- mbeauchez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Well i, for one, had never heard about it and probably never would have it hadnt been on the frontpage. So thanks to the submitter and and everyone who dugg it to the front page for letting me know about this game!
- boomshakalaka, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15hasn't this been around forever?
- NewChar, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15I feel very dumb reading that very dumb description.
- bradisbest, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Not just a duplicate submission, but a redundant description too.
- tont0r, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11I feel dumb after reading that description.
- JesusFaction, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7this game is really fun on a LAN
- Stuntaneous, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9savage's awesome, it draws heavily on natural selection (http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns/) with the whole strategy+fps.. commanders in charge etc, but its very worthwhile in its own right.

http://projectoffset.com/ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8the linux links on the site do not work. try this: http://tinyurl.com/3xad6g
- ringworm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Savage was a killer game that was ahead of it's time. The main problem I remember about it was how much the success of your side depended on having a competant commander, and those were few and far between.
- ChanKaiShi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6For people who never played this game:
Game is combination of FPS (first person shooter) and RTS (real time strategy). So if you play RTS games for example then this will actually let you play on a field and kill oponents, imagine then sitting at AOE command point and then jump out and join everybody at the warfield. If you are heavy into FPS but missing some intelligency in the game (like leveling off or actually having some goal rather then to run around and kill everything) then this game is for you as well since all your movements actually will be visible to teammates as well as commander with single objective - destroy enemy lair.
There are 2 races in game: beasts and humans. Each of those has their own weapons, buildings, units and technical tree. Game is available for Linux as well as Windows (I beleive MAC version is there as well).
Game is very addictive once you get the idea.
If anybody want to try it make sure you download SFE patch for game as well at http://www.notforidiots.com/sfe - crimoid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I've been playing it for a few years and I can say that it is still wicked fun. It has a really good community, especially if you frequent the more populated servers, and there seems to be more or less constant improvement from community developers. While S2 is clearly focused on Savage 2 the original Savage just keeps getting better and better.
- jockser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4its a cool indy game that won last year a prize the technical achievement i think (im too lazy to look it up)
- HonoredMule, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The game idea is awesome, and I was eager to try it out when I hear about it a month ago...but you can't get online without the latest patch, and the stupid thing just hoses its own installation trying to patch itself. If it works for you, then that's great.
- Lugersan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I bought this game when it came out after playing the beta. I think I still have the box.
I was young and impressionable and the guy who does Ctrl+Alt+Del was in love with it. - bergur1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I heard about it on digg and it was like the only thing I played for weeks. Awesome game.
- Goner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Same here.. and apparently, it's not an uncommon problem in the support forums.. where, I might add, it seems the veterans don't like helping anyone out with some basic patch order instructions.. I mean, damn.. a game that needs two or three patches applied in specific order and so on?
I finally got it to work (windows) by:
-Unzip the savage3t.zip to c:savage
-run the 200e patch and pointing it there
-run the sep-3t++ patch and pointing it there
-apply the SFE community enhancement from 'notforidiots' site
^^IN THAT ORDER^^
without doing that, it would just plain crash... - CasualAffair, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I played this a while back. It was pretty good, but for some reason I had a hard time ever killing anything... ;_;
Seemed that no matter what side I played, the other one was always overpowered. ;] - idntunknwn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3For me, the Linux links did work, they just loaded up as text in Firefox. Right-click->save should work I think
- tranix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Is Project Offset open source? I see lots of people donating to it, but no source code downloads?
- diggems, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4This is an awesome game definitely worth checking out. It can be best described as Warcraft 3 with an army of 31 other people.
- nemoder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The SFE community patch is what most people are playing now, you can also get it standalone or patch your existing game here:
http://www.notforidiots.com/SFE/ - UnleashChaos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Downloading now, looks amazing!
- marsrover21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why does the redundant description comment get dugg, but the originator gets dugg down?
- M4cb0y, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/games/role_strategy/savagethebattlefornewerth.html
- omegacentrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Thank you for that comment. I feel smarter already.
- boomshakalaka, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3that reminds me that i need to go download this again when i get home
- Jammie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I used to play this game at LANs (and still do sometimes). It's a timeless classic in my opinion.
- fuckingusername, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3we can't give the sword of a thousand truths to a newb!
- Icecold54, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Can SFE players play with people on regular Savage servers and vice-versa?
- chris182, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I think it has. I remember trying to play it when it was in Beta (had to have been at least 4 years ago). Had sooo many graphics issues with my card at the time. If they have worked all the kinks out, this seemed like a promising game.
- JRPereira, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually as far as I know the preorder->beta deal is over. You still get the game though, just no instant acceptance into the beta.
I preordered as soon as they had the form up last year, and with luck and according to the clues, the beta might start on Feb 1st. However, Maliken made a pretty bad estimate that the beta would be ready last June so I'm going to just be content and wait.
Savage 1 was one of the best most addictive games I've played, and the only reason I stopped was because of small abusable balance issues and the almost-worse-than-counterstrike community. Savage 2 looks to clean up all of the bugs and issues that were present in Savage 1, so if the community is good, I can see myself playing it for quite some time.
According to the site and some loose forum posts, there was a new video that should've been up on 1up.com yesterday, and S2 is just waiting for 1up to get around to posting it (most certainly before Monday night). - adam.skinner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Savage is awesome. BF2 commander reminded me somewhat of it.
- fantasticFlan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Should be "Awsome linux game is a great game for linux! (also windows versions)"
- alx242, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Maybe you should click the link before you reply (it's not that hard and it helps)...anyways it say "Play today for free".
- renegadeafk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This game looks pretty good, never heard of it until now
- thtroyer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I played it a while back. It isn't a bad game, but I wasn't overly impressed. I did like a lot of the concepts (strategy/FPS combo), but the feel as a FPS just wasn't right.
- UnleashChaos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2hmmm, i apparently can't find the installation exe.... why am I so ***** stupid?
- bayareacoder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Note this game (in full form) is now free. Download instructions are on the linked page.
- OsakaWilson, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Downloaded it, but like always, I can't figure out how to install it.
Someone tell Linux developers that an application is not finished until you can install it. If you can't install it, it is not even ready to be called beta. Why do they do this? - nemoder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1you need SFE to play on SFE servers but SFE works on regular servers too
- unitedstatians, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Experience what everone is talking about, you can download the Savage demo2.
working mirrors here:

or
http://www.3ddownloads.com/Action/Savage/Demos/SavageDemo2Installer.exe - iseebluuue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this game is great, it never gets old and it never costs a dime.
- EbowUK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Too much time on Digg ;)
- Eth4n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Even more exciting is the fact that Savage 2 is almost out. If you preorder you get in on the beta!
- drewskyjones, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hate that feeling...hopefully it will be fleeting...
- httpgeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this game is old blah
- thefirelane, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I remember playing a Mac version... anyone got a link?
- imjustabill, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5I Lost: The Game
- xptweakerntn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2dude, this isn't hard to install in linux, it is really easy.
im not exactly sure how to do it in your distro, but i am using ubuntu
bash (path to file) is what i type, and it installs within a minute, automatically. -
