- badqat, on 01/12/2009, -1/+37Uh, don't you need to actually have some assets to be able to sell them?
- ieee, on 01/12/2009, -0/+33SCO *STILL* isn't dead yet????
- yetAnotherCroc, on 01/12/2009, -0/+26Why wont it just die?
- theghoul, on 01/12/2009, -0/+25Zombie SCO.
Headshot please. - inactive, on 01/12/2009, -1/+24***** off SCO.
- heystoopid, on 01/12/2009, -0/+17Say isn't that a touch illegal , given the amount of court assessed punitive damages of circa two million dollars with interest already awarded against them and payable to Novell , so all they have to do is file an injuction and obtain an attachement proceedings against the up coming auction of corporate assets by SCO .
- netneutrality, on 01/12/2009, -0/+15Somebody please put SCO out of their misery already.
- trafficlight, on 01/12/2009, -0/+14They are just selling off the extra fluff so they can concentrate on their core business: litigation.
- mechnoch, on 01/12/2009, -0/+12Just when we all thought the nightmare was over...
- badqat, on 01/12/2009, -0/+10A license fee of which they have to pass on 95% of the proceeds on to Novell?
Going to take a lot of those...lol... - LemurDaddy, on 01/12/2009, -0/+10I got an email from Darl just today talking about an "Urgent Business Opportunity." Now all I have to do is give him my bank account information, and he's going to make me rich with African Linux Dollars!
- maz2331, on 01/12/2009, -1/+11Can someone make a motion for an involuntary Chapter 7 already? Put this company out of our misery.
- Alphabet, on 01/12/2009, -0/+101. SCO realizes their core business will become worthless once the lawsuit is over
2. SCO tries to sell it before the lawsuit is over to prolong the fight
3. SCO CEOs continue collecting huge salaries
4. Company becomes bankrupt with no value left. Lawsuit ends. Everyone else fights trying to recoup their losses. SCO CEOs walk away with millions in salaries and bonuses. - jasz, on 01/12/2009, -0/+10Suing: easier than actual work.
- t0ny, on 01/12/2009, -0/+10I heard a rumor that the RIAA is going to leave the music business and only sue people.
- LordPhoenyx, on 01/12/2009, -0/+8SCO is like a Zombie... You can't kill it by conventional Means.
- JPamplin, on 01/12/2009, -0/+8To the bitter end, ay? Here's the reasoning, folks:
The management team doesn't REALLY think they're going to win anything substantial. They're using the lawsuit costs to justify liquidating the company early. Otherwise, the shareholders (if there are any left) would vote them out of their jobs.
Which is exactly what should happen. Idiots. - sirbeta, on 01/12/2009, -0/+8I really don't get this. They've lost how many times now? Do they really feel like its a battle they can win? I'm starting to wonder if they're doing this just to get in the news; an attention whore looking for their fix.
- GhostFreeman, on 01/12/2009, -0/+8I bought one for 1 million Zimbabwe dollars.
- Spr0k3t, on 01/12/2009, -0/+7SCO will still sell you a license. That's an asset! Of course, how many licenses have they sold in the last 10 years, 2?
- mmcgrath, on 01/12/2009, -1/+8The thing that gets me about this is someone actually had to make this decision. "Hey, lets start selling off stuff that's sort of valuable so we can stay in this fight." I can only presume that person thinks they are going to win.
/me shakes head - j801, on 01/12/2009, -0/+7SCO lawyers - high fives all around.
- malfourmed, on 01/12/2009, -0/+7SCO: putting the ass into assets.
- olenick, on 01/12/2009, -0/+7This feels like that Monty Python skit where the knight has all his limbs chopped off then keeps prodding the others to come back and fight...
- RayDude, on 01/12/2009, -1/+8MUST *** KICK *** DEAD *** HORSE.
- madrona, on 01/12/2009, -0/+6So this is like cutting off your legs and selling them so you can afford that shiny new bike...
- LemurDaddy, on 01/12/2009, -1/+7Remove the head or destroy the brain. It's the only way.
- t0ny, on 01/12/2009, -0/+5You ether have to kill init or reboot. The only ways of killing a zombie.
- paulieman, on 01/12/2009, -0/+5Even if they could win... They've already lost!
- KibibyteBrain, on 01/12/2009, -0/+5Probably a lot more than they should have. Its sad how effective fearmongering is in industry these days, in even the most absurd cases.
- krc1, on 01/12/2009, -0/+4"SCO will still sell you a license."
Try to buy one as an end user and see what happens. - HonoredMule, on 01/12/2009, -0/+4More like cutting off your legs and selling them to afford a raffle ticket with a .01% chance of winning a shiny new 2001 model bicycle.
Correction (post article reading): Not selling the legs, giving them to a "third party" so the tax collector can't get them after you've already put them up as collateral against the raffle ticket's cost. - pinchduck, on 01/12/2009, -0/+4I really liked the Caldera distro back when it was viable. What these guys have done is a perversion of decency.
- crunchdigg, on 01/12/2009, -0/+4FTA "SCO's path to bankruptcy began" but typo of "when they hired Darl"
- falafelkiosken, on 01/12/2009, -0/+4it's just a flesh wound
- sigmaman2, on 01/13/2009, -0/+3???
That's like selling your small intestine to buy food. Here's hoping the result is the same. - AndrewMoyer, on 01/12/2009, -0/+3I didn't even think to look it up because I was rushing at that moment. Your correction is appreciated.
- mobling, on 01/12/2009, -0/+3Scorched earth policy. That's the way to do it Mr. McBride. Take SCO down to it's knees and finally put a bullet behind it's ear. McBride makes Bernie Maddof look like Santa Claus. How can any company allow one man to completely destroy itself like it has. SCO could have been an excellent partner with Linux, but some felt it was better to just burn the place down instead. I feel sorry for the fine employees that helped develop a first class piece of software. They have been tossed under the bus with no regard. This is truly a sad story in the annals of computer history. I certainly would not want my grandchildren reading about one of my relatives that single handedly destroyed a once great company. Perhaps Darl can get one of those cardboard signs reading "will sue for change...God Bless." Sad sad way to see a company die.
- falafelkiosken, on 01/12/2009, -0/+3does lawyers really count as assets anyway?
- ironclyde, on 01/12/2009, -0/+3How about they just sell their ass instead of assets... seeing how that is what they are about to lose...
- geminus, on 01/12/2009, -0/+3"It was only a flesh wound" - McBride
- Unimatrix0, on 01/12/2009, -0/+3"I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure."
- tinkafoo, on 01/12/2009, -0/+3"I'll sell both my arms just so I can keep punching you in the face!"
That doesn't make much sense there, SCO.. (oh, but keep doing it nonetheless) - GreatSunJester, on 01/12/2009, -0/+2Better than "SCO Group patents sale of assets"
- morouxshi, on 01/12/2009, -0/+2How do you kill that which has no life?
- LemurDaddy, on 01/12/2009, -0/+2Death THROES, Andrew. I know it's not nice or civilized, but I judge you when you use a homonym to create a malapropism.
- nubious, on 01/12/2009, -0/+2"SCO Group proposes sale of assets to continue litgation"
Digg User proposes dictionary of words to support submission spelling correctness. - tsotha, on 01/13/2009, -0/+2I don't think it's illegal, but I wouldn't be surprised if Novell filed a successful petition to put a stop to it.
- TravisOwens, on 01/12/2009, -0/+2Finally, somebody gets it!
