- streetstealth, on 01/09/2008, -0/+33Wow, a $199 box that actually had a good designer on the team!
The file icon is still a bit dorky, though... - 89vision, on 01/09/2008, -0/+25Dont you think it's a little tacky to bring up your salary on a public internet site?
- Gatesgamer33, on 01/09/2008, -0/+24I hope that this is released soon, it looks slick! Just might become my new mythfrontend... or a kitchen pc
- Peach1200, on 01/09/2008, -2/+20...here are some more pics:

- schnikies79, on 01/09/2008, -0/+16Don't you think he is a little full of *****?
- cthellis, on 01/09/2008, -2/+18I make $110,000 burying idiotic comments on Digg. This will be great for my purposes!
- daliminator, on 01/09/2008, -2/+17SHUTTLE?
CHEAP?!!
What's this world coming to? - wilf_brim, on 01/09/2008, -0/+15OK, I like this. I like this alot. I'm kind of nervous getting into the Linux market, but for $199 (or $99 plus some hardware) I'm probably going to do it. The fact that it is a looker is a bonus. This thing works well, Linux on the desktop is going to get a big leg up.
- blankhorizons, on 01/09/2008, -0/+14No, no you don't.
- schnikies79, on 01/09/2008, -0/+13Looks like it would be great for an HTPC, but why no slot for a drive? I would really like a dvd burner.
- kazamx, on 01/09/2008, -2/+14Thats just what I was thinking. This thing looks really nice. If it has the power I will be installing Xbox Media Center on this baby.
- derrickgossman, on 01/09/2008, -0/+10At $200, I'll pick one up just for the hell of it.
- Aeaus, on 01/09/2008, -1/+10Decent Looking Case is worth paying a $10 premium for.
- GrilledCheeze, on 01/09/2008, -0/+9Anandtech has the specs
http://anandtech.com/weblog/showpost.aspx?i=353
Not far off from the specs that OnipSemaj listed. No optical drive though.
"Celeron 420 (1.6GHz 1MB L2), 512MB RAM, 60GB/80GB HDD (because they can't make up their mind), and the Ubuntu OS. " - Gatesgamer33, on 01/09/2008, -0/+9You don't already have one for your bathroom and garage? WTF?
- martalli, on 01/09/2008, -0/+9I would just be happy to see more "made for linux" boxen...barebones systems like the Pundit, Terminator, or Shuttles are nice since then I could feel more confident system building something for myself that would just work.
- AmusedToDeath, on 01/09/2008, -0/+9I wouldn't even let you touch my calculator.
- 89vision, on 01/09/2008, -0/+8maybe if he was a cobalt programmer
- niallabrown, on 01/09/2008, -1/+9Wow it's quite beautiful.
- psykiv, on 01/09/2008, -0/+8I would gladly pay even $299 for it if I can get it in the design of a Super Mario Question Mark Box.
But seriously, when I first heard about this I was wondering how they would look. All I can say is, I am very impressed. Now where are the specs? - ArthurSucks, on 01/09/2008, -0/+8They're stylish. Slowly Linux is getting a less dorky look. This is awesome.
- vibrokatana, on 01/09/2008, -1/+8The Windows license alone costs as much as this machine, more for vista and that isn't even including hardware. I know of several tasks this could fill easily, and the average informed consumer could do them with little difficulty.
- OnipSemaj, on 01/09/2008, -0/+7I didn't think it was possible to make 110k as a "Perl programmer". Someone was very, very generous to you.
- mondoman89, on 01/09/2008, -0/+7i want some specs, these would make nice home servers.
- craprock, on 01/09/2008, -1/+8That looks great, especially for $200.00! Anyone know if it has a cd/dvd drive though? Some more specs would be nice also.
- OnipSemaj, on 01/09/2008, -2/+9You can build a brand new computer too, for under $200. Here's how:
Go to newegg.com and order the fololowing:
MSI barebones system: $99
80 GB ATA 100 HD: $42
512 MB RAM: $12
Intel single-core Celeron 1.6 GHz CPU (800 MHz FSB): $38
(no cd-rom)
Add it all up, and that's $190. The only this Shuttle is doing is pre-loading Linux, probably by copying images directly to the HD, instead of installing it from a CD/DVD. This is completely feasible. - RetardoCrisp, on 01/09/2008, -0/+6As I said in another thread posted yesterday about this very same topic, I LOVE my Shuttle and have owned 3 in a row now. They are damn well built, have good warranty service, and are so quiet and small. Their PSU's rock as they consistently prove you do not need 1000w to run a Quad core, 4 gigs or ram, several SATA drives, and a high end video card. 400w is ample as it all lies with the rail's amperage. I will scoop one of these Shuttles up in a heartbeat.
- kprobst, on 01/09/2008, -3/+9"Microsoft tainted", that's rich.
- cthellis, on 01/09/2008, -3/+9Well, admittedly we don't know how it's equipped right now, but I can't see how it WOULDN'T be! ;-)
- tgc1, on 01/09/2008, -0/+6Let the era of cheap ubiquitous computing begin.
- derrickgossman, on 01/09/2008, -1/+7Not likely, since nobody's ever heard of koobox.
- vibrokatana, on 01/09/2008, -0/+5Be careful or he will regex your ass.
- TheSpook, on 01/09/2008, -0/+5I'm amazed at how many Diggers care about how it looks. I want balls for buck!
- sasquatchcrotch, on 01/09/2008, -0/+5I don't see it doing much for a family computer, but seems like it could be an awesome choice for some other things; media boxes, home servers..
- firepowered, on 01/09/2008, -1/+6kitchen pc? well, then i need one for my bathroom and garage.
- johnny222, on 01/09/2008, -0/+4Shuttle has always had awesome designers. I use to have one of their boxes and I loved it. I only got rid of it when I was forced because the mobo was too crappy.
- thugok, on 01/09/2008, -0/+4Pretty boxes made Apple billions of dollars. Aren't you paying attention?
- kazamx, on 01/09/2008, -1/+5I agree. It should have a smiling Tux on it.
- EvilDude, on 01/09/2008, -0/+4XBMC port running on this would be nice :)
- carpespasm, on 01/09/2008, -3/+6as is the compact design. Enjoy your beige box mid-tower.
- kazamx, on 01/09/2008, -0/+3bad karma be dammed I am replying to my own post.
If you check the images below you see each different colour has a different image. I really like the other ones. I guess the black one is for the office. - sirhomer, on 01/09/2008, -0/+3Not bad, I made $6.00/hr when I was a bagger for Publix. You should be grateful!
- moschops, on 01/09/2008, -0/+2Does anyone else think the photos look like photoshop? Generic box with pho-sho graphics wrapped around them - the lighting just looks too perfect for a real box - so maybe the "artist" just forgot to draw in a CD-drive, or couldn't figure out how to do that with photoshop...
- inactive, on 01/09/2008, -0/+2Looks like a 3d Render rather then the actual photo of a product.
- jrwr, on 01/09/2008, -0/+2first thing i thought, NASA Put a KFC Computer into space?!
- ScornForSega, on 01/09/2008, -0/+2Sweet! Hello media server/dedicated torrent box.
Now, I just hope the power requirements are low. If the box can consume less than 20w, then I'm sold. - GRTWHT, on 01/09/2008, -0/+2I agree, so far I see a standard XPC, give me some specs and then we'll see if I get excited about this or not.
- psykiv, on 01/09/2008, -0/+2Well, Shuttle is kind of known for their unconventional form factors and case designs. Therefore it should be no surprise that we wanted to know what Shuttle's designers had up their sleeves.
- pHr34kY, on 01/09/2008, -0/+2I'd probably use it as a mythbackend. It looks like a cobalt qube (although probably MUCH more powerful), and would be very trick with a few HDTV tuners and a massive HDD under the hood. If it's quiet, it'd be a great home server to slap in the wardrobe.
