Skype's new cordless phone runs Linux
linuxdevices.com — Skype today introduced a pair of cordless phones that work without being connected to a computer, via a DECT base station that attaches directly to broadband and POTS lines. One of the two -- the Philips VOIP841 -- uses Linux as its embedded OS.

Even though you submitted earlier, our democratic society like the other one better ;)- HarryBauzonia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2***** off, monkey. The other, later post, says nothing about Linux.
- rickbauls, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Not dupe, the other just says it runs without a pc. this one talks about the os the phone uses.
- samueldockery, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Yay! They included a picture in this article.

- jhub908, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1yeah, but can it run windows??
juuuust kidding - winmac96, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0embedded OS should not interfere with the user interface. I wouldn't want a *Nix hacker doing SSH on my Skype phone and make SkypeOut calls using my account.
I want one, Now! Gotta call Grandma...- sorrodos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Because it will obviously be running an SSH server.
- Grimboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1What use would it have if it didn't?
- winmac96, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0@sorrodos
@Grimboy
SSH between the handset and the base station is OK but should be firewalled beyond the base station towards the ethernet. From there, standard VoIP protocols or the one used by Skype (UDP/IP based) take over. I don't think Skype uses SSH tunneling between host and nodes because SSH is not on my XP and Skype works just fine.
