant? Seriously, why are people so impressed by a touch screen. Your finger is the mouse! Oh my God!
This ***** isn't new, and it's probably a hell of a lot more comfortable playing StartCraft with a mouse. - rageguy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15I have a tablet pc, I've already been doing this for ages, and I can right click (the pen has a button on it).
It appears I should of released a video :-) - Tiak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Do you really want to reboot every time you're done playing a game, want to start playing a game, or want to switch games?... Do you want to be doomed to not be able to use ANY other programs while playing a game? My computer is always folding via F@H for one. but then there's other applications like teamspeak that are used in some games.... What if you want to stop playing to check your email every 20 minutes?... And of course what if developers want to use Direct X?
- nixfu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12>what if game developers just started releasing thier games on a bootable DVD
That's called a CONSOLE....or that is also what we used to do with DOS games....every game had a boot disk that would boot dos and go stright to the game, usually using some sort of custom memory loader and take over total control of the system...I remember that the original Decent, Quake/Quake II all did this.
Yes kids, we played MANY games before Windows. - seibz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14im waiting to see someone to use this for counter-strike using the sniper rifle. Ahh just tap the person and their dead
- ganlet, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13i suddently want a touchscreen and a good RTS game.
- spamzor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8That looks painful, this is where multi-touch touchscreens would truely rock! :D
- slythfox, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13Check this out. TouchScreen and XGL on Linux:

- Agret, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Not really, counterstrike works by keeping your mouse positioned in the center of the screen and adjusting the view to your mouse movements away from the center accordingly. If you were to click on someone who wasnt in the middle of the screen you'd just look way over to the side
- GMorgan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Wow Windows supporting a Windows device and a Windows game out of the box. What crazy ***** will those Redmond boys come up with next.
- spooq, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Thats because you are driven by consumer envy ;)
- pyrotherm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Ok, this is just an idea, but after seeing stuff like this run under an open-source OS, it makes this iidea i have had even more feasible
what if game developers just started releasing thier games on a bootable DVD, that would copy game files to your hard drive, update itself automatically, have it's own known-compatible video drivers, etc? - ReinMasamuri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Am I the only person who saw the speed of loading in starcraft kind of... unbelievable?
Is WINE really that much better an win32 apps than windows? O.o - Pharaoh777, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Starcraft DS anyone?
- brohan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7That was a very very slow attempt at a Zerg rush. Still quite cool, If Starcraft2 had tabletop-multi-finger-touch-screen-support I would go insane.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7am i the only one who thought that sucked balls? Imagine hours of playing the game with your arms mid air touching the screen as opposed to resting on a table not resisting gravity.
- Midnightbrewer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I like how the touchscreen XGL guy ends up resorting to the keyboard several times. Good times.

I doubt its fake as linux has had great touch screen support for years - EricAnderton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I noticed that too. Maybe it's emulating the game CD via disk?
Also, the processor SC is running on is likely somewhere between 4 and 8 times faster than the hardware it was designed for. With that in mind, it's kind of neat that it's still playable. - alexrandall, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6It needs bigger screen too. My fat finger will have hard time selecting small units.
- barbobot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3not unbelivable at all, actually, CoV and WoW start up significantly faster under cedega for me
- TheWriteGuy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I'm not into RTSes but if I could rig up a touch screen to one I would definitely be interested. Are there any resources online that explain how one can put together a setup like this? Is this setup unique to Linux?
- EricAnderton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Honestly, I thought the major wow factor here is that the release of Starcraft predates the availability of cheap touchscreens for PC's. Yet it's still playable w/o a mouse - so it's incedentally "forward compatible" with newer input devices.
Think about it: all of the UI elements are big shiny buttons just to make them easier to click, read and identify. It just so happens that on a modestly sized touchscreen, the fingertips of the user aren't too big to hit all of the buttons, characters, etc. on the screen.
Other games would probably need the user to have a stylus to pull this off. - zerg445, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If only he had a bigger monitor...
I want. - BobMysterioso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Descent rocked! No really it did.
It was full 3d - you could fly, upside down, backwards up a mine shaft that was located at the top of a giant room. It was totally different than say Wing Commander 3 - (which was mostly just FMV and a spaceship wandering around in space.) In Descent you were wandering around an enclosed corridor, and the maps were great, and modem deathmatch!
What a good 2 disk demo download for the local BBS that was. - thund3rstruck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2^^ Holy *****.. you're right (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOg_tGIsYGs) is awesome. The video in the original post is nothing special....nice find
- tofuoni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Descent rocked! No really it did."
Sorry for the treadjack, but descent really was cool. Remember dropping cameras in the mine and then switching to the camera display in one of your MFDs? And there were all kinds of kick-ass rockets like heat seaking and command controlled and those flash rockets that blinded everyone. And remember that one bot that would hide from you, I mean, if you were facing where you could see it he would hide, but then when youturned around he would charge.
god, what a ***** awesome game. - larah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2blizzard, make sc2 and we'll all buy it.
- tofuoni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@ TheReport "Imagine hours of playing the game "
hours? Maybe playing starcraft for hours at a time is a bad idea. - modifiedbears, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2lame compared to this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOg_tGIsYGs
- Th3_anOmoLy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Isn't this touch screen setup what the Angry Gernan Kid uses in his video? It'd be great for those times you lose your temper and break your keyboard....
- cfarmer8, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5STARCRAFT! they should just make another expansion not sc2 well maybe sc2 but a expansion would be nice like 2 years ago
- natanbartue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It is impressive, very well
- Astaro, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4The Operating System concept was created because old software did do that, and it SUCKED
- madsmith, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Doesn't that guy ever put on clothes?
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"it is a bitch to do this on linux...."
I can't say how hard a touchscreen is to set up... probably not very. setting up wine and xgl is pretty easy though. - Ewfah, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7That song is from The Sims 2.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Is there a difference that he's using Linux and Wine...or is that just for the fanboy touch?
- farrellj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I used to play Dune 2, the app that really started the RTS genre, on an IBM Touchscreen kiosk that I was doing development work on under OS/2. Lots of fun...a great way to relax after finishing a program module at 3 in the morning at the office...turn up the sound system, and play Dune 2...with Ministry's Psalm 69 turned up way loud. Those were the dayz.....:-)
ttyl
Farrell - mlr263, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Just what I need.... a bunch of pizza smudges on my screen.
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually, Starcraft runs exceptionally well in wine by default (for me at least)
- bluemech, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3OMG A TOUCH SCREEN AND WINE!@!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- lintmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dugg for the awesome background music!
